Rolling his eyes good-naturedly, Ian pushed himself vertical and stood in front of Candace.
"We fill in the cracks," he said lightly. "We're the gophers, the ones who do all duties and help when the other divisions need it."

"I guess that's one way to put it," Candace replied with a bit of a shrug. It reminded her of the time Aria said they were 'bottom of the barrel' and that just didn't sit right with Candace, she was determined to work her damn a** off to be rid of that idea that they were just 'fillers'. "But we're more than that. Mist is the most difficult of the divisions because we need to know how to do all of them. Some of us do have our specialties, for example I'm more comfortable with the duties of Sun and Death, while say...Molly is more comfortable with the duties of Life and Moon. I have also been told of a few duties we take care of that..." She made a face. "I'll tell you about them another day. Anyway, we're the survivors. Aria wants us to be able to outlive all the other divisions if we're dropped off on some deserted island and forced to live until a rescue comes, you know? We have to be able to work as one single division if called on while still performing all the duties, and we're also the best for solo missions because we have to train all the different divisions' duties."Candace stretched her arms out in front of her with a little sigh. "We are to be adaptable and resilient, able to handle anything thrown at us. Normally I would take you to the Mist training course but with golems offline, it can't be done. So now I have to decide what to do with youuuu~." Hm. This would be interesting. Should she perhaps make a new course of some kind for them? Get on their asses a little more to do the tasks she had laid out for them? She could always resend those texts she had sent..months ago. "..Let's start with patrolling. I want to learn a little more about you."

He supposed she had a point. Being a Mist didn't necessarily equate to being a grunt; it meant doing the work, doing all the work, picking up where there was slack in the other divisions. And it wasn't necessarily that Ian didn't want to anything, but...
He gave a sigh, reaching up a hand to swipe his fingers through his already messy hair.
"Patrol," he repeated. "Right. All right, show me how to patrol, then." He flashed Candace a winning smile. "And then I'll tell you all about me."

Good boy. Candace smiled and nodded, reaching out to link arms with Ian and then lead him off the training field and toward the beach. They would start there, she'd been hearing things about tentacles. "While yes, we do get quiet time, don't forget you do have work to do, okay? Have you seen whatever's out in the water yet?" She was curious about it herself.

He tried not to show that he was irritated with having to get up, but went along obediently with Candace, letting her pull him off.
"You mean the kraken floating out there?" Ian said dryly. "Yes, I've seen it. Don't suppose the Black Pearl is on it's way here or anything, is it?"

It would be obvious Candace felt no remorse over irritating Ian to make him work oh what a horrible thing for her to do. Though when Ian mentioned a kraken she did look very disappointed. No more swimming or cliff diving...damnit.
"Not as far as I know. But a kraken, huh? Well that's...lovely." She sighed. That sucked. She couldn't even cool off with a dip in the ocean. Perhaps it was for the best, how would she even wash the salt water off? "Hopefully it stays in the water. Last thing we need is Allan rallying us for a tentacle battle and saying the only way to do it is dressed as magical girls in tiny skirts.."
Because let's face it that's something Allan would do.

"Yes, there were...tentacles," said Ian, sliding his hands into the pockets of his pants. "We saw them from our position on the beach and decided that it wasn't quite normal, after all."
Thinking back on that still made him faintly amused. Ian arched a brow.
"I haven't met this 'Allan' person, but he sounds rather...interesting."

"They're not supposed to get so close. But with Excalibur gone...the shields on the island are weak, if we even have any at all right now." Candace sighed. When he mentioned not knowing Allan, Candace chuckled and shook her head. He didn't know Allan yet? That was a feat. "Sun Leader. He's..nice. Very, very energetic. He's also obsessed with anime references, he practically is a walking anime character. He's interesting." That was the best word she could use to describe Allan. He made her somewhat uncomfortable but she could deal with it. "How's Deus been treating you since waking up?" Candace asked as she led Ian on a walk along the length of the beach, glancing toward the water every now and then.

Ian turned his head to look at Candace. "Excalibur? Is that what this is all about? The lost sword of Merlin?"
He was, for the most part, entirely unfamiliar with the goings on at Deus as of late, although he'd heard about the deaths of the two women. But while he was familiar with the legend of Merlin, the rest of the story up til now remained mostly dark.
Bypassing the Allan comments, which Ian stored away for later, Ian gave Candace a casual smile. "It's...been interesting," he conceded. "Certainly not what I expected, but the company...seems to be all right."

Candace frowned. Was that all Ian knew Excalibur as? He must not have had a chance to be taken down there before everything went to s**t. "He was more than that. The sword Excalibur and the staff Merlin were the very power source of this island. They together provided shields and runic power to the island.." So yes, Ian. It was a big deal. "I'm glad the company is treating you well, and it's unfortunate you came in right before..well...this. At least you got a chance to see what it's like when things are going find." Candace began to climb up a path lined by tree stumps that had once been trees but now seemed to be recently hacked down. She thought nothing of them, simply following the path and occasionally pausing when she heard a noise. "Did anyone ever tell you why this island was covered in fog?"

Ian flashed a look to Candace that clearly indicated he had had little idea of the actual importance behind Merlin and Excalibur - but now that he did, the reasoning behind everything suddenly made a helluva lot more sense than it had before.
"Yes, well..." said Ian, kicking a bit of dirt as he walked, casting a sideways glance at her. "No, why? What's the fog got to do with anything, I just figured it was a little bit muggy here."

"The fog was, basically, a visual form of Insanity. Were you able to get that lecture before everything went down?" Please say yes. "With it gone...yes, it's great that the sun is out, I did miss being able to go out and just lay in the sun, and yeah now we can farm which is great because we have no power in our kitchens, but if the fog isn't here...where did it go?" It was a somewhat rhetorical question. If the fog wasn't on the island it wasn't just gone forever, it had moved somewhere else. And Candace had seen first hand what happened if normal humans were exposed... "So, training." He needed it, apparently. "Aria wants me to give everyone lockpicking lessons. And I think you and I should spar sometime so I can see what I need to do for you personally.." And then there was a group training she wanted to do. Ugh, this would be so much easier with the training courses still working. Maybe she could enlist in some help in making new ones until everything was fixed.

Ian opened his mouth, and then promptly shut it again.
"Um, yes, I think I did," he said, which wasn't entirely true, but he wasn't about to sit here and listen to a long and probably boring lecture on it (not that Candace herself was boring, but he had the feeling the subject matter was).
"Ah, yes, training," Ian said with a small sigh. "Sparring works for me, though I must admit I suck. Lockpicking sounds interesting, though.'
Interesting and not as much effort as fighting.
