Adonis expected energy draining to be simple. Elegant. Maybe even nearly indiscernible.
He expected Vespa to remain behind the trash cans, to whisper instructions to him while the girl talked. He expected Vespa to emerge, to explain away his presence there, to brush her hair from her face and drain a little energy in the process. He expected Vespa to walk away and expect him to follow suit, and the two would depart while leaving the girl a little more tired than she was ten minutes ago. However, he did not expect Vespa to seize the poor girl, startling her in an unconscionable show of force, and then scream for him to somehow diffuse the situation.
How the hell was he supposed to do that??
The urgency to act made itself apparent - Adonis stood abruptly and crossed the few feet toward the girl, and clapped a hand over her mouth. It muted her screaming at least, but it wouldn't buy them much time. "What are you doing?!" He whispered urgently, ivory gaze immediately shifting to his blonde companion. "Is this really how we're taught to drain energy? Harassing people like this?" His tone was not scathing, but incredulous. For a faction poised to protect the people of Earth, this didn't look much like protection.
No, from a distance, this looked like rape. And that was a situation he desperately wanted to avoid - especially for the Negaverse's sake. "Other people can still see us from here - we have to move." With a quick tug, he urged Vespa further down the alley. If they could just manage a little more distance...
But the sudden, burning pain in his hand coaxed a yelp out of him, and he immediately retracted his grasp on her mouth. The girl resumed her desperate screams, and the people around them were beginning to search for the sound. "s**t..." He cursed softly, both holding his hand by the wrist and searching desperately for some simple solution to the exponentially growing problem.
But the only resolution that came to mind was to hurt her.
Still, he didn't have any time to consider other options. He knew how terrible it would look - hell, he knew how terrible it would feel, too - but something had to be done before the two were arrested for crimes they'd never think of committing. On top of that, how would it look for the Negaverse? The one organization that took a chance on his sense of morals and gave him the opportunity to make a difference here? He already saw all the carnage this war wrought - wouldn't they expect better of him than to assault civilians for seemingly no reason?
And despite all this, he landed a succinct blow to her stomach. Her body provided little resistance, which surprised him, and he did not receive the radiating pain in his knuckles that he expected. Instead, the screaming stopped, and no one bustled onto the scene with guns raised and handcuffs at the ready.

"W... what am I doing? I'm doing my job! Or trying to!" Vespa exclaimed, grateful that Adonis managed to silence her but it didn't calm his nerves in the least. She was scared, really scared, and now, so was he! At Adonis' harsh words, the Senshi of Wasps immediately took offense, before confessing in a pathetic tone. "Look, no one had time or care to teach me to do it, so I had to learn by myself. And this was how I learned... no one WANTS to give up their energy!"
He didn't argue with Adonis and instead allowed him to take the lead, despite him being considered the more experienced senshi. Vespa didn't like to lead. He never wanted to leave. He never wanted that kind of responsibility, and this situation on confirmed it in his mind that he could never be a leader or mentor. He fought against his shame as he followed Adonis' lead, his already shot nerves working him into overtime as he looked like a chihuahua during a thunderstorm as he turned to look at Adonis when he gave a yelp. "What happened? Are you alright?"
Vespa just stood there and watched when Adonis slammed a fist into her stomach, and as horrified as he was to see him strike her, he couldn't deny the relief he felt when she finally stopped screaming. He rung his hands together, looking further down the alleyway and not seeing anyone immediately making their way down towards them, which in and of itself caused a flurry of conflicting emotions. No one heard her? Not a cop, or civilian... not even a Senshi or Knight of the White Moon? It was... disheartening, to say the least, that no one had come to this girl's rescue, and that only made him feel worse about all of this.
"Uh, look, Adonis, I'm sorry..." Vespa said, drawing a step closer to his fellow officer and hanging his head low, his shame clear to see despite his effort to hide it. "I guess I just sort of got spooked. I'm not good with this... at all! I've let you down..."

"No s**t you let me down," he muttered under his breath. However, Adonis didn't want to treat his comrade in such a reproachful tone. What good would it do to make the boy feel worse? He already held a limp girl in his arms, who only silenced through the very violence she feared.
He needed to rectify the situation, and he sought to do so in the only way he knew how: sweet talking his blonde companion. "Hey now, don't apologize, babe. You tried, didn't you? And you're gonna keep trying for the good of the Negaverse, yeah? So the first thing we gotta do is make sure this girl's comfortable for when she wakes up, and then we gotta split, alright?" It felt like talking to a child somewhat, and maybe it was, but this felt... A little easier to stomach than simply berating the boy, or staring at the sight in horror of his own actions.
Easier is good. Everyone likes easier.
"Hey, hold her steady, I'll figure out something for her to sleep on..." A quick survey of the alley informed him that there was still a slip of rug further down, where a vagrant might've made his home during the frigid night before. However, with no one else around, he found little reason to pass it up as a place for her to sleep for a while. He trotted down the alley and caught the frayed corner of the blanket between his fingers, and dragged the stiff material back toward Vespa. "Just lay her down on this; she should wake up alright."
And hopefully she'd avoid calling the cops about the whole endeavor. She'd seen both their faces, no doubt, and could place them easily if she ever found them. It called his attention to one of his superiors mentioning a glimmer, or a glamour, or something of the sort - did it truly prevent others from recognizing him as Adrian? Or recognizing Adrian as his alter-ego Adonis? Perhaps this would be a true testament to the power of that force, and whether it truly existed.
At least he learned one crucial fact from the abomination that was his forays with Vespa - he could not possibly be any worse than his blonde compadre. No chance in hell. If he was even a modicum worse than the boy, he'd be dead by now. Medea would've snuffed him out, but instead...
He offered Vespa a sly smile. "We gotta fly now. It wouldn't do us much good to stick around; I doubt unconscious people offer much energy anyway. Maybe I'll see you again and we can try Energy Draining Take Two." He squeezed the boy's shoulder before turning toward the depths of the alley, where he intended to cut through the streets and into a more private setting.
With any luck, he might avoid the repercussions altogether.ChibiGingi this will work as a close for me, with the option to continue if you like!

It was harsh to hear his under breath comment, but Vespa didn't argue or object to it. After all, he messed up and so he simply had to accept the consequences, whatever they may be. Adonis had every right to be angry with him and he was honestly surprised that he wasn't trying to throttle his neck right now, though really, given the other senshi's temperament, maybe that was just Vespa's paranoia and self loathing getting the better of him. His first reaction to stop apologizing was to apologize, naturally, but he was able to cut off the words before he got too far into it and risked angering him again. "I'm sor... right, I'll do better the next time. I promise."
Except he didn't really want there to BE a next time. Not that he would admit this to Adonis, anyway... he didn't object to either his plan of laying her into a more relaxing position nor splitting up, and he was quick to assist Adonis in any way he could. It was the least he could do for messing this up for him, right?
"Oh... okay..." Vespa held up the woman as best as he could, fighting the sense of awkwardness that came every time he was near a member of the opposite gender, and he was a little too quick to want to drop her off into the frayed blanket that Adonis offered though careful not to drop her. As willing as he was to depart, he was hesitant to leave her alone, and he offered a suggestion of his own before he followed him into the depths of the alley. "When we get far enough away, I'm gonna call the police... if only to make sure someone else doesn't sneak on her and does something awful. Well... worse than what we would have done, I guess."
Even Vespa knew that there were worse things than death, and he didn't want to drain her energy, much less allow anything worse to happen. And he was certain that Adonis wouldn't have objected to his plan... because he didn't seem like such a bad guy either. "She don't recognize us thanks to the magic, but still, it'd be the right thing to do, right?" Strickenized And done! C: They need to meet again sometime.
