"I dunno... new trainees usually ask about Halloween or missions or why there's so many near death experiences. But whatever. That was easier to answer, so it works." Awkward, but easy.
The other hunter's excitable and honest enthusiasm had Otto leaning backward slightly, unsure of how to handle it. "I guess if it helped you, it was relavent enough."

Al sniffed and tried to dial it back just a bit, "But who wants to think about dying like that? Those people are dumb."

"Yeah. They are dumb." Everyone is dumb! "I mean, why bother fussin' over it now? When it happens, deal with it then. I got way more stuff I'd rather concentrate on than what might happen." He boasted with a light wave of his hand, slipping the other i his pocket.

"Exactly," Al agreed exuberantly. "Ahm new so pretty much. I should be asking questions about living; not dying right? I mean, I intend to live after all. Oh oh, uh. That reminds me, where are the showers?"

"Well good. You can't do nothin' for nobody if you're dead. So yeah, focus on how to live. Good plan." Albeit some deadly fights were never about choice anyway, but the illusion of survival was necessary to maintain hope. "Oh. They're right near the dorms. At the end of the hallway on the first floor of that building. Like, pretty well stuck with communal bathrooms and showers until you're out of trainee status."

"A lot of missions and training. Spar a lot, follow orders." Otto replied with his arms crossed. "It'll take months. Maybe more."
Heck, some people he knew he'd already surpassed.

"Shiiit that is a lot but I will do it! All of it!" He gave a fist pump. "I refuse to be a weak little trainee longer than I have to."

This guy had a lot of energy. It was baffling, really. Maybe annoying. Maybe a little. "Well.. good, I guess. One thing that won't get you anywhere is whining about s**t. So yeah.. good attitude." As if Otto was a proper judge of attitudes.
Otto became thoughtful for a moment as he tried to recollect what he would have liked to know as a trainee. However, he found the best methods of learning were best found within experience, trial and error.
"Oh.. one word of advice, speakin' from experience." He leveled an icy gaze up at the trainee. "If ya got questions or complaints? Never go to Caelius. Anyone on the God-damned planet but him."
"He's our Division Lead but he ain't there to help you or hold yer hand. M'pretty sure we're all lower than ants to him."

Al's eyes widened at the mention of Caelius and who he was and even wider at what he did. "Ohhh... what does he look like? I mean like, so I know who to avoid."

"He's like.. yay tall?" Otto waved a hand over his head generically, since most everyone was taller than him anyway. "Black hair, blue eyes, glasses. A floating eyeball usually follows him around. He's got a nasty a** look on his face, and he's mean as all Hell."

Al nodded along making a mental note of Otto's description of Cael. Honestly though, his mind was imagining something quite different from what Otto was intending... something old and wrinkled and angry at all the youngins. Possibly with a stick they hit everyone with.
"Thanks man, I'll avoid that guy too."

"Ya can't avoid him all the time. He heads most of the missions. Just don't get in his way." Otto shrugged, "If that's all, then I'm gunna head back to my room." Otto being the way he was, wasn't in the mood for social chatter. "Anythin' else?"

"Well... one thing," Al smiled and suddenly his eyes seemed to sparkle that much more than usual. "Will you be my friend?"

"No."
