Tugging he was used to, vigorous shakings he was not. The wolpertinger did let out a bit of an odd noise at it, something between a growl and a grunt of displeasure. Jove was always surprising him with new types of scrapping skills, it seemed, and this time was to not be an exception. He found it actually hard to want to keep ahold of the other boils ear at this point, tempted to let go and lung for a fluff covered throat instead, anything to get him to stop. And then as suddenly as it started, it stopped. And then Jove tried to get away, and Mathias hung on for dear life, wishing he could chuckle when the fluffy puppy instead flopped to his side, and took that opportunity to attempt to pounce on top of him, finally relinquishing his hold on the other boils ear when he did so. He was so ready to just scuffle in the dirt for a bit, his wings flapping at Joves little puppy face in an effort to blind or otherwise distract him.

Jove snapped his teeth at the feathers in his face, not really trying too hard as much as just enjoying the game. He knew feathers were more important than they looked, if they were damaged or pulled out it could really mess up one's ability to fly. And Jove knew flight was pretty fun. Instead he kicked out with his back legs, at the same time he shoved up with his front paws. And a half dozen little invisible tendrils. Maybe if he was lucky, he could send Mathias for a short flight!

Matty might have worried more for the teeth gnashing at his wings if he could indeed fly, but as he couldn't it didn't bother him too much to have those pointy little teeth just millimeters away from doing some debilitating damage. Growling low in his throat, a sound that was somehow equal parts playful and aggressive, he attempted to dart in for a quick n** at Jove's incredibly fluffy neck. .....Only to find that apparently he could fly, just not in the conventional way. Feet that were kicked into his stomach combined with invisible ghosty tendrils did the trick, and for a brief moment the wolpertinger was air born, and feeling mildly startled by this realization, flapped his wings rapidly in an attempt to at least soften his fall. It didn't exactly work. At all. He just ended up collapsing in a heap of feathers and fluff and twitching ears, his eyes closed. With a small groan, he rolled over onto his side and just...laid there. Taking on a third year, even in natural form, had been a terrible mistake.

Oh... Oh that might have been a bit too much. The little foxfire's enthusiasm seemed to plummet right back down to normal Jove levels, and he trotted over with an expression of concern in his big, glowing eyes.
The little ghost had never been a strong creature. His first memories involved running scared, the feeling of dread hovering behind him, closing in right on his heels, like jaws ready to snap. He had been small. He had been powerless, defenceless. And even though he had learned to puff up and give it his best effort, the strength he had earned could still catch him off guard. Like this particular instance.
He trotted a worried circle around his friend, and then reached out with several ghostly tendrils to give Mathias a gentle shake. Ears briefly flicked forward as though hoping for a positive reaction. The mighty predator standing over his victim, all the while hoping his victim would get up.

Jove would find himself trotting in circles around a very limp and altogether lifeless looking form. Mathias was still just lying on his side, his ears flopped over, one wing stretched out. He wasn't moving. In fact..he didn't even really look like he was breathing. Jove's attempts at shaking him would only make his ears flop back and forth, everything just flopping around completely limp. And then suddenly red eyes flew open, and with a growl and a flare of wings he sprung at his predatory assailant. Ding ding, round two!

Nooo, get up, get up, the little shakes said. Jove hovered closer, head tilting in concern, but when Mathias leapt to his feet it was like setting off a chain reaction. The little ghost bounced backwards, and then took off like a fluffy bolt through the long grass. He moved fast for one with such stubby legs, and zig-zagged in a perfectly erratic wisp manner. If Matty wanted to fight him, he would have to catch him first!

How did something that looked like it was not at all built for speed with such tiny little legs move so damned fast? Was it really just a ghost thing? Mathias let out another growl, this time in frustration, as he took off after the other boil, back legs hitting the ground with force and springing him forward in a speed that might not have matched the ghosts but came damn close. Zigging and zagging wasn't difficult for one with a mostly rabbit form, his clawed toes digging into dirt and kicking up dust and grass as he chased after him. If only he could fly. If only he could fly he would have soared overhead and dived down from above. He began to stretch his wings, as though experimentally, because maybe today. Maybe today he would be strong enough.... But no, he knew that it wasn't true yet. He was still too small, his wings still too underdeveloped, with a chance that they never would be ready to lift him into the air. So he did it the old fashioned way, red eyes fixated on his target, and when he thought he had a chance, he jumped, and tried to catch any part of Jove he could grab with clawed front paws.... ...And promptly nose dived for the second time that day, rolling head over tail, back to his feet, and back to chasing, though now Jove was further ahead then ever, leaving a lot of ground between them to make up. Despite that, if he could smile in this form, he would have.

The thump thump of large rabbit feet behind him spurred Jove onwards, in a feat he wouldn't have been able to manage in his first year. Being chased would send him into a fit of sheer panic, but now it was excitement that pushed him forward. Perhaps because Mathias was his own size, the chase was fun instead of frightful. Since his own steps were light and ghostlike, leaving barely a trace on the vegetation they ran through, he was unaware they were stirring up such a mess until the sound of footsteps disappeared behind him and he veered around in a wide circle. He could see traces of dust settling. And as he zoomed towards the sight at full speed... He had suddenly realized it was a bit too fast. Instead of running into the wolpertinger, Jove was mid-leap when his little legs clipped his friend's back. And then it was his turn to roll and tumble, his fluffy body bouncing rather comically off into the long grass.

Mathias had barely had time to stir from where he lay in the dirt, eager to get back on his feet and to be off again to try and make up the distance between he and Jove, when he felt something light clip him in the back. Light...but with enough force to drive him back down into the ground with a grunting noise, his eyelids squeezing shut. Pushing himself back to his feet a second time, he whirled in place, looking for his ghostly assailant. He could only assume that Jove had come back to purposefully knock him back into the dirt after he had first tripped and fallen, and when he looked all he could really see was a path of destruction through the long grass, leading to a pup lying at it's end. Mathias's eyes narrowed, watching the fluffy ghost carefully as he hopped towards him. Was this a ruse? Some kind of trick to throw him off? After all, Mathias himself had already done similar..... He made a low growling noise in the back of his throat. A questioning sound, as though asking him either what he was doing, or if they were finished orrr....???

There was a moment of flailing, little nubby paws waving in the air before Jove righted himself, and turned to face his friend. His fur was covered in grass and debris at first, but one good shake had the little foxfire looking as clean and fluffy as ever. Clearly his violent tumble hadn't done him any harm! He dropped into a ready-to-play puppy stance, as he watched his friend, and although the zooms had left him for now he was still ready to play... Until he realized they had launched into their mock-fighting without so much as a word exchanged first. Fluffy behind fell to the ground thoughtfully, and the pup's head tilted. Had it even been coincidence they ran into each other? After all the weirdness they had experienced as shadows, maybe Mathias' initial headbutt was trying to tell him something. But... Jove couldn't figure it out, if it wasn't an invitation to fight.

Dirt and grass and debris when flying, some of it hitting Mathias in the face, his eyes squinting against it and his head lowering slightly, a hiss escaping the back of his throat. It was at least reassuring to see that Jove was able to get up and resume a playful stance, clearly capable of continuing their little chase and tumble in the dirt, a sure sign that whatever had happened, he was fine. But then the other boil sat and cocked his head to the side. Were they finished, then? That was disappointing, really, but Mathias also relaxed, keeping a wary eye on Jove before sitting down as well, body lowering to the ground. He couldn't even really remember why they had started all of this.... Oh right, the headbutting! But that had all been in good intent. It was Jove who had perhaps misconstrued it and turned it into a fight, a fact Mathias would need to remember for future. Eyes narrowed and ears swiveling, a silence began to stretch between them. In this form, Mathias was incapable of speech or very animate facial expressions, or even using gestures, really. He could change back, but he had left his clothes further away..... ....And then suddenly a grasshopper jumped onto the scene, right inbetween them both, and Mathias instinctively made a move to pounce on it, because food.

Fluffy ears perked at the sight of his long-legged little foe, big round eyes widened even further. All curiosity towards his friend's intentions disappeared in an instant and there was only that little green creature in front of him. And with all the effort he could muster, Jove lunged towards the grasshopper.
The thought might not have occurred to him as he conked his head mightily against that of the little wolpertinger, but... whether they were shadow figures or real boils, Jove was glad to have someone his own size to play with. And maybe to share a nice cold compress with later.

The last thing the wolpertinger had been expecting was for Jove's fluffy little head to slam into his own, his teeth clacking shut on nothing but air, giving the grasshopper ample opportunity to nonchalantly hop away from them both, as though completely unaware of it's near-doom. Mathias himself was only lucky he had his horns, and a thick skull to go with it. While Jove was the stronger of the two, headbutting was just something that wolpertingers of all ages did, and while it smarted, he was able to shake it off, backing up while giving Jove a deadpan stare. Though there was just something about his friend that he could not remain angry with, and the expression quickly faded. If he could have laughed in this form, he likely would have, as well as taking the time to rub at the sore spot at the center of his forehead. As it was, he could only twitch his nose, and let out another questioning growl, before giving his head a small shake and turning to hop away, sniffing at the air as he attempted to locate where he had left his clothing along with his skull pin, so he could shift back to student form.

Jove snorted in reply, taking a small wobbly step before sitting and pawing at his head as though he were giving it a rub. It didn't hurt that much, not with all his fluff, but it sure seemed to rattle his brain around! But at least it looked like the other boil was okay.
He snorted again, this time with almost a tinge of humour. They really were pretty similar, weren't they.
When Mathias raised his nose to the air, Jove wondered if he was back on the scent of that grasshopper. He gamely bounced along behind, taking a long sniff himself, but then his ears perked, and swivelled around. It was starting to become more active on the field, and it reminded him he had obligations... Things he had to do. He had played too long, and it had been fun, but he had to go...
With a regretful bark of apology, the pup turned and headed the other way.
