User ImageOnly when the sickening sight of the plain had sunk in and she could look no longer did the Cerynei turn her gaze from the Bison and back on to the buck.

Pure of blood? Cerynei mingling with the natives?

She caught his sigh and moved off from the peak of the hill and walked to stand at his side, tilting her head to eye him.

"You must have known my father. Kenton." She uttered and though before she would have said this with true excitement and a pleased smile, the effect the death had on her with it's lingering presence just wouldn't allow it to come back to her all that quickly.

She had a lot to think about and more questions than answers were swarming her mind. Further research was needed with these creatures but the saying 'speak of the devil and he will come' was a good reason not to pry too far in to their business but she felt it was a bit late for that.

Floating in and out of the topic of conversation and their previous one, she also gave a sigh. "What if it gave them a sense of freedom?" She did break a smile at this.

"They come in to a whole new land, with creatures they might have not possibly known existed and of course, taboo would happen." She shrugged lightly and made her way forward. Choosing her steps carefully.

She glanced over her shoulder at the buck."The purest of blood...You're him, aren't you? The one who lead the herd..." She stopped in her tracks for the briefest moment to allow her vision to linger on him. "The prince."

Ah, spoken like a true native. Amaltheia had demonstrated herself to be of the same train of thought as all the younger Cerynei, even the older had eventually come to accept their stance even if it wasn't exactly their preference. When the leaders, elders and council had failed to speak up against the fall of cerynei kind, it had given those younger generations license to do as they pleased. Perhaps it had been his failure, his inability to enforce old traditions in a new land, but Kozue had conceded defeat almost immediately. The buck would have argued that he had done so because it was right; realistically he would have found it impossible to enforce such traditions where the culture was so different... But ultimately it fell to the fact that as soon as one had fallen prey to the soquili, others had followed shortly after.

They had never needed his permission, in short they had taken his guidance to safety and once he had rescued them, he had been dropped like a hot potato. His influence did not exist in these lands and he sincerely doubted it ever would again, it was for that reason that he had drifted away from his own kind as they diluted their lines and left old traditions behind. By now, he would have assumed that the vast majority of the Cerynei in this world were not Cerynei at all - they all lacked grace, they couldn't bound with such grace as their forefathers. Alas, all they could do was trot in a clunky fashion and pretend they were measurably graceful against another soquili.

It was tragic, but something the buck had long since accepted.

Freedom or no, his kind had chosen their paths when they had cast him out and he could do nothing about it. However when one stepped into his life and dictated how he should live and what he should fear, when he was considerably wizened, did give him grounds to correct her. Granted he couldn't place all the blame on the girl, she was only doing what was right by her own kind, but it was not suitable around him.

Unsurprisingly when she tried to give her kind reason for their behaviour he remained silent. Having cut himself off from society he needed no excuses, they were her kind, not his. Ah, but when she finally made reference to her father his eyes narrowed momentarily and then he shook his head, he could recognise many by their faces but never by their name...names had never been something he had needed.

"I do not know of you father," he said at last. Deeming it unnecessary to talk further, he lapsed into silence and began to walk away from the precipice once more, back towards the river where he had been perfectly comfortable before her arrival.

However, when she made reference to who he was, he did cast a critical glance towards her and lifted a brow.

"What of it?" he asked coolly.

User ImageIt was starting to initiate a game of cat and mouse. First she had stepped forward, then when he had decided for himself that the topic had fallen from his interest, he would move on without notice. Then, she said something which she noticed had finally caught his attention. Enough for him to stop and consider giving her another glance. Her lips twitched at this and it spread in to a grin. No, she wasn't one to feel smug at such trivial matters and she wasn't going to play childish games with him... It was something else.

"So it is you!" Her voice increased in pitch and her eyes showed a gleam of delight as his reflection filled them. Seeing him in a new light. It was so obvious now, she had noted small indications and clues but never would she have thought in her lifetime she would see the buck that was a walking myth before her very eyes. She was so excited and had completely, for now, set aside the morbid scene and topic for a later time.

"It just can't be!" She shook her head wildly, her plants were not happy with this action and they growled loudly to show their clear irritation with her;just as much as the prince had been with her through the duration of their meeting. She looked at him, eyes still wide and full of disbelief. Taking in his figure. He was a ghost. He was! How could he be stood here, with her... And such a grouchy old get!

She lifted a brow, realizing one of her long time idols was now alone, drifting without a herd to watch or a purpose to for-fill. His days spent eating, drinking and watching what others were doing with their life. What a sad reality. She had to do something, say something! Her frustration and inward battle was clear as her expression started to fold with her thoughts.

"I have always wanted to meet you. You have been a great figure to look up to, even if during my childhood you were merely a word on a tongue planted in a long forgotten story. I am so pleased I have been blessed with this chance, I truly am!" She bowed her head to him, feeling all that bubbling mix of energy rushing through her and no sooner did she feel the pang of hurt that was inevitable.

Oh good lord was she gushing? Irritation flickered on to the stallion's lips as words continued to spill from the mare's mouth like an unrelenting waterfall. It appeared that she could be momentarily distracted from her distress and purpose when it came to ghosts from the past, but as an individual who did not strive to be any form of idol, he was left a touch out of sorts. This was made worse by the ever rising pitch of her voice, and even more so by the widening eyes. Ah but didn't she look like a filly right now? All eyes and no face, it would have been fascinating if he hadn't been rather desperate for wings to sprout from his back so that he could take flight.

His lips pursed into a thin line as she continued to talk, his gaze hardening, and it was only when she had finished and was gazing at him expectantly, that he took the time to speak. Truth be told this may have been the only opportunity for him to get a word in edge ways, the mare was rather vocal and well... When individuals were vocal they never shut up. Either they had to get the last word in or they assumed that everything they said was of vital importance!

"I see," he replied darkly, his expression ringing clear that he wasn't nearly as enthused as she was by the revelation. After all, the buck had lived comfortably since his kind had left him, he hadn't been coaxed into business that was none of his concern and he hadn't had any responsibilities whatsoever. With the exception of a loss of purpose that he had eventually come to terms with, he was rather content and now this mare had the potential to ruin it all. Ah, but he wasn't so egotistical as to assume that everyone would flock to him, but if word got out he was still alive...

He wasn't really in the mood for visitors.

Even one or two.

"Perhaps you should do what the rest have seemed fitting and keep it that way; a long forgotten story is precisely where I should be," Kozue pointed out stiffly and shook his head. "If you were expecting something more spectacular you are sorely disappointed," he continued and then lifted a brow as a thought came to him. "Though I suppose now that you have seen me you can seek to dispel the ridiculous myths and notions that exist."

Not quite so princely and regal as he'd once been in the stories, eh?

User ImageAmaltheia lifted her head slowly, her eyes even more so as they came across his dark exterior. Apathetic was one thing but this time, she felt as though she had over stepped boundaries. He wanted to be that ghost? Just a memory? She couldn't stand for that. Her ears flickered at his words and she frowned, remaining silent whilst he relayed his 'feelings.' Was he hurt by the past, the fact the others had left on their own paths once they had come across this land? She thought she could sense the bitter taste in his words and when thought about it, that sense had been there from the start.

"No." She stated, taking a step toward him whilst shaking her head. "No. I won't believe you can just so easily pass off the life you once lived." Her eyes truly were expectant now and fragile as they found his glorious amber orbs. "Those who abandoned you for mystery and pretty faces were wrong to, if what I heard was true then what fools they must have been. I would have followed you, I would have stood by the side of my leader and held dear all you had done." She looked away from him and to the peak of the hill. "That's where you should be, still, looking over a herd that does care and appreciate all you do for them, protecting them and watching over them and the young that follows, living the rest of your days with that sense of purpose and belonging that you have done all you can for those that need you."

Ama had always been very loyal and true to those that deserved it and even though she hadn't experienced first hand of what this buck was capable of, she wasn't going to write him off like the others did. She wanted to believe he was this great prince and the fact he had taken the time to entertain her with information which was critical to her teachings in the future, she had no reason to believe that the prince in him had truly left this life for good. It was still there.

Swallowing, she stepped the energy down a peg and walked completely to his side, looking at him. "I wouldn't know, I haven't seen the extent of your capabilities yet. For now, you still remain the legendary leader you was before and until I say otherwise, that's who you will be to me." She offered him a warm smile and looked back down the hill which was much more steeper than she had noticed when they were climbing it.

She just wouldn't stop, would she? Her tenacity was truly incredible and many years ago he would have appreciated it. That kind of tenacity, the stubbornness and idealism would have kept his herd alive. Ah but the irony that now lay in the fact that what stood before him, was not of pure blood and was an example of what he had wished had not happened to his kind. At some point in her line she had found the peculiar soquili with the parasites in their hair, and now she had them too. It was sad and most unfortunate in that respect...

"Listen," He stopped and turned, his tone harsh. "Years ago I would have agreed with you, years ago I would have appreciated your extremely foolish view of the world," he stated. "But I have lived for years in this place, longer than you, and I have watched as my kind have bred our blood to such a diluted state that they have lost nearly every semblance of what made them so unique," he snapped. Shaking his head, the buck heaved a sigh and closed his eyes.

"That herd you speak of no longer exists, and those that exist in these world are not something I can protect or help - that is something you need to understand and respect," he pointed out. "They cannot run as I can, they are not as fleetfooted, I could climb to the highest peaks to save my own neck and they could not follow," he snarled. "For all intents and purposes their small boned and clunky forms are now trapped and it is not my place to save them."

"It is their's, this is the life they have chosen, and even they know that," he continued.

"It is time that you realised that too, you may keep the false idol in your mind if you really want, but know that I do not reciprocate and it is not welcome in my world," he finished. Satisfied that he had made his view perfectly clear, the buck then gathered up his wits and sprung into the forest, in what could only be a perfect example of the Cerynei's fleet-footed and graceful manner.
