As Naia's head rose once more that night from the still lake waters, Kamala stirred from her peaceful position, head snaking from its cradle to gaze at the emerging Merkein. "There you are," she said. "I knew you'd be able to handle your own." She eyed the fish as Naia offered it to her. "And I see you've even caught yourself a midnight snack."
At Naia's offer, Kamala wrinkled her nose. She would eat fish if survival was in question, but if given the choice she'd rather eat things that tasted of dark earth and red blood than of pale water. "Thank you for thinking of me," she drawled, "But I should be going. Enjoy your catch," she said as she held up her own Ayrala orb, indicating a more general meaning than the fish.
Kamala ruffled her feathers as she got to her feet, testing the slight breeze that now rippled the waters of the lake. "I hope to share another adventure soon, Naia!" She cracked a grin, unfurled her wings, and took off.

Naia cracked a faint grin at Kamala's vote of confidence. "Adventure is so tedious with a partner who can't pull her own weight. I'd never do that to you." She glanced down at the declined fish, shaking her head in mock-sorrow. "And someday I must find a fish to tempt your picky tongue." Though the words were said with a sigh, she was more amused than saddened by the Alkein's characteristic refusal.
Naia nodded happily at Kamala as the other held up her orb. "I shall, and I wish you the same." As Kamala stood, so did she. A firm nod answered the Alkein's parting words. "I'll be on the lookout for more prospects."
The Merkein gazed after her friend until her winged form vanished into the night, then set about recovering her energy from the raid's exertions.
