For a moment, Jett lingered in the doorway; he hadn't been invited in, but the door was still open. He took it as an invitation, even if he did have knots in his stomach. "It's not like that," he said, closing the door behind him before he walked in and took a seat across from her. "And considering how much affairs offend me, I can't figure out why you keep jumping back to that. You know how much it crushed my mother. I wouldn't do that to you. I'm sorry about the DMC. I can do the other two. Proposing. Moving in together." Those were…difficult, but not impossible. He'd had reservations, if only because they were massive steps and he wanted to make sure they were the right ones.
He leaned back, trying to make himself comfortable. It really wasn't working. "It just takes time. I don't know how many relationships you've had. Or how many that meant anything. But I don't claim to be an expert on how long you date someone before you propose, or move in with them. I'm sorry if I was taking it too slow."
He probably should have gotten an apartment with her first, before presenting the ring. But he couldn't just move out and leave his mother there alone. And he didn't want Raven to do something foolish—leave the DMC and be lost forever.

Raven removed her face from the pillow, looking at Jett. “What do you mean you don’t know why I keep jumping back to affairs? Jett, how many non homosexual male senshi are there in this city? I tell you I don’t think the answer is many…Most senshi are girls, and pretty ones at that, why wouldn’t I be concerned. If the situations were reversed and it was mostly attractive men senshi you’d feel the same way I’m sure.”
She didn’t move to go over to him or anything, but part of her wanted to. “So when are we going to get an apartment, hm? I want one. I’ve wanted one for ages and you know that. I didn’t ever think it was such a big step to make, and I really just wondered what the ******** I was doing wrong.”
And it had been eating at her for such a long time. Jett said that they’d do it, and nothing ever came from it and it had been over half a year ago when she asked…and it just wasn’t fair. It really wasn’t.
When did they stop having a relationship where they talked about things…?
“Jett…Do you think we’re going to make it?” The question was whispered, but it wasn’t said in any anger or spite. In fact, there might have been a hint of fear to it, in all honesty.

Jett's eyes flicked to her face. "If you want to make it, yes. If you don't, then no. We're smart people. We can make anything work. As long as it's what we both want."
'Just a second from really considering dumping you' kept repeating in the back of his mind.
Maybe they just hadn't been open enough. Maybe if he was more open, Raven would stop thinking he was going to go after every pretty girl. "And I want you," he continued. "Because out of all the pretty senshi in this city, you're the most beautiful. And the most charming, and passionate. And it doesn't matter what they look like, they're not you. No one could ever replace you. If there were mostly guys running out in costume," he shrugged. "I might not like it. But I trust you. It's not like it would be your fault."
It was all assumption. Hell, if he was really worried about her and the other male senshi, he would have just patrolled with her more often. Besides—it wasn't like Raven was totally innocent. He suspected she was probably the type to have locked lips with a girl at least once in her life.
Hadn't all cheerleaders?
"…Look. I know you want to move out. I know you want to be done living with your parents. If you want…we can start looking for a place to live. But I'm not going to be able to move out until at least October. Moving costs a lot of money and…"
He shrugged. He was still recovering from the price of that ring.
"And I want to make sure that if we're going to live together, it's going to be perfect. In the mean time," provided Raven wasn't drifting towards rejecting his offer or going back to thinking about dumping him, "You know you're welcome at my place. Mom would love to have you. She's been mentioning you a lot. Think she wanted to talk to you about something," Jett shrugged.

She scoffed, burying her face for another moment, not saying anything until he was done talking. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to say anything…or maybe it was. She didn’t know. Finally though, it seemed like he was done, finishing with something about his mother. Was she going to get yelled at by the woman? That was all she needed right now.
Raven looked up at Jett again, giving a pouting face. “…Raven Draven…I’m seriously going to become Raven Draven…why did I think that was the most amazing thing when I was younger…I don’t even…I don’t even understand Jett. I’m going to become Raven Never Draven…what kind of a name is that?”
It wasn’t a yes…or at least she didn’t say yes…but she hoped he would catch the implications…or at least…she hoped she was trying to make the right implications…
Maybe it was a yes…but then again…she still wasn’t completely sure.

The pout was a side of Raven he hadn't seen in a long time, and it brought a small smile to Jett's face. He was trying to remain optimistic, but he hadn't missed the fact that she hadn't exactly said yes.
There was still doubt in the air, at least so far as he could tell.
"What's so bad about Raven Draven? You could keep Moore if you really wanted, I wouldn’t be too offended. But Raven Draven's kinda cute, if you ask me."
He shrugged, grin still faintly in place. He was trying to stay in a good mood, though the knot in his stomach had far from receded, and even though she'd invited him in, he still couldn't make heads or tails of how this whole thing was going to end.
…It wasn't as great as he had expected, but she hadn't chased him out with a broom or anything. Yet. He just had to keep hoping he had a little better luck than that.

The blonde returned the smile just slightly. “Jett…I want some ice cream…and chocolate sauce and whipped cream and sprinkles and cherries…so go and get some…and we can watch a movie and make some sundaes…and then you can stay the night…if you want. I think I would like that, to be honest.”
It was the first time she even thought she wanted him to stay the night in quite a long time…well. She would want him to stay over if he brought all of the ice cream and toppings. Then she would be even happier about it.
“So seriously… Ice cream then cuddles please…”
She didn’t want to talk anymore about the ring or any of the bad things…but she was seriously going to take her sweet time looking at the ring when Jett was gone…from the small glance she got of it…it was stunning. Completely stunning.

Whatever uncomfortable warmth that had been making Jett feel so agitated just flaked away; the knot lessened and he felt as though a great burden had been lifted off his shoulders. He could breathe again without it feeling like each breath was laced with lead.
Ice cream and a movie—spending the night…the very idea of it put him at peace. It had been far too long since they went on a simple date. No side-stepping, no complicated, coded speeches between the two of them, no more begging for forgiveness. Just them, the two of them.
Another smile, much more whole-hearted, settled on his face as he stood. "I can definitely do that. Be back in ten minutes, if you want to pick out the movie." He crossed the distance between them so he could dip low and plant a kiss on her cheek. "Love you," he said—and he meant it.

Raven returned the smile, moving so she caught his lips, planting a quick kiss on them before sitting up. “Love you too, Jett. I really do…so much it hurts sometimes…but…but it’ll be okay…”
She stood and walked over to her staircase, leaning against it, watching him. “See you soon. I’ll pick out a good movie for us…be safe out there, please.”
The blonde gave a little wave, then disappeared up the stairs, diving into her DVD collection, going to pick out something wonderful to really make the night better…wanting to turn it around even more than she already had…oh yeah. And so she could look at her brand new engagement ring.
Oh god. How was she going to tell her parents?
