Epine de Rose

At his request she was instantly quiet for a moment, which was to be expected but not natural for the mare. When she did used to linger on her personal issues she found life to be somewhat unbearable and upsetting all of the time. She had made harsh mistakes as an adolescent and lost some very close friends to her personality. As she matured so did her ability to interact with others, and if she did have the chance to reconcile with them she would and mend the hurt feelings. But for now... life was just easier in the positive sense. She had been outcasted, and would search until she found a new group to join.

"Its complicated, but I assure you, something I am getting through." She smiled at him gently. "I appreciate what you are asking and have tried addressing some issues many times. I don't try to think of them as burdens per se anymore, but items I needed to become me. Growth spurts." She shrugged lightly while turning her eyes elsewhere. She always found it hard to actually talk about herself. Being deep was not her favorite.

"The shackles are becoming less gruesome, I promise!" It was true. In her youth she couldn't bear it, but perhaps some of the silence and alone time she had in her travels had calmed all the bad memories and feelings. "One day I will find a herd that accepts me, so there is no reason to be sad until then." She paused suddenly, and wondered. "What about you? Would you ever join a herd as well?" Although her first herd was not a pleasant experience, she was hopeful the next would be everything she wished for in companionship.

"No," he replied gently and shook his head. He had once been part of a herd and it had been for that reason that he had led a life of constant conflict and strife. He had never rested, never paused, and had always been in constant motion until one day someone had simply asked him 'why' - it had taken him thousands of miles and years upon years to find the Kawani, and it was only when they had asked him this question that he had stopped. Never before had his actions been questioned, had he been delayed in his pursuit, and he had not been surprised to discover that Eudoxia had suffered a similar fate.

"I was once in a herd and through their misguided ways I became lost," he explained and released a small sigh. "I became violent, amoral - the things which others fear most and yet they turned me in to it to 'save' them," he continued and turned his gaze skywards. A small smile lingered upon his lips and he shook his head. "While some may enjoy the benefits of being in permanent companionship it is not for me; collective thoughts are no longer something I aspire towards," he remarked and returned his attention to Neo.

"I am happy as I am, alone with my own thoughts and guided by my own purpose," he offered after a few moments. "The influence of others is not something I have in my life any more, though I wish you luck in your attempts to find a place to call home." He drifted into silence, deeming himself to have said more than enough. He knew that there were those that thrived in company and needed it, he would never look down on those who found it either, but such a life was most definitely not for him...

She was sad to hear how his own experience had played out. She hoped for her sake she stayed far away from whatever herd he was talking about. To her, acceptance was an interesting concept. Her family had accepted her on blood premise, and her first herd had not accepted anything about her. And yet here she was, meeting a new acquaintance, and he had not rejected her, and seemed to be accepting many things about her.

Perhaps her fairytale of joining a big group of people would not work out as it played in her thoughts, and herds and politics could not come easily with her personality... In her heart she wished for such, but what if she was better off alone? Or in a smaller group at least? She would need to keep searching to find out.

"I'm glad you were honest in your experiences. I need to hear all angles, somewhere in my mind it is placed that a herd is my answer to happiness, but it never was in the past. It didn't work out but I feel like I need to try again. Maybe I'm just on the hunt for some friends- but that sounds rather pathetic, doesn't it?" She chuckled lightly and rolled her shoulders. "Ah well. So what is your purpose, if you don't mind me asking?"

"I have no reason to lie to another," he pointed out with a wry smile, tilting his head to the side as he listened to the mare discuss her reasons for seeking out a home within another herd. He had no grasp of what had given ground to such aspirations, nor did she seem overly inclined to talk about them; add that to the fact that he wasn't one to pry and it was unlikely he was ever going to find out. Nevertheless, if she sought acceptance and a home within another herd then he saw no reason in cheering for her and hoping that she found that.

"There is nothing wrong with seeking out friends and companionship," he reassured her and shook his head. A small sigh escaped from his lips and he flicked his gaze towards the edge of the forest. Beyond it, he knew that there were plenty of soquili, individuals and herds alike, that wandered. Suffice it to say that she wouldn't struggle to find some friends once she put her mind to it. "In fact, one would say that it is a perfectly normal inclination, ultimately, most beings seek to remain in the company of others...or at least near them."

"You should not regard normal desires to be abnormal and worthy of disdain, it brings unnecessary discomfort," he advised and then took a breath. When she asked about his 'purpose' he wasn't entirely sure of how to explain it, he knew what his purpose was but to others... Well, they may not necessarily understand. Nevertheless he had been open with the mare until now and so he gave a small shake of his head and chuckled.

"My purpose is to live."

There was something so serene on the way he spoke, and Neo wondered if she would ever be lucky enough to be that wise. The stallion may not have realized it, but everything about him was confident, and she was somewhat jealous. The more she pondered, jealous was not the right feeling, and she scolded herself internally for even considering it. She felt a mixture of impressed and excited that she too cold get her own grasp on life the way he had.

"If its any consideration I'm really glad I spotted you today, and that you were kind enough to teach me so much." Her bubbly smile resumed and she wondered if she too was feeling a bit confident all of the sudden. He may not have realized how much she cherished their conversation, and she was grateful she had a lot to think about as she continued on her adventure-- to wherever she was going.

"Don't be surprised if I ever come back for a quick hello..." Even if she did find a home, it was comforting knowing she had a secret life coach, even if it was a foolish and childish thought. But his presence was exciting, and that alone was enough to make her grateful he had taken the time to even speak with her. "I just hope I can be of help to you one day, just because it would be fun... Thanks, Nikandros, for listening and being so kind today!"

Bubbly and so full of life, while she may have been jealous of him for a small moment, there was a tiny tweak of it within him as well. Perhaps if he had not been 'born' for his purpose then he would have been the same. Not so withdrawn, not so jaded by experience, ah...but why dwell on it now? He could do nothing more than present her with a much warmer smile in place of one that had been wry. Her gratitude was not something he thought he deserved, but he accepted it with as much grace as possible.

"I am glad that you spotted me too," he replied and gave a nod, and much to his own surprise he found that he was genuine in this sentiment. The stallion might have been comfortable with his solitude but there was something uplifting about encountering another; even more so when he was able to provide them with help rather than harm. "Should you find you are able to relocate my lake again..." he glanced at his home thoughtfully and shook his head.

"You will always be welcome to drop by," he concluded, though he doubted she would stumble upon him again. Those who found him often did by mistake, he had never picked spots that were easy to locate, he wouldn't be terribly surprised if she never found him again... though it was a touch saddening. "But for now I will wish you luck with your travels, I hope that things will work out exactly as you plan..."

[[*Sad wave of farewell to Neo*]]
