A Wandering Esper

Beloved Stargazer

"The only way to know is try... But I am uncertain how much she does remember." And it definitively seemed unfair to dump things on her so soon after she found awareness again, but he knew better than to mention such a fact.

"This was never a process for one deity alone to undertake... That is the root of the problem. It is a process... A chain. The chain is broken as an extremely bad link... Nergal could have called the dead to him with some sort of success - not as thoughtfully as I can gather them, but enough for the whole thing to keep going more or less smoothly. I cannot do what he did. I cannot house the dead, or judge them. There is simply no way for me to, so it is not as if I could try to overpower him and make something else."

He sighed. "I waste so much damn time in the Underworld because I cannot fly in it. I have to walk the whole damn place out. Before, he would simply get me where I needed to do and that was that. He had a good idea why now, of course, but this was not a matter he wanted to touch upon.

"And, inevitably, it is you and the children that pay the time for that wasted time." The time he wasted just getting around would have been spent with them if he only could.

It seemed like she had not been noticed at all, which suited Caelia just fine. Her eyes would narrow a bit at what she overheard. This was what had her father so scared ? He was worried about them... ? Caelia would rest her ear against the door, doing her best to try and catch every bit of this conversation that she could. This is was not the first time - she had stumbled into a similar situation before, though not so in depth. If Caelia had her way, this would be the last time.

Clearly it was time for the adults to stop being silly. She would memorize as much of this as he probably could. She would not go wake up Kyrie and Isidore, because then if she got caught, then they'd probably get punished too. But she could listen, memorize, and then plot with her siblings tomorrow morning.

Isidore was the smartest, surely if she told him everything she could possibly gather form this, he could find a solution. Then they could all see it done.

And they would go round and round in circles, her wishing that she could help and yet knowing she couldn't. She was afraid, more afraid than she would ever admit that one day it would get too much for him and he would vanish too. That was her greatest fear, more than Grigori or destruction ... she could survive those with him by her side. Sometimes, when she was very lonely she wondered what she would do if her worst fears were realised, would she become like Echo had ... or would she harden herself, become a bitter and angry god like some she had met ... probably the latter she decided, though it was hard to tell which would be worse.

By nature she was an empathetic goddess, she felt his pain and frustration as much as anyone. She knew she was helping him by being there, by raising their children but often it did not seem like enough. At a loss of what to do she wrapped her arm around him tightly and leaned over to press a gentle kiss to his lips, with it a shade of the power of two, happy memories, positive feelings. It was about all she was good for at this point.

"There is really nothing I can do? No way I can aid the process?" She asked softly, searching his eyes with hers, she might not be of the Underworld but she was a deity, surely that meant something? If only Judgement were not AWOL too.

The kiss did indeed help... And clear his mind some. He lingered in it, having no true want to let go, to be honest.

Something, something... Could there be something else... ? He was of the mind that she certainly had enough to do, to be honest, but at the same time he was not clueless - Ankou could see his beloved struggled just as much as he did with the whole situation.

Suddenly a thought came to him. "The books..." Certainly he could leave that up to her ? Research was more her forte, after all. "I am helping Xun Jiang with something currently. It has to do with Azeroth and the Death Knights... And the creature who created them. The Lich King. He used the dead for his own devices and trapped them into their rotting bodies... The previous incarnation of that being was dealt with, but another must be holding the title... or the mindless undead would be rampaging. We brought Shattrath's books with us. I wanted to try and figure out who created that being, and if I had to expect to deal with more of them - or if I needed to strike at the source."

...What's a Lich King ? Caelia blinked. That certainly did not sound like a nice person at all, if they kept souls trapped where they shouldn't be. And it gave her father yet more things to do ! Even her young little mind was starting to grasp at the problem. There were only so many hours in one day and her dad had so many things to worry about !

Cosine smiled and slipped her fingers into his hair.
"I can certainly do that. Books are something I know well, research is something I enjoy. It is also something I can do whilst taking care of the children. She would be content with that, it was a tedious task that he did not need to worry about on top of everything else.
"So now I am going to read your piles of books, can I tempt you into some distraction?"

"I figure so. hat are your plans ?" He had a few... ideas... But honestly as long as he was not staring at these damned books and as long as he was in her presence, he would be quite content.

Well, that seemed to have stopped that particular conversation, and she probably pushing her luck anyway. It was strange in itself that she had not been caught yet - she usually was. Her mother had to be really, really worried.

So Caelia would tip-toe her way down the hall toward her room. She would write down what she overheard, Augury decided, then go to bed again.

Maybe she could get auntie Val involved too. She'd came up a lot in the conversation after all, and she would probably want to help too.

Really, Caelia had a lot to think about. Even as young as she was, she could tell that this needed to stop.

Yes, Caelia would be able to slip away this time, her parents had more important things to worry about.

"You could at least try and sound a little enthusiastic." Cosine smiled, moving to sit on top of him. "Though that is certainly something I can help you with. She smirked and leaned over to engage him with another passion filled kiss with an injection of euphoria.
