There was not much The Dream could do as Salem viciously began stomping at Cyrus' limbs. He cringed as stomp hit his right arm. He wrenched it back to his body. The same happened to the left arm, from that point though, he would immediately use both arms to keep his head covered and block any shots to the skull and facial areas. Stomps continued to rain down on The Dream to include his arms, legs and torso area.

Each strike to Cyrus' body drew more ire from the audience, and it didn't take very long before an overwhelming ovation of hatred was poured onto the young world-title contender. It had only been a year, but Salem had already made a name for himself through his skills and ferocity in the ring, even if these facts were hard for the fans to swallow, presently. But, oblivious to their animosity, Salem instead went full-circle around Cyrus, taking advantage of his preoccupation with guarding his face to grasp the leg he'd first stomped on, a moment earlier. Wrenching his foot by the ankle, Salem attempted to secure a submission on Cyrus in the early goings of this match - not necessarily to achieve a quick victory, but to wear away at the veteran's stamina with a well-applied ankle lock.

The Dream felt Salem begin to wrench on his ankle, that wasn't good. Pain instantly crawled through Cyrus' ankle. He attempted to throw a kick up at Salem to knock the rookie away but was unable to hit reach his target. The Dream struggled a bit more but was eventually turned over into the ankle lock submission. Pain showed in the man of Dream's face. His only chance was to get to the ropes before damage could be done.

Salem was wrenching at Cyrus' ankle with a crippling amount of force, tugging on his joint in such a fashion that some fans in the audience were worried about long-term damage. But "The Dream" was far from rolling over - struggling to claw at the mat, he tried throwing his spare leg up to kick the rookie back, but his position had prevented the blow from connecting. Still, Salem's focus on causing damage more than gaining the victory enabled Leone to find a bit of traction against the canvas, pulling himself gradually towards the bottom rope with Salem in-tow.

The Dream fought to not let the pain get to him. It was difficult, however, Cyrus had dealt with ankle surgeries in the past. The ankle was for sure a delicate subject. The man of Dreams slowly but surely made his way to the ropes, clawing and grasping to get a grip on the canvas as well as pulling the Charismatic Calamity along with him. The Dream reached out, grabbing for the ropes in hopes to be free from Salem's submission.

Fans cheered in relief as Cyrus had struggled valiantly, making it to the bottom rope despite the agonizing pain that was tearing at the tendons and ligaments in the man's ankle. However, Salem refused to let go even after he'd seen "The Dream" do this, the referee approaching to start counting for the rope break. "One...two..." the official started, Salem suddenly recalling the stipulation stating that failure to heed a rope break resulted in disqualification. Thus, at the stroke of three, the M.W. Deuce finally relinquished his hold on Cyrus' ankle...stepping back only to turn right around and start trying to stomp Cyrus' ankle instead with a heavy boot, holding onto the top rope as he did so!

Salem was so close to getting disqualified by the match's unique set of rules. Cyrus let out a sigh of relief as the submission hold was finally broken, fans cheering at Cyrus' tenacity to stay in the match. The Dream's moment of ease was broken quite quickly, however, by Croft's next action. "Ahh!" Cyrus let out a yell as Salem's stomp connected to his ankle. He grasped at his ankle and attempted to roll away from his opponent.

Fans were quick to applaud Cyrus for his resilience, but even quicker to admonish Salem for his persistence, booing the rookie loudly while he stomped away at Cyrus' injured ankle. Croft's fury was obvious, evident by the forceful way he jabbed his heel down onto Leone's ankle, glaring down at the veteran with a look of loathing. But the crafty Cyrus rolled shoulder-over-shoulder, trying to tumble his way clear of Salem's stinging strikes. Backing away from the ropes, Salem crouched at the center of the canvas, drawing his hand up to usher his opponent back to his feet.
"C'mon, Cyrus! Get up! Face me!" he roared, fans drowning out his commands with their continued jeering.

As soon as Cyrus was able to get away from Salem, he quickly rolled onto his knees and from there lifted himself back to his feet. He lifted his foot slightly and rolled it around; no obvious damage yet. The Dream glanced over at Salem, a neutral look on his face. The man of Dream's would answer Salem's taunts by lifting his arms and extending his hands out, signifying a lock-up. It was up to Salem now, what would do now that the Dream laid out the challenge?

Salem was a bit disgruntled at the ease with which Cyrus got back up to his feet...he was hoping to have left some lingering pains to remind "The Dream" that the rookie was for real. But nonetheless, Salem smirked as Cyrus held his hands up for a bow-tie, offering to tangle with Salem. Waving the veteran forward, the Charismatic Calamity matched the man's stance, waiting for his adversary to approach and initiate the lock-up, not eager to grapple near the rule-provoking ropes.

Cyrus let a slight smirk cross his face as Salem matched the man of Dream's stance, accepting the proposed lock-up. Cyrus circled the ring towards Salem, ensuring he himself was not at a disadvantage either. The Dream slowly closed in on the Charismatic Calamity, cautiously reaching out for the lock-up. When he got close enough, however, Cyrus suddenly threw up his boot looking to swiftly nail Salem Croft in the gut with a kick.

Salem had been too eager to get his hands back on Cyrus that he had let himself be taken by surprise, the veteran Leone thrusting a heavy boot into the rookie's gut to knock the wind from his lungs and sails. Cupping his abdomen, Salem's eyes went wide as he hunched over from the surge of soreness that had developed in his inflamed organs, fans applauding Cyrus on at the sight.

Cheers came from the fans as Cyrus' boot collided with Salem's gut. Cheap? Yes, but it was fun. The man of Dream's had put up with more than enough of Salem's s**t. The Dream quickly stepped in and reached down to hook both of his opponent's arms up. From there Cyrus would attempt to lift Salem up into a double underhook suplex, and looked to plant the the most wanted man into the canvas.

Salem was helpless to resist Cyrus as the veteran hooked both his arms as he was hunched over, hoisted up into the air much to the delight of the crowd. Heaved head over heels, the loudmouthed rookie was suplexed across the canvas, sitting up right after hitting the mat to clutch his lower back with a gasp of pain.

After tossing Salem to the canvas with the double underhook suplex, The Dream quickly rolled back to his feet to continue on the attack. Turning, he saw Salem seated, holding his back. Cyrus immediately rushed forward, looking to hit Salem with a solid shin kick across the spine.
