Darshan smiled at the compliment. Indeed, the traveling storyteller was quite proud of his appearance, but while he may not be considered "modest" about it' he did try to be polite. His unique appearance made it easier for people to speak to him he found; others were curious and didn't usually mind his approach.
"Hmmm...." Darshan wiggled his rump to shake the long eyed-feathers. "I don't know if I would call it common, but they are around. Most commonly on a type of a bird called a peacock. They are like the ringneck pheasants we have here, but much larger and more colorful."
He chucked along with Q. "Entourage, you say?"

"A peacock, hm?" Quetzalcoatl inquired politely as he listened to Darshan's explanation. "We do not have birds like that where I hail, however there are Quetzals - named for me of course - which have long elegant feathers not unlike the shape of yours or the ones that grow from the base of my tail. There are also parrots which while their feathers do not have the same patterns or length, come in a brilliant array of colors. I have seen the pheasants you speak of here, though they do not venture as far South as the lands I call home."
He smiled wider as Darshan inquired about the entourage. "Of course. It does not befit one such as I to travel alone. There are many miles to go, and conversation and company is virtually a necessity. Although.... while you may have feathers, you do not seem to posses wings..." he trailed off, his voice containing more than a hint of a challenge.

"They sound lovely," he said, referring to the Quetzals. "Indeed, birds are a fascination of mine." He nodded down to one of the gilded birdcages hanging from his chains, where a small canary like bird was sleeping with its beak tucked under its wing.
"And indeed, I am not opposed at all to company during my travels," he said with an alarmingly charming smile. He took a step closer to Q, lifting his eyebrows just a smidge as he mentioned his lack of wings. "Well, its true I cannot fly," he said, bowing his head in a show of (perhaps false) modesty, "But I've never let me stop that before."

"They are very lovely. A bird named for me must be lovely, after all." Q said with a rustle of his feathers and a small toss of his head. "And of course, birds ARE special. They are some of the only creatures blessed with wings so that they might fly with the gods.... although... not every creature is thus blessed, even if they might be favored. It is a rare gift, after all." He finished, not subtly referring to Darshan himself.
The easy smile quickly found its way back to Quetzalcoatl's mouth as he considered Darshan's response, "It seems as if you rarely let anything stop you. You have traveled very far from your homeland... possess many great trinkets and treasures along with your stories. Very well, I shall allow you to accompany me." Quetzalcoatl said without a hint of humility.

Darshan couldn't help but laugh. It wasn't cruel, mocking laugh. No, it was a cordial, encouraging, charming, and just generally infectious laugh. "Oh, why thank you very much, Great Quetzalcoatl," he said, sliding his front claws out and dipping his head low. "That sounds excellent," he said, coming back up. "Indeed, it's been far too long since I've had such a beautiful and interesting travel companion such as yourself."
And it was true, and Darshan found himself quite looking forward to their new adventures together.
