Urban was enraged to find out he couldn't use Earthquake when he attempted, nor again when he tried to use it. Another Roar came from him as he attempted Thunder and found it too was Disabled. Damn that punk attacking him!

He stalked closer to Kyran tail swaying behind himself dangerously, but Kyran's Disables were working...and soon all the Aggron had was Roar...and his own brute strength.

Jayme was half conscious, watching the fighting from where he'd slumped, fear welling up in him for the poor individual Urban was raging against. What chance did they have against the large steel type?!

"Feeling lucky, punk?" Urban growled at Kyran and lunged at him, nearly tripping on things he wasn't able to see due to his sleep state. He swung attempting to hit with his tail, and stumbled again, falling to a knee and becoming slow to rise again, giving a momentary opening to the top and back of his head as he worked on getting back up. It was a good thing he was asleep, he was clumsy because of it!

Before the distance had been closed so completely between the two, Kyran was trying to use Disable enough for it to have been nervous habit. There were only so many times the skill was useable, however, and it was not the most accurate of moves, leaving Urban with a few moves still left. While it was comforting to know the darkrai wouldn't be hit with some he had been witness to already, it barely scratched the surface. Urban was dangerous, with or without the designated pokémon moves. The scars the aggron had earned over the years were not hidden, and neither was the way he carried himself while immersed in battle. The teen was no stranger to the war front, and the agitation he felt when he realized how limited his skill set had become kept Kyran on his toes.

The boy was tense -- everything was on heightened alert -- but outwardly he could have fooled. Fear shouldn't have been a contestant. Fear was a weakness, and one that he was never allowed to show. Such thoughts had been beaten into him with acidic words far too often for them to be lost on him now. His movements were slow, stepping to the side so Urban couldn't close in too immediately. One wrong move was all it would take to never be able to leave here again...

His stare remained on Urban, calculating. The posed question offered little resistance, and was countered with a seemingly nonchalant air, "Not one bit." He didn't see the point in lying, but it sure could have been taken as a taunt. Once movements sped up, the child stumbled further back, trying to stay out of reach while simultaneously upright. Staves were not the best tools for maneuvering backwards, that much was certain. However, once Urban caught the ground, Kyran hesitated a moment before reacting. He... wasn't the violent type, and almost thought to take the opportunity to run. He flinched toward the trees before catching sight of Jayme in the hot spring, cursing. Injuring one to spare the life of another seemed as fair a trade as anything, at this rate.

Drawing in a sharp breath, there was a quiet, almost inaudible hiss come from Kyran just then as he swung the staff at Urban, "Sorry." Maybe the hit to the head would wake him up, but it would likely only succeed in knocking him further out cold. Kyran could convince him to wake up from that, at least, but what would happen once the aggron was fully awake..?

If Urban had been aware of his adversaries discomfort at facing him, he'd have given a wicked grin showing off teeth with something of a menacing growl to add onto the feeling of unease and fear. Sometimes the best defense was a feigned offense, in that case looking like someone no one in their right mind would want to mess with if they didn't have to. Of course, the situation was necessitating Kyran deal with Urban...

That answer irked Urban, the punk he was facing seemed too calm, too collected and it aggravated the Aggron far more than he already was, making him see red so to speak and just compounded the issues he was having with "seeing" in his sleep state.

Urban seemed to be fighting to stay upright as it was with that fall, he was none too steady being stuck in the dream world at this point, which was probably Kyran's biggest saving grace. It was unlikely he'd have been as clumsy if he'd been aware of himself and his surroundings.

The staff to the head did exactly as Kyran had figured and knocked Urban out completely, sending him sprawling into the dirt nearly face down, a groan coming from him as he lay there, all of his previous fight gone. At least for the moment. His dreams took on a randomness that left him dreaming of...well nothing really. It was sort of a blank space he was in, which was fine for him.
PostPosted: Tue Dec 31, 2013 10:00 am

If it had been more than a mere projection of surroundings on the current space, more muscle-memory of an area more familiar, it was likely Urban would have been less clumsy. Kyran was tuned to the aggron's reactions, the words he was speaking and the thought process he may think he was experiencing, noting that Urban likely thought he was on flatter ground than he actually was. Grass was not anywhere near similar to concrete and asphalt, impeding where it was perceived it shouldn't. Using the surroundings to one's advantage was not a new subject, but using them while in the middle of confrontation wasn't. As long as he was able to keep his distance, and strike quickly when he saw the opening, things... may turn out alright enough. Just as long as it didn't get any worse...

He had been tempted to breathe a sigh of relief, once the child realized he had hit his mark, but he was much too tense. He was fairly certain Urban wasn't playing opossum, but he couldn't shake the anxiety. All he had to do was get into Urban's mind while he was vulnerable and not prone to physically attacking, and pull him back out. It wasn't something Kyran tended to do -- wake someone up on purpose -- but it was necessity. He couldn't stay. But then... could he leave, once the teen woke up? Or would he be forced to stick around, because of the damage he had done? Was the aggron always so attuned to combat? Perhaps Kyran's outward appearance could be played to his advantage... maybe he could play ignorant... What have I gotten myself in to..? he winced.

The darkrai sat himself down in the grass, allowing the concerns to be dismissed for the time being. For a second, his attention rose back to the figure at the edge of the spring. At this point, he didn't honestly care what Jayme thought of all this, he just didn't want to be responsible for the injury inflicted upon the teddiursa. Again. Was he always so prone to misfortune? Hard to say who was more unfortunate, at this point...

Quit dawdling, this is imperative, Kyran reprimanded, and responded in kind. The assault applied to the naturally-armored teen left little to act as a barrier against the darkrai, but it also allowed for very little to be guided by at all. Sure, Kyran could see in the dark as easily as if it had been illuminated, but this was darkness influenced by the mind; it was a little different, and as such, a little more difficult to navigate. Urban wasn't currently dreaming, and although his sense of self was likely still present, it would be harder to locate. There was the hope that the mere fact that Kyran was here, while it did not tend to alert, might conjure at least a flicker of a nightmare. It wasn't commonplace that Kyran had to make his own presence known, but... this was going to be one of those rare cases. And it more or less terrified him.

It was likely to everyone's benefit that Urban wasn't in the city street his mind was telling him he was. Things would have been a lot more dangerous, probably a lot more deadly had he been on familiar terrain.

His inner mind was at peace for once. No turmoil. No worrisome dreams or nightmares. For once. So many of both lately. No this was calm. Peaceful. The Aggron looked less dangerous in this moment, lines easing on his face as he slept on.

As Kyran delved into Urban's mind there was a twitch of a finger, a groan of sorts from him as his worst nightmares came to life. Jayme cowering in a corner, broken and beaten and Reese looking smug as could be. It was obvious to Urban what had happened. Reese had finally cornered the teen and had his way with him. That nightmare shifted as his fist connected with Reese.

Him standing at a grave in the rain, an umbrella held over him by someone and he sobbing uncontrollably as he looked down at the coffin. "SOOOOLAAAAANNNNGGGGEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!" his howl of grief cut through the bare crowd and he sank to his knees sobbing.

He had failed to protect the woman he loved...and she'd died. Just like his father had failed to protect his mother. How he had failed to protect his sister.... it was endless...the failure...the loss of those he loved.

"SSSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEE!!!"

He howled aloud even as he lay there a tear dripping down his cheek in despair.

Kyran could feel the cogs of Urban's mind start up again as he entered the fully unconscious backdrop. While it initially surprised him that the aggron could be transferred back into a dream-state so quickly from a complete knock-out, the darkrai began questioning whether or not it really should have been able to. He closed his eyes and frowned, a sigh and a shake of his head, How thick-skulled is this guy, anyway? Regardless of the mental taunts or not, Kyran was, for once, glad that things turned out in such a manner -- it should prove to be immensely easier to wake him up this way.

Once the nightmares found their switch, locating Urban took little effort. The child caught a delay in his actions upon seeing what the outer edges of Urban's nightmares consisted of; the parallels to what he had seen in Jayme's nightmares confirmed that it was a valid fear. How many people were so sure that this man, Reese, would do something so terrible? And all to a single target?

He shook his head, regaining his bearings and focusing on the outcome the child was aiming for. If this had been any other situation, Kyran would have loved picking apart the mess that the aggron-teen's mind seemed to be riddled with. Right now, he didn't even have to pick Urban's subconscious apart at all -- the concussive attack to his head left his fears torn open, hemorrhaging without intervention to facilitate the thoughts. True, Kyran's mere presence left negative dreams as the only viable option, but these were deeper fears, sooner at the surface than one who had merely fallen asleep might be afflicted with.

There was a brief moment of hesitation before he forced himself into the working nightmare. This one seemed to be more stable, with less of an impending transition. Kyran's hand was around the umbrella's handle, held aloft over the distressed form of Urban; whoever had been standing here previously had been replaced. Blinking, Kyran pushed momentary terror aside and gripped the teen's sleeve, tugging, "Come on, we need to get out of here. This isn't the reality you think it is." His voice was steady and commanding, holding a sense of urgency, "You're dreaming, and you need to wake up. There are still people that are in danger and need your help." In fact, Urban himself was one of those people.

If Urban had been aware of the thoughts of the legendary child at his side he'd have quipped he had a very thick skull and throw some innuendo around for good measure. It was a good thing the moron was in no shape to be his usual mouthy self.

Numbers were not something he had when it came to Reese wanting to harm Jayme...but anyone who spent any amount of time around the two could see it after a bit. It became glaringly obvious, unfortunately. It's why he hated the teen to be on his own!

Urban's rain and tear streaked face turned up to Kyran, the whites of his eyes bloodshot from no sleep and plenty of tears, dark rings circled his eyes attesting to the lack of sleep. "Who's in danger?" he wiped the back of his hand across his nose with a sniffle. Who could need his help? Everyone was here weren't they? He didn't look around to confirm. Though he did blink a moment. Someone was missing. Who was missing?

It took him a moment to push himself up to his feet looking a bit shaky on his feet but he nodded at Kyran. "Okay...lead the way..." he turned his back on his worst nightmare then, to follow the child that he didn't recognize. Who was this kid? Oh well it didn't matter. Nothing really did without Solange...

He knew of the confusion that an unconscious mind could delegate, even to subjects that made perfect sense. Most individuals reacted to these instances by rolling with it, accepting that there wasn't much one could do to argue, or to try to manipulate the outcomes themselves once they became aware that it might not be reality. Perhaps Urban was doing a bit of both, now informed and increasingly aware of how little much of this made sense. The teen thought there were memories of the day Solange died, but it was only something he had convinced himself of. If he tried to recall them, it was very possible he could alter the flow of this timeline merely by coming up empty. It would have relied on his problem solving capabilities, however, and as distraught as he was at the moment... it was easier for Kyran to direct him toward his next goal, instead of convincing Urban to realize this wasn't real. No, in this case, Kyran was the one that was going to have to 'roll with it.'

At least he had been acknowledged, despite the scene. Kyran tugged at Urban's sleeve some more in reaction to the question, putting more preference on showing instead of telling the answer. After a moment, though, he figured it might make him hustle a bit faster if he confirmed what Urban's suspicions probably were, "...Jayme." There had been very few instances that the darkrai ever had the need to speak a name out loud; it was a... strange experience. "You're in danger as well, if you stay here," he added, taking a step back as the teen rose to his feet.

Regardless of whether Urban was responding so positively based on the realization that this was a dream, heeding danger, or thick-headedness, it really didn't matter much in the end -- just so long as he listened at all. Kyran led the way, umbrella still held aloft despite the lack of effect this false rain had on him, pulling the both of them in the shadowy edges of the current nightmare. Out of the projection so he could be more aware of his physical surroundings. It was a much easier way to wake up than to be suddenly killed in the dream... that was for plan B.

Any other time the sleeve tugging, even from a kid would have brought a growl of annoyance from Urban, but today it didn't seem to bother him. He was numb beyond belief save for the aching pain in his heart. Nothing else could bother him now...not to the level of Solange's death had. It was but a fluttering of moth wings compared to the sting of a hornet if one wanted contrasts.

It was that name though, it made his gaze sharpen, his shoulders straighten a little. He'd told Jayme not to come to the funeral, knowing how sensitive the teen was, and Solange had been his best friend. So of course he wasn't present. It was a mistake he realized not letting the kid come with him. It was cruel he realized, Reese level cruel. The realization was a sharp slap. He'd never realized he himself was a cruel man.

"Danger? Here?" his eyes swept around warily then, his hand going to his side and coming up weaponless which made him swear loudly. Of course he'd been in a fog and had come off without a weapon. "Where is he? Where's the kid at? Not going to let anyone take him away from me too. I already failed Solange...can't fail Jayme too...."

This was good for his grief a pressing matter needing attended to! It was forcing his mind to focus externally instead of internally. There was a groan from Urban there on the ground as one hand shifted along the dirt looking for a steady hold, trying to push himself up in the way those just waking up tend to.

Before Kyran released his grip on the aggron's coat sleeve, he could feel the pull caused by Urban's tensing at the spoken name. At least he could see despair didn't cut deep enough to cause callousness toward the rest of the world, even if such crippling emotion was all synthetic. The atmosphere seemed to pulse with the swirling of further, interwoven emotions that appeared after confirmation, but nothing substantially strong enough to push its way to the front and indicate what it was that the teenager was thinking. Kyran had hesitated in-step for a partial second, trying to feel what it was in this open book he was walking through, but the main objective was difficult to forget. He knew where interests needed to lie.

It was understandable that Urban would be trying to grasp at information regarding the safety of the area, of those he loved, but there was no use offering the answers. The aggron-teen still believed himself to be leaving the funeral of his girlfriend, stating that it was not real and that he had been referring to the true reality would only spur on a different kind of grief, borne of blind irritation. Kyran didn't need to explain, though, only lead... just like he had done before with Jayme. Deja vu...

He was sure the silence would have grated on the nearly panic-stricken dreamer, but there was no long wait to let that aggravation fester. The edges of the nightmare latched quickly onto the scenery, pulling the two of them into an all-encompassing darkness and stumbling towards consciousness. It was a gradual transition, yes, but quick, assuredly much more gentle than the pounding headache Urban would likely become aware of once the grogginess stepped aside.

As Urban moved to lift himself up off the ground, Kyran flinched, as though he were about ready to scramble backwards and out of the teenager's reach at a moment's notice. If only his mobility truly worked so reliably... Instead, he cautiously fixed Urban with his attention, despite his usual expression being likened to that of a slight scowl when nervous. There was no denying that he felt that if Jayme's present condition wasn't made fully clear, Kyran would find himself in way over his head in the worst way. Well... at least the worst way until his sister caught wind of all this; physical harm seemed pale in comparison to the thought.

Urban had few in the world he could say he cared about and as far as he knew he'd lost the most important person to him. That left the kid as the number one person he cared about and he knew he had to prioritize. Grief needed let out yes, but if Jayme needed protected he needed to lock the grief away for the time being and tend to his charge.

He dried his eyes quickly though they still shone with tears needing shed, his face splotchy but his demeanor changed, became more dangerous with each step. If someone was hurting Jayme, they'd pay it was as simple as that in his mind.

Coming to fully he groaned at the pounding headache a hand raising to the side of his head as he blinked a few times. "s**t...my head hurts. Guess I must've slipped and fallen and hit my head..." it's what it felt like anyhow! Though blue eyes focused on Kyran suddenly and narrowed a little. "Do I know you?" he seemed oddly familiar. He began pulling himself into a sitting position then blinked. "s**t...Jayme! Where are ya kid!?"
PostPosted: Sat Mar 22, 2014 3:43 pm

The disorientation caused from shifting consciousness wasn't lost on Kyran, but the grasp on reality that Urban was fighting for left time enough for the darkrai to straighten out his own mind in working order. His attention was locked on the aggron, his staff having been pulled to lie across his lap where he sat. Both hands clutched the length of it, tensing on the material, poised and ready to attempt to move should it prove valuable for survival. While Kyran was sure that Urban was now fully-awake, instead of experiencing the sleepwalking terror he had been before, he still did not know how the teenager acted like normally. Bad enough for Jayme to have actually yelled at him, at the very least...

Even though greater emphasis was placed on observing Urban's actions, his words were not ignored. Well, fully, at least. Urban was trying to get answers, but he was asking the wrong ones, and likely wouldn't have responded to the ones he got... at least favorably. Sure, they could go with the story that he fell and hit his head; it wasn't completely incorrect, after all, but he knew when it was wise to refrain. Kyran's eyes seemed to narrow slightly when he asked who the darkrai was, a question that the child continued to sidestep. This was no time for meaningless introductions.

He almost let out a frustrated sigh of relief when the implanted concerns finally came back to the teen. Maneuvering his walking staff back to a single hand, Kyran indicated to where Jayme was lying unconscious with a stiff jab of the staff. He didn't really want to risk speaking right now, for a multitude of conflicting reasons, so the boy hoped this was as far as he had to go with it. The situation was already enough of a mess, and he wasn't sure if there was anything more that he could do at this point in time. This internal frustration may or may not have been the cause of the deepening of the scowl on his face.

If only Kyran had realized Jayme had just been in a relatively bad mood, and was long over due for a sudden loss of his temper, he might not have feared Urban quite so much. Then again the tall hulking Aggron was enough to frighten anyone. Which was how he liked it.

He would have pressed the subject of the child's identity if not for the fact he had that sudden consuming worry over Jayme and turned at the pointing the other did with his staff a cry of shock seeing Jayme laying mostly submerged in the water. Just enough of him was draped on the edge he wasn't breathing water but it didn't look like it'd be long before he slipped under completely.

Ignoring the stranger entirely he moved to the side of the hot springs with speed and lifted the unconscious teen from the water reaching for the towel he'd set not far off and covering Jayme.

"Wake up kiddo...come on....s**t...Jayme c'mon..."

His eyes snapped up to Kyran then. "What happened? Who did this to him? Was it you?" there was danger coloring his words as he spoke, still trying to rouse Jayme, though he was relieved to see the Teddiursa breathing at least!
PostPosted: Fri Apr 04, 2014 5:47 pm

His nerves were set to high alert as he warily watched Urban, calculating how his next moves should progress based on what was observed. There was the risk of rising tempers, of actions blinded by emotion, and currently, a life-or-death situation. His tenseness seemed to relax slightly once Urban opted to look to where Kyran had called attention to, but he knew better than to drop his guard completely until he was sure, absolutely sure, he was out of reach.

As the aggron rushed to his charge's side, Kyran took the opportunity to get himself off the ground. He was getting better at using the walking staff for support, but this whole ordeal resulted in crossing wires; it took a little more effort, biting back the fear that was still clawing at his insides, from multiple sources. Steadying himself, he watched the exchange, but stayed rooted to where he had been seated before. Just get out of here, while you have the chance! he heard part of him say... but he couldn't move. Was Jayme okay? Would Urban lash out if he tried to high-tail it out of here? Was there anything he could do to help in any way..? He hesitated at the thought, but the boy still couldn't convince his legs to move. It couldn't have been because of fear, for he knew how to deal with this sort of person... not that he treated Urban with the same respect he treated Kiara, but there was a similar sort of wariness involved, and cautious vocabulary.

He nearly flinched as the teen's words suddenly redirected to the darkrai, voice turning more harsh and accusatory. There was the briefest of flickers where Kyran almost derailed the pointing of fingers in favor of asking if Jayme was going to be alright, but he bit his tongue on it and dissuaded himself from trying with the short pause that followed. "I think it would be best if you asked him that yourself," he finally responded, attention falling back to the unconscious teddiursa, "I'm in no position to say." Kyran knew he'd be too blunt about it. The child was partially the cause for this whole mess as it was, but he knew he wouldn't have been able to admit to anything of the sort. If these two were friends, Jayme would likely be able to say it in a more positive manner... without knowledge of what exactly had happened.

Urban was almost completely focused on Jayme laying in the water and barely breathing by the looks of things. But a part of him was keeping tabs on the unknown child near by, uncertain if he could trust him or not. He figured it better to be safe, than sorry.

The evasive answer as to who, or what caused the teens condition didn't sit well with him, but he did the only thing he could, and he climbed into the hot spring and gathered to limp teen into his arms the towel wrapped around him though it was getting wet. It was a good thing he had his own that could still be used to dry Jayme once he was awake.

Settling on a rock where he could keep an eye on the mystery child he gently shook Jayme a few times trying to get him to wake up, a relieved sort of sigh as the teen seemed to take deeper breaths, and began to stir with a pained groan, eyes fluttering slightly.

"Thank god you're awake kid." Jayme was startled by the nearness of Urban's voice since he couldn't see him much beyond a dark smudge against the dark sky, but he realized after a moment the other was holding him. "I'm glad you're awake! You were being really scary earlier!"

Relief colored Jayme's voice, while confusion was evident in Urbans. "The hell you talking about?" "You sort of lost it and started to attack me and my friend." "I...what?" Urban's voice caught and he stiffened. He'd attacked Jayme? Though the word friend made him look to Kyran and he gave a slight nod of acceptance. If Jayme was calling him friend, the so be it. He was apparently not a threat.

"Come on, lets get back to camp." he rose to his feet, and turned to the boy. "You're welcome to join us if you'd like. The choice is yours. Regardless, I need to get him back to camp and make sure he's okay."

Jayme wasn't attempting to move a whole lot, his entire body ached from all the electrocution and such, but his head shifted to look at the dark and he spied that glowing eye and smiled at seeing the other there but remained quiet, he was more than a little worn out.
