Celandine - Lucky Dip
4 7/8 4 3/4 marks

Celandine was disappointed to not have gotten a score that could even give her a chance at the flit egg; while she didn't particularly want a firelizard, selling it would give her more marks to spend. Oh well! Even though the other game wouldn't be as much fun to play, there were other prizes to be earned even if she didn't get a flit egg. And the little wher and feline toys were so cute!

So she handed over the requisite 1/8 mark and stuck her hand in the pot and hoped...and ended up with a black token.

"Noo," she pouted, staring at it forlornly.

Liana - Lucky Dip
4 3/4 marks

Well, nothing else in the Gather so far had caught her eye, and she probably would not be leaving her stall once she set it up. May as well try once more, just for the fun of it. She handed the stall owner one more 1/8 mark and plunged her hand in again, fishing around for a token.

Edit: Unfortunately, this time she pulled out a black one. She should have saved her money. Oh well, with any luck she'd earn it back in no time. She returned the token to the bin and went to see about setting up her own stall.

Craft: Bakercraft
Rank: Sr. Apprentice
Products on offer:
Bubbly pies – 1/8 mark each, or 3 for 1/4

Savory egg pies (quiche) – 1/8 mark each
A single-crust pie filled with a sort of egg custard mixed with other filling. Flavors are: cheese and onion, smoked wherry meat, and mixed vegetable.

Klah rolls (cinnamon rolls) – 1/8 mark each
Spiral buns with a liberal helping of sugar and powdered klah bark coated between the layers. Each is finished with a zigzag drizzle of white icing which leaves the sweet treat very sticky. A small basin of water and a drying cloth is available at a corner of the stall for anyone who needs to wash their hands afterward.

Meat pasties – 1/8 mark for 2
Palm-sized turnovers of dough filled with meat, chopped root vegetables and gravy. Available are bovine, ovine, and wherry meats.

Tuber dumplings (knishes) – 1/8 mark for 2
Small balls of baked dough around a filling of mashed tubers, cheese and herbs. Some have cheese or ground wherry meat in them.

Stuffed papercakes (crepes) – 1/4 mark each
A bit back from the front is a round, very hot griddle on which Lia will cook very thin pancakes to order. Each is then folded around your choice of sweet or savory fillings, and you are free to combine fillings as you like. The bins of fillings off to the side are all diced and cooked as needed, ready to use, and includes wherry, bovine, ovine, onion, cheese, mushroom, a sweet nut spread, various berries, redfruit and sweet cream. Sweet cakes may be topped with powdered sugar or syrup, savory ones may be topped with a sprinkle of grated cheese.

S'aak - Lucky Dip
4 5/8 marks

There was quite a crowd gathering around the Lucky Dip game, now, and S'aak grinned. He kind of couldn't help himself. Sliding in next to D'ei, he inclined his head to the woman with a brief smile before handing over another mark and pulling out a token. "Chance games always make you spend more marks than you think you should," he said softly, reaching into the bin and pulling out another token. "You keep thinking, maybe this one time..."

But that one time didn't seem to be the case. S'aak sighed at the black token in his hands and then flicked it back into the bin. "Looks like those firelizard eggs are going to stay up there for a while," he said with a grin.

D'ei - Lucky Dip
4 7/8 marks

The brownrider didn't much mind V'ell scampering off on her own from Malvren. Shards, they had their own lives in theory. In practice, maybe not so much, but still, for this occasion she arrived alone and after V'ell. Well used to being unable to scan crowds like a person of relatively average height, d'ei simply shouldered her way through the crowd.

A game caught her eye before she caught sight of her weyrmate. With V'ell somewhere not in her sightline, D'ei meandered to this Lucky... whatever. She eyed the pot for a moment, handed over the eighth mark, and reached in. The little white token looked as if it were worth something. "Ah - sir? What is this?"

When answered, she stared at the items possible. "... the mug, please."

'If you can't convince them, confuse them.'

Perhaps not cheery like most people would think of it but for V'ell... well, perhaps she'd like it.

A new challenger appears!

Character name: T’arn
Craft: Smithcraft
Rank: Sr. Journeyman
Products on offer:
Fine steel arrowheads – 1/8 mark for a dozen, or 1/4 mark for a dozen ‘dragon-killers’
Stronger and more durable than the standard stone heads, metal arrowheads are a bit pricey due to the rarity of metal on Pern, but if you really need something killed… T’arn’s are well-balanced and wickedly sharp. There is also a limited quantity of larger, barbed heads for use against dragon hide.

Pendants – 1/4 mark for leather cord, 1/2 mark for metal chain
A variety of semi-precious gems, neatly polished and placed in settings of either silver or gold – whichever one T’arn felt would set off the color of the stone better. For ease of browsing, he has thoughtfully arranged them by color in little baskets. (T’arn himself proudly sports a charming aventurine pendant of his own.) These pendants come with either a leather cord cut and sized to fit, or a metal chain matching the setting of the gem.

Wher figurines – 1 mark each (3 in stock)
These carefully sculpted little whers are small enough to fit easily in the palm of your hand, but their heft indicates that they’re solid metal. There are three: one is in a playful pose with its fore end lowered and head angled up, with tiny chips of green stone for eyes. One is reared up on its hind legs with its jaws open and tiny teeth on display, with red stone chips for eyes. The third is curled up and apparently asleep. T’arn encourages visitors to pick them up and examine them more closely.

Talon sheaths – 4 marks each (2 in stock)
There are only two sets of these: one sized for small whers (green through small brown) and one sized for large whers (large brown through gold). He is quick to explain that they are for purposes of decoration and intimidation only, and have not been tested in actual combat yet… but boy do they look impressive. Gleaming, polished steel, lovingly engraved and reinforced with sturdy bands at the base of each, they fit onto a wher’s forepaws like a gauntlet.

(Note: T'arn encourages IC bartering and haggling!)

Arlii - Peya's Smith Stall
{Current marks: 5/5}

Gather's. They had been a thing she had enjoyed greatly before. But now, she had mixed feelings about them. Still... the Crimsonrider had finally agreed to come. Mostly because Erinaeth wouldn't shut up unless she came. The crimson was just ecstatic about having this juicy chance for Prime Gossip! Arlii, on the other hand, just wanted a good drink and maybe something useful from the stalls? It was the least she could expect from this Gather. And those ruffians. Gah! She didn't even want to think about the situation. Or the fact she probably had several of her wingmates keeping an eye on her. Since her loyalties could be questioned.

Bastards. Annnnd then there was good ol' S'vor speaking. Arlii didn't cheer or make any noise as the Wingsecond spoke. No she just rolled her eyes and quickly headed towards something useful.

Which was how she wound up browsing said stalls. The baker's stall she paused near, contemplating getting a tasty snack. But it was the smith's stall that really caught her eye. Ah, yes. Now that held useful objects. Though it only took one glance to answer if they had arrows or not. Looked like she'd have to browse some of the other smith's stalls. But those daggers...

"Say, ma'am? Might I ask how much you be lookin' for one of those standard daggers?" Arlii inquired, tapping one of said daggers.

--------------

Tabathi/Tabatsk - Playin' Lucky Dip!
{Current marks: 4 7/8}

"T-Tabs!" Tabi stumbled as the tiny green wher attempted to hide behind her, hissing at something. The jumbled images she was getting from Tabatsk made her think of a banner of some sort fluttering in the breeze. "It ain't gonna hurt you, darling." Tabi sighed, soft smile forming as she stroked Tabatsk's muzzle. The wher whined - and hissed at the Thing again - before taking her place glued to her handlers side. Tabi did feel bad for her bonded. She'd been very wary of coming to the Gather to begin with. But when she'd found a kind Rider who was willing to transport them, she'd finally decided to come.

Tabatsk did not like flying. The poor dear had been jumping at every shadow since, treating them like they were a threat about to take her on. And the crowd! Tabatsk grumbled.

"C'mon, sweetie. Let's go check out the stalls?" Find a pleasant distraction for the wher, more like! Tabi couldn't deny she was a little hesitant around this crowd. And that was on top of her shyness! But she hadn't wanted to miss out on a Gather...

Another hiss and tongue clicking had Tabi glancing in the direction Tabatsk was. It was a game stall and... that looked interesting. "Let's go check it out." She patted Tabs on the head and the pair moved to watch a few others attempt the game. "We just... stick our hands in there?" Tabatsk snorted, sniffing at the cloth before ducking her head. She sat behind her handler, tail curled protectively around her while Tabi carefully fished out the required mark.

"I'll... give it a shot." She smiled, handing the old man her mark. Then hesitantly stuck her hand into the scraps of cloth.

EDIT: She sifted her hand around carefully, bumping a token here and there until she found one to grab. Clasping it in her hand, Tabi pulled it out to reveal... a white token! "O-Oh! I... won something!" Tabatsk peered around to sniff the air, head tilting to see what her handler had won. "Umm... might I- Tabs!" The tiny wher wharbled, pawing at a plush. "I guess we'll take the wher plush, please!" Tabi giggled.

Celandine - Lucky Dip
4 3/4 4 5/8 marks

A black token would most certainly not do, not at all! She at the very least wanted one of those feline plushies, and she was going to have one. Determined, she paid up again and dug around in the pot a second time before taking a deep breath and pulling out a token. Please please please let it be a good one this time!

And it was, oh, it was! Celandine beamed happily as she held it up. "It's red!"

Erie - Lucky dip
4 7/8 marks

Erie didn't really want to be here, she couldn't believe the people briging their whers out into sunlight, it made her feel ill that they would, protecting their eyes or not the whers should be safely back in their nice darkened kennels, snug and asleep, like her Erisk was. She sighed, she'd had to chain Erisk up when she wasn't around lately, the wher wanting to be near her more and more.

She tried to ignore the gloom she felt almost every day now and try and have some fun, though she wasn't the best at socialising. She decided to try this lucky dip thing she walked past.

Erie - Lucky dip

OOH a green token! She wanted to try for the firelizard eggs though. "I'd like to have another go please?" she got told that she could do that and get one of the white token prizes "Oh! could i get a green Wher plush then too?"

She took the plush prize and tried her luck again and puilled out a black token, a non winner. Oh well she still had the plush Wher. She debated trying again though.

Erie - lucky dip (having another go)
4 6/8 marks

"I'll have one more go" she said, turning over her 1/8th mark and dipping her hand into the pot again. A white token this time ... well .. she didn't really need another firelizard that badly. "the sweets thanks" she said, taking her prize and moving off.

S'aak - Lucky Dip
4 1/2 marks

People were coming and going, mostly failures. He wondered idly if there were any red tokens left...only to hear Celandine's triumphant shout as she held aloft one of the red tokens. "Congratulations!" he said, clapping her on the shoulder. "Lucky you." And then he looked back at the vat of tokens. He'd spent almost a half-mark on silliness already...but this was what a Gather was for, right? Spending your marks on ridiculous things? He flashed a smile to Erie, one that turned into a soft, sympathetic sigh as the girl turned in a token only to come up empty-handed. "All right...one last go, I think." S'aak smiled, handing over another eighth-mark piece.

Another black token. "Ah well," he said good-naturedly. "I tried. Have a good one, folks!" And with that, he turned and sauntered off.

(Die 1: Rilli, Die 2: Sasar - Both haggling)

Rilli - Vakus's Stall
Marks: 5

One good thing about Gather's that Rilli wouldn't admit in the presence of Risk, is the fact that they were generally daylight events. It was nice on occasion to get away from his possessive presence. Even if she was tired, missing her own usual sleeping hours, she was determined to make the most of it.

Her first stop after the markedly short speech by some rider she didn't know or care about was the leather worker's stall. She'd seen something during set up that she decided she really needed. Rilli made a beeline for the stall but found her original purpose forgotten in the buzz of activity surrounding it. Not only the patrons, but the vast amount of firelizards. She coughed to cover a laugh of surprise. "Yer lucky my Risk is in his kennel! He'd eat those up right quick." She grinned at what she felt was a clever jest.

"I'd had my eye on that saddle ya got there until I saw yer little pets!"

Sasar - Peya's Stall
Marks: 5

Let other's be intimidated by the handsome woman behind the stall. Sasar feared no one and nothing. He was firmly convinced HE should be the one feared. He and Sasask that is. The handler was never far from his wher, even during the day. Sasask was currently prowling the outskirts of the Gather area, searching for a cool place to lay down and sleep.

Sasar had trained his beast to careful obedience in the short time he'd had him. There would be no move from the wher unless directed by Sasar to do so. Sasar took pride in the creature and didn't stand to be humiliated by him.

As for Sasar though, he was always interested in checking out the weaponry when it was on display. He was aware of the benefits of whips but those generally required more finesse than he possessed. Knives were the same though he still carried one.

Instead, Sasar had picked up one of the brass knuckles, wedging his fingers in and gripping it firmly. As long as he could still get it off (he could with some wiggling) they seemed more up his alley. "How much for the pair?" Sasar asked bluntly.
