"Why? It's simple, to watch you enjoy yourself. Not to see if you do have fun - I'm sure you do.And yes, I'm sure those were fun, I'm somewhat disappointed I missed seeing those experiments of yours." He felt for the civilians, wished they didn't suffer or die, but on the other hand he liked to see senshi and knight in pain, suffering, and especially dead. He knew that sacrifices must be made, and some people had to die for the greater good, it didn't mean he had to agree with it or like it. Hell, he took new Lieutenants out and made them take a starseed from a random civilian. It was a lesson which needed to be taught though, even if he hated it. Sometimes it was...what? He wanted to know, was tempted to ask, but he let it go for now. He'd see if he couldn't redirect back to it at some point, maybe he'd forget or decide not to though.

Smiling at the others glare, or rather look, intensified he tilted his head a bit to the side. "AndI know you wouldn't do that to me...you'd do it to Quenton but not to me..." Even if it affected him he knew the attack wouldn't be against him but aimed at Quenton. Alois hadn't met him and yet already didn't like him...he'd try and keep the two from running into each other, if only because Alois likely wouldn't wanna meet Quenton. He didn't want either upset or suffering in some manner from a meeting.

"There is some change....but how much? I do not wish to have any changes that come affect us....out friendship - relationship." It wasn't a friendship it was something beyond that and he knew it; felt it. "I won't be letting our ways part if I can help it..." The ball would be in Alois' court. If they parted ways it would be due to Alois. Alexandre would fight to keep his Captain at his side and living with him.

"Actually...I have been recently thinking of something...if you want to lend an opinion."

"You know, huh? And how arrogant are you to sink you can predict me like zat?" Finally Alexandre struck one of his pet peeves - Alois could hardly prevent his anger from cracking his voice. "You sink you can just assume what I mean, what I do, what I want? No - you can't. Don't try to put yourself on such a pedestal, Alexandre. Because belief' me, you would haf' a long way to fall. Too far to survif'e." The urge to simply leave the table, and Alexandre in the process, tempted him greatly. On the other hand, that would be capitulating to the enemy - did he really want to show his back to someone who claimed to know him so thoroughly?

Forget it. He no longer possessed a reason to stay. As Alexandre continued making his points, Alois found it increasingly difficult to sit at the table without either physically attacking the blonde or getting up and taking his s**t with him. Maybe it was a mistake to move here - how long did he really think this piece would last? Alois should've recognized it before - all periods of normalcy were tentative at best. Even with his father, when the man took to treating him like a human being, returned to his baser roots and their relationship formed the mutually caustic bond he still recognized today.

But at least that nuisance was dead. This one, however...

"We don't haf' a relationship, Alex. Not anymore." Alois stood abruptly, even if it hurt. "You can try to tezer me to you all you like - hold my corruption over my head, assert zat I owe you rent, keep some of my sings under ze assumption I'll come back for zem. Ze moment you assume you know everysing about me, I'm done. I'm gone." Standing straight now, he looked down at Alex. "I made ze mistake of sinking zat I was actually on equal ground wis you, here. But I was wrong - you made quick work of zat.

"I don't even know why you'd ask for my opinion, since you seem to know it anyway." He stole his plate from the table soon after and crossed to the sink, where he set the plate down with a resounding clack. "But I suppose zat doesn't matter - you'll probably tell me anyway. No point in telling you to blow it out your a**, is zere?" For now he didn't even elect to look at the boy - he shifted his attention to the kitchen window and the dying light outside.

It hadn't been arrogance that had him saying those words, unlike what Alois thought, but rather confidence in the friendship. Perhaps he had been wrong? Had he misjudged the friendship? Or was Alois just that easy to misunderstand things? Alexandre was beginning to wonder if he really misspoke so often, as it seemed rather impossible to do, and wondered if in part the issue was Alois being easy to upset and easy to jump and conclude the wrong things. Either way he didn't correct it; just shook his head and let the other continue on. Could they ever, possibly, go a week without an event like this taking place? Somehow he seriously doubted it, poor Cadha having to listen to it all, why was it that neither of them seemed to understand what the other honestly meant when they spoke? As it seemed that he also didn't understand everything which escaped Alois' mouth, just like Alois misunderstood things he said.

He wished, for a single solitary moment, that he could pause things and they could talk and explain things and explain themselves. That they would give each other enough knowledge about them self so that these incidents wouldn't continue on.That they would understand just how the other meant something - that they would have an understanding. This was, of course, impossible and so Alexandre settled for watching the other as guild took hold of him as Alois gave up his food. The other should eat...and yet he was tossing out his food because of Alexandre. He'd have to make it up to him later - somehow. Maybe some home cooked food and something from the nearby bakery? The other did seem to have something of a sweet tooth.

"Why do you think I'd hold your corruption over your head? Have I done that yet?" He asked, wondering if the other felt that he had. He couldn't think of a single time he had done that...but maybe he'd forgotten something or Alois had interpreted something as that? It was possible, as it seemed anything was possible really. "I would never charge you to live here - I couldn't....or sign things to me..." Staring up at the other he didn't move, didn't stand, just stared with wide slate eyes at the other. "I had hoped we had a friendship, and not some basic flimsy one." Not what he saw people in high school call a friendship, not with all the drama, backstabbing, and general immaturity. Had he hoped for too much? Had he had that with Alois? Something more mature and he'd gone and ruined it somehow? "You didn't think wrong...I never thought less of you - I still don't...." His words never once rose, they remained soft, as the blond hoped to calm the situation down and tried not to become too emotional.

"I don't know everything - I never could." Though he did wish to know more about the other. His hands dropped to his lap and fisted the fabric of his pants. Blond hair fell into his face as he lowered his head, looking up through his hair and lashes at the other. "I thought that perhaps this house was too small, that perhaps more rooms would be nice. A room for the piano where I could also paint perhaps...and a garage an maybe a private bathroom for you...and more quest rooms..." Each with their own private bathroom. "Maybe an attic as well..." His words here were slow, hesitant, waiting for the other to break in and silence his words. He watched the other as he spoke slowly. It was Alois who could easily render the confident, arrogant, General hesitant, meek, and submissive and he could do it oh so easily. Alexandre didn't want to be on thin ice with Alois - never. Yet he seemed to be on thin ice all too often.

"I was hoping that if you liked the idea you would be interested in looking with me for a new home....something you would like as well." Something he too would call home and make his. "If nothing could be found I was going to offer the idea of buying a place, or land, and having something built...Lily's father does construction." He offered this last idea, of building a place, after some moments of silence. Finally Alexandre fell silent and settled for watching the other through a curtain of ash blond and thick lashes.

"Alexandre." His statement came with an air of command, a guttural accent tinting the words. In civilian form, their ranks mattered little. He took liberties with the boy that most would shudder to attempt - this slight intonation invoking superiority amounted to little in the majority of his endeavors. "Let me explain somesing to you. You'd do best to learn from it - for ze world will make a lot more sense if you do. Ozzerwise, sings will continue to appear sudden and disjointed and ******** stupid. So listen.

"I am free. Zat statement might mean nossing to you right now, so I will expand on it." With a small sigh, he curled his fingers atop the counter and kept his gaze transfixed out the window. "To be free is a notion zis country holds highly, but zey don't know ze definition. Zis is expected. True freedom exists outside of laws, outside of constraints - like our relationship, as you so eloquently put it - and outside of requirements." Alois watched a squirrel scamper across the neighboring yard. "I am free because I can break into someone's house, and ze law holds no power over my decision to do it. I do it because I want to. I am free because I hold no relationships sacred; if I choose to cheat on someone, it won't be for ze fact zat it's cheating. I am free because I can shirk my responsibilities of energy draining, and not cower in fear at ze prospect of punishment.

"I am free because I am uncontrollable.

"So when you talk of a future togezzer, of moving into a new house wis' all zese frivolous amenities, you are shitting on my freedom. You're failing to understand zat, as entities. not even humans, we don't lif' in ze future. We lif' now. So what's ze point of irritating me wis' talk of moving into a greater house and expecting ozzer agents to moof' in when we may not even lif' to see ze day?" The squirrel crowned the hedges, searching for a tree. "To focus on zese possibilities is to lose sight of ze fact zat we lif' now. And if we focus on such trivial nonsense, like ideas for ze future when we should be enjoying ze present, zen what difference would it make if we died zat very second?

"Alexandre - you are nossing if not smart, and zose words do not come lightly from me. Take zis into account: if we are to lif' together, zen take solace in ze fact zat it will happen, whezzer you bring zat up wis' me or not. Regardless of our efforts or endeavors, it will happen." As he watched, the squirrel strayed into the street, only to crunch and splatter beneath a car. "You could stand to learn to enjoy what we haf' right now." Finally he parted his watchful eyes from the window and redirected his attention to Alexandre.

"You haf' somesing in your tees'."

While many might not attempt such a commanding tone with him, in or out of uniform, Alexandre didn't care much for his rank and the authority it carried with it. Often telling people not to use his rank when addressing him. It wasn't something he liked to hang over others heads nor flash about. His rank, while earned, certainly did not put him above other members. Everyone had their own contributions to make and many, he was sure, could contribute more then he could or had. Not to mention he knew there were members who had been in this war, whether active or not, for long as then he had been. So as Alois addressed, and commanded, him he focused his attention on the other with a certain unwavering gaze. The other wasn't scolded, or glared at, it was an honest attentive look.

As Alois spoke Alex took in the words, processed them, and understood what the other meant. They were words he knew were true and yet in some ways his words didn't apply to Alexandre - they simply couldn't. Perhaps he lived in a realm just under the one in which Alois inhabited? Worrying his bottom lip as the other spoke he bobbed his head gently.

"I understand the freedom part - I do. And I can see how it all applies to you - I would not seek to take that from you." Would he? No. The offering of a home was simply so the other felt comfortable and had a place to reside when he wished. He simply thought the other should have some say in it - after all Alois was currently the only person living with him and might be living with him the longest of anyone else who had or would live with him. It was only fair and proper as far as his mind was concerned. "You hold freedom very near and dear to you...more then many people who claim to." Was that part of what made him such a good agent? That he didn't have anything holding him back? Alois certainly didn't seem to allow anything to keep him from doing as he pleased and wanted.

"I'm not trying to s**t on your freedom." Trailing off he thought his words over before he spoke next, wanting to properly explain himself to Alois. He didn't want another communication issue; they had too many of those. "I like to plan and think of the future because if I didn't - If I only acted upon the here and now I couldn't handle it. I'm an organized person who likes to know everything I can about everything, to have everything set up that I can, and so I don't want to reach the future unprepared. And while we could indeed die any moment, something I've long ago accepted and perhaps even embraced, I am not emotionally able to live in that fashion. It would grant me more freedom I'm sure but I simply cannot find it within myself to live that way. If there is no future, if I act and live like that, then what is the point in fighting the war for me? If I do not plan for a life after it, as remote as the odds may be, if I don't then I have no reason to care for many things. I need to build a future that I can see to keep me going and moving forward." Oh how he hoped his words made sense to the other as he stood slowly and rounded the table.

He didn't take the others compliment lightly, it didn't seem like Alois was the sort to give out compliments all that often, so the words did mean a great deal to the blond.

Laughing as the other broke the conversation with those words he shook his head and went to find a mirror, or some reflective surface, so he could check his teeth. As he used a pot on the stove to check he felt himself smiling as he glanced back at the other. Yes, Alois was at least one level above him and most people.
