The boys would perhaps be disappointed to find out that the pale Phony that opened the door was in fact not a ghost. Although he had at one stage definitely been dead and exactly what he was now was up for debate. At the first least he looked extremely unhealthy.

"Hello there." He gave them the warmest smile he could manage and stepped aside to allow them to enter. "Please come in. Here for your fortunes, I suppose?"

"Believe me. If the ghost is evil i know several ways to exorcise it." Mooncake stared at Paper, sure of himself. Unfortunately at that moment Cirrus opened the door and the little colt's jaw snapped shut in embarrassment. That was until he discovered this phony wasn't a ghost at all, although he certainly was unusual. "S-sorry mister." At the mention of their fortunes being told his eyes lit up. Well if he couldn't prove that ghosts were real today, at least he could prove that psychics were.

"Fortunes?!" He skedaddled in through the door between the large phony's legs, excited.

Paper Lantern stared up at Cirrus with his big gold eyes wide in fight/shock/awe, then he blinked, blushed, and realized his brother had darted in ahead of him and he'd be staring at the older phony.

"P..please excuse us, we're coming in.." he mumbled awkwardly and walked past the phony with a little bow of his head. He found his brother already deep inside the shop, looking at everything excitedly.

Cirrus followed them in to the little lounge area where he received his customers. Everything in the room was overly plush, from the carpet on the floor to the abundantly pillow covered chairs. Various items were hung around the room, with one corner dedicated to bunches of herbs.

"Please take a seat." He instructed and then disappeared into the next room, the kitchen, where he put the kettle on and returned with a tray of ornate cups and cookies. These he placed on the coffee table and then sat back in his favourite chair.

"We just have to wait for the water to boil..."

Mooncake buzzed about the room excitedly, examining every little thing he could as if they would reveal to him the mysteries of psychic powers. Or better yet, maybe he'd find out this house was haunted by something other than a very pale phony. He sniffed at the herbs, curious as to what they were and what purpose they held. Surely there was something mystical about them.

As he was instructed to sit the little flutter made his way to the overly plush coach, so light that he barely sunk into the cushion. "Water? What kind of fortune telling is this?" He tilted his head, gesturing with a hoof for his brother to sit beside him.

Paper too got caught up in looking at everything in the room. He sniffed at herbs and gazed in wonder at all of the items used to decorate the room. Craning to get a better look at a picture, he'd climbed to the top of a couch and stretched as far as this little body to take him to peer at the picture, but zipped back down to the couch with a small buzz of his golden wings and sat next to Mooncake. he gave his brother a small jab in the side at the water comment.

"Mooncake, don't be rude.."

Cirrus blinked.

"It's quite alright..." he murmured, his sad eyes gazing off into nowhere. "I'll be reading your tea leaves, you see. That's how I read the future. Well, there are other ways too, but I find the leaves to be quite precise."

From the kitchen the kettle began to whistle loudly and Cirrus popped off his chair, disappearing inside. He returned moments later and got to work. It only took a few precise actions and there were two steaming cups of tea in front of the brothers.

"Now, drink the tea, but don't finish it. You need to leave a bit in the bottom."

Mooncake pouted at his brother as he seemed to be misunderstood. "No, I actually meant, what kind of fortune telling is this? Like there are the kind with crystal balls, but they don't use water for all i know..." He grumbled and crossed his hooves, turning to the pale adult.

Tea? This phony was going to read their fortunes in the tea leaves? Interesting. He wasn't particularly familiar with that method of ordaining and he accepted the cup gratefully. The idea that the dregs of the tea could contain his future was quite interesting, especially with the significance of tea in eastern cultures.

He began to drink as ordered, leaving a small amount of tea at the bottom of the cup.

"Oh..sorry.." Paper misunderstood his brother a lot.

Paper bowed his head in thanks as he accepted the tea from Cirrus and blew on it a few times before slowly sipping it away. "Ah this is good, is it something you blend yourself or do you get it from some where?" He continued to sip the beverage until there was just a sip or two of tea left in the bottom and he sat the cup back on the table.

“I blend it myself actually…” Cirrus answered, watching them both eagerly as they drank. He didn’t want to hurry them along, but he was excited to be able to practise his craft with actual customers. Business had been slow the last few days.

“Now that you’ve finished drinking, give the cup three good swirls and then carefully dump the remaining liquid into the saucer.”

Mooncake stares wistfully at his cup for a moment. He smacked his lips, pondering the taste for a moment. "You should stop by our mama's shop sometime for tea..." It seemed he was beginning to grow a collection of phonies he knew that were capable of making good teas.

"So how do you know what these mean? Just intuition?" He smiled and swirled his cup.

"Into the saucer.." he repeated, swirling his cup 3 times and dumping out the liquid carefully. He then put his cup to the side, not wishing to put it back in the small tea puddle he'd just made.

He started to look around the plush surroundings he was in again, becoming starry eyed at the lamps and decorations.

As they did as he asked, Cirrus took the cups and placed them before him. "Not intuition..." he murmured as he began to inspect each in turn. "You have to learn how to read them, different patterns mean different..." he trailed off.

Paper Lantern's tea leaves were, to be quite honest, rather boring. Mooncake's however had much more conflict and that was the one that caught his attention.

"There have been and will be a lot of meetings in your life and a lot of struggle. But bell signifies that you need to pay attention because they will help you grow stronger. The castle asks you to expand your horizons..." Cirrus moved the cup around, reading each clump. "There is someone you need to face, to deal with before you can move on... and love, where is love...? Ah, here we are, that will take time. Love won't come easily for you."

Paper was hovering at a odd angle near Cirrus's shoulder. His body upside down, but his head cocked curiously, staring into the cup as Mooncake's fortune was read. Blinking, he realized where he was and flitted with surprising quickness back into his seat, slightly embarrased.

"Wow.." he turned to Mooncake. "That sounds pretty right though...you and Hard Truths.." He doesn't specify which part he was fitting Hard Truths into. "Was...was there anything like that in my tea..?" he says this shyly.

Not intuition hmm? Mooncake was curious as to what had given this phony his abilities. Perhaps they were just faked. Although he'd much rather if they proved to be real. It would open up a whole bunch of new possibilities if such powers were possible. Was there a book that could teach him how to read the fortunes of others in the tea?

His brown eyes darted over to his brother and it took some effort to stifle a giggle. What was Paper doing over there? The young colt was surprised his brother hadn't crashed into something upside down like that.

The purple flutter's focus returned to Cirrus as his fortune was being read. Having many struggles was interesting, like the tasks given to Hercules, but he wasn't all that concerned about love. Love was something frequently mentioned in fairytales, but he had yet to get to know somephony well enough to even attempt to experience it. If the stories were right, it would just sort of happen magically someday. A grimace passed over his face as his brother mentioned Truths in relation to his fortune. "I'm not going to let that phony control my destiny..." He huffed.

As Cirrus finished with his fortune Mooncake glanced towards his brother, eager to find out what the future had in store for him as well. Surely Paper would have so much happiness being so giving and cheerful. "Yeah, what's Paper's fortune?"
