Gale's scowl was a familiar one, probably one that Candace could tell stories about every time she gave him a hug or kissed his cheek or ruffled his hair. But Nevada was just teasing, and he rolled his eyes, letting out a little sigh. "She would say that, wouldn't she," he muttered, though there was an affectionate note to his voice.
He tried to shrug off thinking about Leslie, but once the memories started, it was hard to put the dam back up again. His mind fluttered with images - his sister smiling shyly at him, holding up one of her toys - Leslie crying because she'd had another nightmare, and Gale trying to tell her that it was all right, that he'd protect her because he was the boy and she was the girl and that was how things were supposed to be - Leslie grabbing onto the hem of his shirt and following him around when they were children -
He shook his head, just a little, trying to clear it, almost missing as Nevada's arms wrapped around him. Slightly startled, he stiffened a little almost automatically, unused to the physical contact, but after a moment he relaxed a little, his face coloring.
"My twin sister and I both were recruited," said Gale. "But I woke up and she didn't. And I don't expect her to, so I've...moved on. I've let go. It's over and done with."
There was a slight tightness to his voice that eased a little at Nevada's offer. "Thanks," he said quietly, and then said, with some exasperation, "It seems all my 'family' here on the island can be that way, so I suppose it's all right."

"Indeed she would! Pretty sure though I'm almost as old as her." At least Nevada thought so...she might've been a couple of years younger.
She may have scooted closer as she held him, listening to his explanation of what happened. How terrible to know that you'd go through the trials with your sister and to wake up while she stayed in the pod.
She didn't think she could live if Alaska and her had the same problem.
"I'm sorry to have broughten it up." She smiled again, "Don't worry, I will only have some moments...otherwise I am too lazy to do such things." She winked before letting go and standing up, holding her hand out to him. "Do you want to come to our room and watch some Disney movies? It sounds like it would be fun..." She continued to smile, urging the boy to take her hand. "You can see Stormy tear up everytime Stitch walks away with the little ugly duckling book..." Nevada's softened a bit, "It's just the cutest thing..."
