Durriyah pouted when she was scolded by Kasim, but did as she was told. There would be a time later for this - she just didn't understand how he could think at all with so much going on around him!
She swallowed heavily when he mentioned the fate that would bestow them if they were caught. She didn't want to believe it! Her own father wouldn't kill her, surely... would he?
But regardless of her life, she looked over to Kasim and frowned, knowing that even if she was spared, there was little chance for this vagabond. She had heard that thieves who had stolen far less has been slaughtered for their crimes - an unpleasant truth that she always heard about but never really understood before she let herself get to know Kasim. It wasn't as black and white as she had believed, sitting pretty, clean, and comfortable in her honeyed coral.
"What do you think its like out there?" she ventured. "Across the sea?"

"I... have heard stories from travelers, or read scholars... but I do not know how much truth there is to them. Some say that it is months by the sea to even find more land... that it is one great oasis of trees and rivers. Some say there are fierce natives that live there, that eat the flesh of man and horse alike... others say that it has seas of grass as vast as our deserts."
Kasim shrugged his shoulders. "But... these are stories."

She pawed the ground, unsure of what to think or what to do. The whole weight of the situation was beginning to weigh on her, and she didn't like the idea of having to stay here and look constantly over her shoulder. To risk losing her life...or Kasim's.
"Well," she said, softly. "You've been out of trickier situations than this. You know the deserts, yes, but you'd be just as apt anywhere. I think so, at least."

Kasim nodded. "I do not see how a resourcefulness could not lend itself elsewhere." His dashing smile returned for a moment, and she could feel the stallion's confidence ebbing back. "I have a useful skillset. If you are willing to completely leave this life behind... I would be ready to start a new adventure with you by my side."

His question was a serious one, and Durriyah pawed at the ground and chewed her lip. To be honest, she was terrified of leaving; the perfumed corral she had grown up in was literally everything she had ever known. And it was great - comfortable, sweet smelling...everyone treated her with kindness and a gentle hand...
...but...
... she had grown so bored. She would hear stories of these grand adventures! Danger! Excitement! Treasure! Well, that's probably what intrigued her so about Kasim. It was a way for her to come so close to these stories - but now? Now she could actually be a part of them! She could be the adventurer! Facing brave new worlds, discovered exotic locations and be the mysterious, beautiful mare in the stories others told their children.
Her confidence building, gaining synergy with Kasim's, she held her head high and gave him a definitive nod. "I... I want to."
A blush suddenly overcame her pale features. "...with you."

For a moment, the entire bustle and hustle of the city faded into nothing. Durriyah was all that there was. The perfect blend of earnest and softness of her eyes. The... trust. It made his heart stop. He had never had anyone in his life like that.
For him, the daring life had been from necessity. Stealing so he could eat, running so he could live and avoid capture or death. Hiding himself so that no one would see his demonic features. But this adventure. This... was something else - the promise of hope, a new life, a new world.
He smiled, as the world seemed to speed back up to normal. "We'll do it." His mind was already going through the logistics of how - how he'd pay for boarding on a ship, where they would go - what men he knew would look the other way and not ask questions about a last minute embarking.
They would be together - NOT in hiding, not on the run, but find their own way in a new land.
