Green eyes peered up out of the bag with happiness. He was doing a good job after all? Yay! Yay! Yay! Thetis wasn't a total failure, although he was almost a pancake when Ruthie picked up the back and slipped it over her shoulder. The simple motion had caused the notebook to shift and Thetis had to squeeze his way out from under it.
"I'm okay in here," he said. "I have concurred the notebook and am the reigning Lord of the bag now."
Then there was silence as he considered what she said.
"You would cook for me?" WHAT A JOYOUS DAY.

"Excellent, good sir!" Ruthie stood very, very, very slowly so she wouldn't disturb Thetis. Hopefully he wasn't susceptible to motion sickness!"Yep. You're in luck, for I have just finished grocery shopping and food is aplenty! Vegetarian, carnivore or omnivore?"
She started in the direction of her apartment. Thankfully she lived close to the park, so he wouldn't bob up and down with the pens and notebook for long. She exited the park and started along the road home. She noticed the ribbon around his neck. "What are you doing out here by yourself, little one? Don't you have an owner, or can cats own property now?"
The walk signal flashed at her crosswalk, and she briskly walked across the street. She looked over her shoulder for cars making turns. She never trusted drivers, and she hoped to be especially careful with such precious cargo.
Upon reaching the door to her apartment building, she said, "Just a little longer. We're almost inside."
She took the elevator to the ninth floor and exited into a bright yellow hallway with rich red carpet. Every time she strolled down this hallway, she thanked her parents for their support because without them, who knows what the halls or carpets or building would look like? She pushed the key into the door and turned it with a click.
When she opened the door, the smell of roses instantly hit her. Hardwood floors. Vases of white, pink and yellow roses. Glass coffee tables and marbled granite countertops. These were a few of her favorite things.
"Welcome home!" she said, as she slowly set her bag on the cream leather sofa. "Make yourself comfortable!"

A ride in a bag wasn't anything like a ride in a car or even a plane. It was so bumpy and the motion moved suddenly from left to right. He knew and appreciated that Ruthie was trying to prevent the bag from moving too much but it was still a bag and she was still walking. It was an unfortunate attachment to such a mode of transportation.
"Carnivore please," he squeaked out, using his paws to keep the notebook firmly below him. STAY WHERE YOU ARE FIEND, I AM THE MIGHTY HERACLES!
The question concerning an owner brought mixed emotions up for Thetis. There was a little girl named Addison who expected to find him later in the day when she went out to the barn for her evening horseback ride but there was also a senshi out there who his heart belonged to. He loved both of them but only one of them even acknowledged he existed and as she grew up she needed him less than she did when her father first brought him home for her.
He didn't get a chance to reply though. His thoughts so deep in the topic and the sudden movement from crossing at the crosswalk finally allowed the notebook to overcome his great power. Hope was on the horizon for the smooshed cat though because they were almost there! He couldn't help but wonder what it was like and tried to climb up over the notebook to get a look but alas he couldn't see and settled back down for his own safety.
At least it was clean in here. As the bag was set down on the couch and Thetis could finally peek his head out to see where they were, the first thought to cross his mind was that. It may have been clean in the bag but how clean was it in the apartment? He inspected the couch first and when he determined that it was clean enough for his paws to grace their presence to he slowly crept out with his body low to the ground.
New places were full of so many things to find but they were also scary. He didn't know what was around the corner and so he settled back against the cushions of the couch so nothing could creep up on him. Cushion behind him, beside him and below him the guardian cat could feel somewhat safe. Nothing could protect him from aerial attacks of the unexpected but this was the best he could do until he further understood his surroundings.
"Thank you for having me," he said, although it was hard to see him against the cream couch because he was shoved back against the cushions to the point that he was almost practically being engulfed by the sofa.

"Aww Thetis!" Ruthie extended her hand in case the skittish kitty wanted to sniff it because isn't that what cats did to check their surroundings...or something...? She noted he didn't respond to her question about ownership. Maybe he was homeless and embarrassed, and if he didn't have a place to stay, well, a youma could eat him, or a Negaverse agent could use him as a soccer ball, and that wouldn't be right, so she said, "You know, if you ever need a place to stay, you can crash here, okay?"
"Now." She moved toward the kitchen that faced the living area. "I think we have poultry--chicken, eggs? Annnd, we have some salmon and tuna? Any of that sound good?"
She wanted to treat her new friend to a meal. Hopefully he liked some of her protein? Did he want a side as well? She opened the fridge.
"We also have some potatoes, leeks, onions, mushrooms, rice and quinoa."
She liked that umami. Did Thetis like it too?

Thetis' eyes watched her diligently from his safe spot smooshed into the couch as she moved around the kitchen. He was a little envious because if he was bigger then he could use her oven to make so many glorious treats. However, as things stood, he was far too small and it kind of scared it. If he wasn't careful the oven could eaten him instead of baking a cake.
"Does the chicken still have its legs?" He asked curiously. Chicken feet were delicious.
Of course, then she started offering him more things and his curiosity got the better of him. He crawled out from his spot on the couch and perked up, his ears twitching softly as he tried to see what she was doing.
"What's quinoa?"
Thetis didn't know they were basically little balls. Oh, if only he knew.

Does the chicken have legs...? Ruthie raised an eyebrow as she browsed over her ingredients. Was this cat gourmet? Did he appreciate delicacies? If so, she couldn't keep up with his refined palette. Maybe he would be harder to please than she imagined! What did they feed these talking cats? Caviar and foie gras? She poked her head out from over the kitchen counter. "Umm...no?" She smiled. "Would you like to come see what's in the fridge?"
"And quinoa's a grain! My mom says it's super healthy, so maybe we should try it? I haven't cooked it before, but it could be yummy!"
Maybe Thetis would like some grain? Could cats digest grain?
"As for drinks, I have apple juice, water, milk and secret wine."
Her birthday was only a month away, but her parents' gift came early, and it seemed wrong to let a beautiful bottle of wine waste away.

The tone in Ruthie's voice when she said no to the chicken legs made Thetis cringe. He didn't see the smile on his face, and if he had it might have been reassuring. Instead, he shook his head to the option to look inside the fridge and settled back down on the couch. He didn't want to intrude but he already felt as if he was.
"Anything is fine..." he replied meekly.

"Aww, would you like me to order something?" Maybe she could make him meat cereal? Yes! That seemed like the perfect idea! Cats liked chicken! Cats liked milk! The combination seemed perfect! "I'll make something to hold you over! Don't worry!" She dug into the bottom drawer of her fridge and pulled out microwavable fish sticks, which she popped in for fifteen seconds. She poured a some milk into a bowl and set them on the coffee table before the sofa.
"Is this okay for now?" She plopped on the couch beside him, noting the meekness in his tone. She rested her head against the back of the sofa. "Tell me! What would you really like to eat?"
She hoped she could dig up something for her shy little friend!

"I'm sorry," he murmured in response to her asking if he wanted her to order something. He was such a hassle, she wasn't going to like him anymore!
He might have simply melted into the cushions of the couch if she hadn't sat the bowl of milk on the table nearby and plopped down on the couch. It was slow with a hint of hesitation but the allure of milk drew Thetis out from his safety net within the sofa cushions He would conquer the gap between the sofa and the table and claim his prize. Of course, he had to look around the surrounding area first.
Left. Check.
Right. Check.
Up. Check.
Down. Check.
Right. Check.
Left. Check.
Forward. Check.
Feeling somewhat secure, Thetis made the easy leap from the sofa to the table and then sat in front of the bowl. He didn't dig right in, instead first looking to Ruthie to make sure it was okay for him to eat. Once feeling allow to feast upon the treasure that was a bowl of milk, Thetis slowly approached it with his face. Slowly but surely he dove into the bowl until he was close enough for his tongue to lap up a taste.
Good? Check.
There was silence from the cat as he licked the bowl completely clean. Yes, completely. He would eat and do dishes at the same time! Ruthie would definitely appreciate that, right?
"I did a good job," he stated, but it was more of a question as his head slowly looked to Ruthie for confirmation.

As Thetis started his meal, Ruthie browsed her phone for local restaurants. "Cats like sushi right? Do you like sushi? Should I order a platter?"
He didn't seem like the type to enjoy wasabi, though, so maybe she could order it without or scoop it off? He seemed to like milk. Would he like pastries as well? They could probably bake something. She hadn't baked in a few years, though, and she feared burning their food, but if millions of people could bake, why couldn't she?
"Would you like some brownies? We could bake!" She glanced in the cat's direction. Oh! He cleaned the entire bowl. Wow! She laughed. "Thanks for cleaning that up for me. How kind of you!"
He must have been really hungry though!

Thetis' eyes seemed to absolutely shine like the stars when Ruthie complimented him, although a good portion of that happiness was directed at the subject of baking. Oh! Oh, what a glorious day this was turning out to be. Would she really bake with him? His stare lingered on her while he remained silent until he moved across the table and jumped into her lap. There he walked across it until he put two paws against her chest and stood up on his hind legs.
"I would love to bake, could we? Could we?"

Aww! He put his little paws right by the starseed, but unlike Realgar and Leucite, Thetis wouldn't tear out her soul and corrupt her with Chaos!
How cute!
"We certainly can!" She laughed. "Would you like to watch?" She wasn't sure how he could help...being so tiny and without thumbs.
Glad to have found something he enjoyed, she scratched his head.
Bingo!

Hopes and dreams. Why did his hopes and dreams have to be dashed away before he even had a chance to realize them? He was only going to be allowed to watch even though baking was his passion? It seemed unfair. Why couldn't he help her? She said 'we' but he wasn't being included? Thetis' head lowered somewhat, his green eyes peeking up at her.
"Okay..." he said meekly. He wanted to help but he didn't want Ruthie to be mad at him.

Ruthie's eyes narrowed and she lifted Thetis before her. Why did he look so sad? She bit her lip, scared that if he answered yes to her next question, he would catch fire or cut himself or fall from the countertops.
"Thetis...?" She winced. "Would you like to help...?"
Every dangerous potential flashed through her mind, but she was kind of responsible and aware of her surroundings, so hopefully she would help Thetis before some horrific event.
"You can always be honest with me," she urged, in the off-chance he felt pressured to say yes.

Thetis looked at Ruthie but he hesitated to say how he really felt. Should he say yes? Maybe this was some sort of set up and when he admitted how he really felt she would throw him out the window into a mud puddle or worse! Maybe she would tell him she hated him and never wanted to see him again and then throw him out the window into a mud puddle! The horror, the horror!
He winced a bit, lowering his head before raising it a tad when she lured him in with security as she told him he could be honest with her.
"Very much so," he said in a very low voice, his eyes looking at the window in his peripheral.
