Otto's eyes narrowed at the ground as he felt Ripley hold back some sassy joke. As for what he said next, Otto just grimly nodded. "Right.. I shoulda expected as much." He grumbled softly.

"Well.. whatever. Ain't my problem no more." He'd not seen his family in over two years. It certainly wasn't something he ought to fuss over.

"SO.. yer sword is stuck in a ********' scarecrow." Otto pointedly shoved the topic aside in favour of poking fun at the older boy. "Good job, rookie."

Ripley only smiled, keeping a particular snark to himself, at least for now. The conversation was so blatantly changed he had to laugh, but he did roll his eyes back towards the training dummy and Wilhelm.

"Ah. Yes. That." He drifted closer, standing beside the trapped weapon with both hands on his hips. "--is my current problem." A very pointed look was given towards Otto, coupled with an exasperated roll of his eyes. "You're not gonna get under my skin with that, kid. It's not my fault the system is flawed." Lips pressed together in an unimpressed line, but his gloved hand gripped the hilt anyway, once more trying to put his weight into freeing the very stuck blade.

"Who in their right mind gives a sword as a weapon to someone with zero training? Flawed." One heave. Two. Nothing. Wilhelm remained stuck, and was a forever unimpressed presence in his head.

"What did you get saddled with? A megaphone to announce your woes to the world?"

Otto watched quietly as Ripley tried repeatedly to free his weapon, giving the trainee an unimpressed expression soon after. "Just de-summon your weapon back into a totem. Then summon it again."

This was said with the upmost sass. 100% level sass.

He made no attempt to explain the system any, seeing as Deus had a habit of throwing trainees into shark infested waters without the courtesy to teach them to swim. "No." He replied blandly, raising his hand and summoning Tenya, all six feet of her jagged and pointy boomerang glory.

"Have you tried turning it off and back on?" Ripley muttered not quite under his breath, clearly returning a bit of the sass. Honestly, that wasn't something he had thought about doing, and now that he was thinking about it... "I don't know how." He admitted grudgingly, looking mighty unimpressed until Otto summoned his own weapon. Then all he could do was stare in surprise.

"Whoa! ...What the s**t is that thing? A boomerang?" That can't be a boomerang. Boomerangs didn't get that big because of physics or something. "How the hell do you even use that...it's bigger than you!"

"Same way you summoned it, dingbat. I thought you were supposed to be smart or sumthin." He huffed haughtily.

Oh well. Might as well teach him a thing or two anyway. Since he seemed so baffled on how weapons worked, Otto demonstrated by twirling Tenya over his head several times before launching it at the dummy containing Ripley's weapon. You know, to help jar it loose.

"It's less about me being too small and more about the Fear bond between me and Tenya. Though a few trips to the gym help.."

"...I summoned it from a tablet in that weird weapons room. I don't think it's been anything but a sword since." Ripley huffed, ignoring the dig. Honestly, he didn't really know he could unsummon it, really. He'd been hiding it in his long-a** coat since he had yet to see anyone else with their weapons out. It made sense why, now.

"...! Holy s**t!" He ducked as the weapon flew past him as if it were nothing, smashing into the dummy and knocking free the black and white sword. Wilhelm clattered to the ground with a noise of protest, but Ripley ignored him in favour of staring in awe. That scrawny little crybaby just hefted a six foot boomerang over his head and tossed it like it was nothing.

"F-fear bond?" Ripley had a lot to learn. He hadn't felt this stupid in...well, never. He had never felt this stupid before. Not in his entire life.

"It's not hard man. You don't even gotta think about it, you just.. feel it." Was Ripley really that terrible with his sixth sense? Otto got it the first day he was in the Cove. "Wait so you mean to tell me you been carting around that sword all this time?" Otto almost found it funny, but he was still really depressed inside. He could only huff with a scoff.

Otto caught Tenya as she came reeling back, the force of it making him skid back an inch or so. He de-summoned her, giving Ripley an exasperated look. "Fear bond. You know this place has a library, right? Do some ********' research. Or were ya thinking you'd just pick it all up in a goddamn class?"

The teen started to stroll up to the other man, a tired look on his face. "Fear is an energy source. It's what your weapon's previous form ran on. The bond you share with your weapon grows the more you use them. It's why some guys here can heft around ********' six foot axes or hammers n stuff like they're made of paper mache."

"Don't get smart with me, kid. I haven't even been awake for twenty-four hours. I barely know where my room is, let alone that this place has a library." Ripley frowned at the younger man, but it was a short lived one at best. "So yes, I am learning things as it comes. It's not like they thought ahead enough to, you know, actually prepare their soldiers." That was essentially what he considered himself, with the way things had gone down.

< I could have told you that. >

But you didn't. Good job, now I feel like an a**.

< You never asked. >

I didn't know I had to.

< Surpriiiise....? >

"I suppose that's why Wilhelm feels lighter than I expected?" He guessed, kneeling down to pick up his fallen blade. He looked at it for a moment, turning the black and white hilt over between his hands, looking down at the horse headed pommel. All he had to do was feel it, huh? He wasn't sure he didn't know how to stop thinking, but he did know how to feel things...if he tried.

< I think you're incapable of clearing your mind too, if that helps. >

It doesn't.

< Well, I tried. >

Shut up Wilhelm, you're not helping.

The Trainee closed his eyes and let out a slow breath. Wilhelm began to glow, and in a flash disappeared; in his place was a beautiful onyx and silver wrist watch, held securely in his gloved hand.

"...Whoa." Seriously, what else did you say to that? "...I wasn't imagining that, right? This is a thing?" He held up the watch, and then laid it down on his left wrist.

"Geez yer so new yer shiny." Otto teased with a flat expression. And flat tone. "Prepare us... yeaaah no. Trainees are battle front fodder. If you survive that, you get to rank up." And learn along the way.

Otto slow clapped once Ripley actually got the hang of de-summoning the weapon. "That is a thing. Good job, bucko. You ain't as inept as I thought."

Ripley paused for a moment in an attempt to digest this new information.

"Well. That's depressing." So he was being thrown into a life-or-death situation with no warning or training. "This system is flawed." He murmured again, looking at the wrist watch in his hand. So he had to survive, somehow. It meant he should probably put more focus into wielding Wilhelm, and go to this mysterious library to read up on what he could. Perhaps get in touch with more people like Otto for their suggestions, hints and stories.

It was going to be incredibly difficult, but since when was life easy?

The golf clap pulled him from his thoughts, and he stared at Otto as if noticing him for the first time. "Not just another pretty face." Ripley cracked a grin, and then set to putting the watch on properly. "I'll make it work. Got any suggestions for a new kid?"

"Uuuuuuh..." Otto stared at him blankly, trying to come up with something for the former acquaintance. "Don't die."

Sound advice.

"N' don't piss off Caelius. You'll know who I mean eventually. He's the Death lead, and he's ********' psycho."
PostPosted: Sun Sep 15, 2013 1:35 pm

"Helpful, thank you." Ripley sounded as sincere as he could manage, but betrayed it entirely by a very blatant, obvious roll of his eyes. The only actual piece of advice that seemed solid was his next comment, and Ripley mentally stored the name Caelius away. Death division was mentioned though, and it reminded him that this supposedly terrible lead was his own; more than that though, he found himself gazing at the emblem on Otto's extravagant (and orange) jacket.

"So we both have to suffer with him then." He noted. How odd that they would both end up in the Death Division; the thought made Ripley grin, and to stifle a chuckle. "I take it you know from experience, then? You always were pretty mouthy to your superiors." Namely just his Father, but that counted.

Oh boy. He was in Death too. Otto refrained for groaning for now. He gave Ripley a glare from under his brows before rolling his eyes with a scoff.

"Yeah well.. you're right." Being mouthy was always what got him into trouble. "I mouthed off and almost got killed. And it weren't cause he was showin' mercy that I ain't dead. I just got lucky."
PostPosted: Sat Sep 21, 2013 11:37 am

Ripley met Otto's glare with a rather impassive stare. Well, at least the information was good to know, but he imagined he'd have to take it with a grain of salt; between the two of them, Ripley could handle authority a lot more. If all he had to do was keep off the radar, well...he could do that easily.

"Well, thanks for the heads up." He conceded that at least. "So, anyway, you came out here to train?"

"yeah, pretty much." Otto mumbled, "But I don't really feel like it no more." He almsot seemed like he was sulking, dragging his feet as if he was going to head out.

"I dunno bout you, but after finding out my parents ain't my real parents, I'm not really feelin' the training thing."
