Rebecca managed to coax Jerri out from behind the Frei's ribon with a warm smile, though the boy still remained firmly by Cruz's side. Rebecca managed to pull herself back up to a stand while Jillette tightened her grip around Anita's hand slightly. She peeled herself off of the waiting chair and cozied herself between the (wide) space between Rebecca and Anita.
"Thank you, Anita an' Cruz," Jillette began, her eyes dropping to the floor, "We're sorry for causing so much trouble. Please don't be sad, 'm sorry."
A strange sort of guilt weighed over Jillette since everyone left her uncle's house. She felt as if the isolation she'd experienced in the garden before they'd arrived here was her fault, and she never truly found out what had happened, after all-- only that it made everyone seem so very quiet and sad-seeming. Something welled in Rebecca at hearing Jillette apologize, though she held her head high and offered her two children her hands-- though Jerri and Jillette had grown awfully attached to Cruz and Anita by the end of this night, the resumed their rightful place side by side with their mother.
"Thank you so much, Anita," Rebecca said, exasperated, "You don't have to drive us all the way home, though, we live in Gambino, it's so out of the way-- there's a bus station just nearby. And don't worry too much about Duncan and Johan, I'm... sure that things will be alright."
Jillette and Jerri remained quietly excited about going in a new car, and the potential of going on a bus. Still, both of the children were obviously tired, though it hadn't yet reached 6PM. Rebecca took out her cellphone and checked the time, much to her dismay.
"How about I buy you and Cruz something to eat first," Rebecca added, "There's a good restaurant nearby. It's the least I could do..."

Jillette's apology caused Anita to deflate, first looking shocked then softening. It allowed her to fall back into a more natural state, even though she felt bad for everyone by proxy. Her eyes glossed over but she swallowed back her welling empathy. Anita shook her head, lips tightening as she tried to smile; it came out weak but it was better than nothing.
"No, sweetie, you're fine. Don't worry," her voice was sturdier, more sure, and she gave the girl's fingers a gentle squeeze.
This wasn't any of their faults. Hell, it wasn't Mordekai's fault. He needed help, that was all. She hoped no one else blamed themselves but hearing a child apologize and take effective responsibility for something as heavy as this broke her heart. It would have done the same for Cruz's if he understood the true weight of it all, what had happened, but he was just as lost as the children.
When Jerri and Jillette separated from he and Anita, Cruz took his own place by his guardian. She gave him a quick peck to the forehead which he took with an appreciative rumble before moving behind Anita and wrapping his arms around her shoulders and snuggling up, acting almost like a shawl as he hovered lightly enough to leave hardly any weight. She smiled sympathetically to Rebecca while Cruz buried his face against her neck and hid in her braids. Her eyes perked up at the news, looking more lively than they had for the past few hours. "We're in Gambino, too," a small lopsided smile quirked her features. She wanted to believe Rebecca about things being alright with those two and she turned carefully to give another glance down the hall while she checked her phone. "Mm. If Duncan can make it home on his own, I could get away with driving y'all the whole way. I don't mind."
The mention of food piqued her interest, as well. All she'd had of substance through the entire day was the pancakes from earlier. Turning her head to nudge against Cruz's, she offered another light smooch against his hair to get his attention. "Want some water?" He nodded blearily, worn out from all of the excitement and not having had many kisses since before they left for Duncan's home. Smiling a little easier, she turned back to the three and nodded, staring to walk and lead them through to the emergency room doors, "That sounds nice, thank you. We should all get some real food, huh?" Anita glanced down at the kids, trying to jog their memory of the chocolate chip pancakes and homemade cookies without bringing them up outright.

Rebecca nodded, chuckling slightly when Anita gave Cruz a kiss on the forehead. Though she wasn't aware of Raevans and their unique food sources, she followed up with an addendum to her statement as they began walking. "It's a small Italian restaurant, I hope that's okay, otherwise, there's another plaza nearby. Does Cruz... eat? I mean, he doesn't really have a stomach."
Jerri and Jillette followed along. Jerri was the one to respond to Anita, this time: "That sounds good." He quieted, and Jillette detached herself from Rebecca's side to go and grab Jerri's hand-- their mother looked down at them sympathetically, though she was obviously troubled by the state of Jerri's clothes.
"We'll have to finish cleaning you up at the restaurant, dear... though I think we got the juice off the best we could." Of course, a part of her own dress was stained as well from the incident, but she couldn't find it in her to care.
"Mom, we can't go back to uncle's house?" Jillette asked, her inquiry inspired from Anita earlier. "Cookies..."
Rebecca ran a hand through Jillette's hair soothingly and laughed; she was clearly still tense, still nerved, but she realized it was time to offer her children the comfort they deserved. She cupped her hand with her mouth a second and tried to dissuade herself from letting her chuckle descend into a stressed cry-- she shook her head and quickened her pace.
"Not today, sweetheart. Us grown-ups had a bad day today."
