A great peal of laughter resounded in the teen's head, something loud and raucous and close to a hoot as it echoed between her ears. { Oh pumpkin, he doesn't know how young you are. I'd not tell 'im if I'ere you. } The girl looked back down at her feet, not entirely sure how to respond. Part of her wanted to snap that he didn't even know how old she was, that he could be completely off base! But if she said that, then he might ask her exactly how old she was and if his reaction had been cold before it would be even worse now. No, no, Abbi thought as she nodded in a most understanding manner, it was best to just keep her mouth mostly shut. { Also, I'd forget mentioning the selfish bit. } "I am not selfish!" A gasp immediately followed the remark as Abbi had yet to fully master speaking in her head to Viveca. A brighter blush than before graced her face and she jumped. "I-I mean I probably a-am really... Awfully selfish... I-I uh... I was... V-Viveca... Um..."
Not really sure how to salvage her little slip up of speech, Abbi was quick to latch onto what Ripley's reasoning was. At first, a rather worried expression crossed her face when he said he lost everything. A hand flexed off the shower caddy first to reach out to touch his shoulder, but flinched away before it was even half the distance there and instead curled over her chest. When he didn't stop talking, she was patient and waited, but a moment later her expression lost its concern. Revenge was... Something very different from loosing everything, but it was also something the teen could understand. It made sense, especially considering how she had lost something important too. For her, revenge had been buried through the years, but it wasn't something awful. With a steady look Abbi tilted her head up to meet the man's gaze. "Revenge isn't bad. If what took everything from you is the same thing that takes from other people... Revenge is perfectly acceptable."
It felt odd to do it, but Abbi gave him a small smile anyways. "I think, even if you didn't ask for my opinion, that revenge is just as good a reason as any. These creatures are nasty and terrible, they are mean and cruel and don't deserve any kindness. Revenge is a kindness to them. And at least you're fighting for the good side." And though it felt terribly forward and wrong, even if Viveca hissed that she should she should she should, Abbi detached the hand over her heart to stretch out so that it reached out, with the help of some tip toe action, over the top of Ripley's head. And in a quick motion she patted the top of his head before retracted the hand back, feeling rather proud of herself as she grinned up at him.

Ripley's eyes widened at the sudden noise from her, startling almost like he had when she first yelled at him. He had a good idea about how old she was, at least a decent ball park, but even as the words left his mouth he was pretty sure he sounded really weird. Especially since the age gap between them wasn't as large as his reactions suggested.
"Er..." Her outburst caught him off guard, mostly because it was a one-eighty to her giggles before. The tone change was so drastic he had to wonder if there was something wrong with her.
< Or maybe it's the Weird-talker~ > Wilhelm offered helpfully, if not bored, as though the answer should have been obvious to anyone. Once it was said it clicked, and he gave Abbi a slightly sympathetic look. "Well, if you are selfish, you certainly are good at hiding it." It was his compromise, as awkwardly as it was delivered.
Then, in a few sentences, she made him feel better. His more-than-selfish desire to crush the one who had taken his life from him seemed justified and okay, and anything else was well worth it. The surprise on his features melted into an honest smile, however small it was. He didn't realize what it was she was doing until it was already happening, and the to-him sudden head pat brought a relieved, if not terribly amused, chuckle to his lips.
"Thank you, Abbi. I appreciate it." His head tilted for a moment, looking down at her through his glasses, which by this point had slipped a little further down the bridge of his nose.
"It's Bryce, by the way." Ripley explained suddenly, realizing he hadn't yet. "My middle name."

Since it was rather difficult to look at something inside one's own head, the teen's eyes tended to veer off in random directions when Viveca spoke and that meant that she missed Ripley's rather startled reaction. It even meant that she didn't quite catch how weird his sentence had been for she was much too busy trying to turn down the volume of Viveca's laughter. What finally did bring her back around to paying attention the Real Live Man in front of her was the look she caught him giving her, something nice but pitying. Still sore from his earlier shut down, Abbi turned toward him with the beginnings of a pout only to realize he was honestly being sincere. "Uhhh... Thanks? I mean... Its not really a good thing for someone to... Yanno... But totally selfish and hide it." She shrugs it off, but a hand still moves up to twirl the end of one pigtail. Even if it was awful for someone to hide their faults, it was really nice of him to try and make it something good anyways. With a smile she tried to twist from forming, Abbi looked back down at her shoes. The gratitude he extended to her, however, erased all possibility of her not smiling so that she gave him a mildly bashful, but altogether thankful smile. Awwww, he was kind of cute when he looked down through his glasses and smiled like that... "Oh?" Who was Bryce? She thought his name was Wilhelm-Stick-in-the-Mud. "OH! Oh Bryce! Oh ok!" Abbi laughed at herself, a sudden and silly thing as she realized what exactly he meant. After she stopped giggling she nodded once with a smile and tilted her head to the left side to think. "Ripley Bryce Crowell. That's crazy fancy. Wow. I am impressed!" An odd, bright laugh bubbles up and out of her and Abbi can't quite wrap her head around the feeling. Its excitement and bashfulness and something else but she feels like jumping up and down and running in circles yet she only stands there and tries not to look too dopey instead. If this is what having friends is like, she's never letting Ripley go.

"I don't think it's that fancy...but if you insist." A little smile twitched it's way onto his lips. He never really gave his name a lot of thought, but this was twice now that Abbi was commending him for having a spectacular name. Oddly enough, he never imagined that would be something he'd get complimented on. He wanted to return the favour, but telling her she had a cute name might not sound as sincere since she started it, and he felt too weird to tell her that she herself was cute. Not just cute of course, but it was the first thing that came to mind. All he had left to compliment was the unusual colour of her hair, and that didn't seem appropriate.
Then again, he never had been the type to compliment for no good reason, so his eventual decision to leave it alone made him feel a little better, though he couldn't explain why.
"And I think, under the circumstances, you can use it when you're mad at me...once." He added, pushing his glasses back up his nose and offering her an almost sheepish little smile. Since he had upset her, he felt it was only right to give her this one little thing, though she deserved much more than that. His little smile remained as his gaze trailed down, realizing perhaps for the first time that she was holding something.
"...You were heading to the showers, right? Before I scared you?"

Oh, his name was totally fancy. Awesome writers had names like that, fantastic historians gave their children those kinds of names, and given his appearance that indicated he was a bit older than she, Abbi wondered what he had done in his life before coming here. That was a curiosity she almost asked after, but did not quite get around to it. Somehow his smile, however small, distracted her and she found herself mimicking one, trying to think if this was how most people interacted. In the movies they didn't talk sometimes and just smiled at each other, but that was a movie and this was real life and was it ok for her to ask more questions about him? Before she is given the chance she drops the smile to blink at him, considering his offer. For a moment she screws her mouth up in thought that twists itself into a smile before she looks back at him, shoulders pulled up in a hint of teasing innocence. "I think I'd like to save my 'Use of Full Name Token' for some other time. Since I'm not mad at you now and all." She cannot help the cheeky smile that curls her mouth or the way she tilts her chin down to better look up at him through her lashes. A note of surprised breaks the hopefully cute expression and she pulls her shower caddy up to hold at stomach level. "Yeah! I was! I am! I uh... I think I still smell like my Crazy Cold Chamber, so I think I'll wash my hair. Then a nap... This first day business is... Whoo. Its tough." If she thought about it, she would find she was terribly tired, that her joints ached and her head still felt fuzzy with Viveca living in it now. But she has taken up enough of Ripley's time today and sticks her out back out to shake his once more. "It was really nice meeting you Ripley Crowell! And Wilhelm too! Hope I see you around sometime. Good luck cracking the lock into your own room!" Once more a smile came back, bright and chipper and full of too much hope for such a place. After a hearty and rather forceful shake, Abbi turned down the hall to skitter off, hurrying to take what little left of the daylight she could before the darkness made daily tasks impossible in the dorm building. Before she disappeared into the bathroom she turned and gave him one last energetic wave, ducking into the room a moment later to squeal and jump around in her excitement over making a friend of a Real Live Man who was actually really nice.
