"Hah! Low blow, man. Low blow!" Auden grinned and shook his head, starting to trot around the field. "They'll take one look at you and all want to stay with me!"

"As though you could handle two mares at once!"

He laughed and shook his head as he ducked back into the woods. The cool air under the trees felt nice on his back. He spent so long in these woods that sometimes he forgot just how much warmer it was in the direct sunlight. So Auden wanted to leave their comfortable little home in the woods, eh? It was difficult to blame him. Still, he hoped his brother's whims wouldn't carry them too far away.
For now though he just wanted to finish hollowing out the log. He was hoping to build a series of drums through out the forest which could be used to communicate while they were apart. There had been a few attempts, the current one he was working on was the most promising by far. Once it was ready and stable he would need to seek out a trader with access to good hides. The method of securing the hides to the trunk was still a problem, but it would be difficult to experiment with it until after he had what he needed. One thing at a time, after all. If he realized there was yet another item missing then at least Auden would appreciate the travel.
He sighed as he approached the stump. Oh, Auden. What was there to do about that boy? Some days he seemed hell bent on going against anything Jase said, but he always went along with him in the end. Perhaps he was just a bit slow to understand how Jase always had his best interests at heart. Yeah, that had to be it.

It wasn't that Auden didn't understand that Jase had his best interests at heart. He understood that all too well. But that didn't mean that he didn't find it stifling. Jase was always telling him what to do and never letting him have any fun on his own.
He had been so young when Chane had disappeared. He could barely remember him. He only knew his brother was gone and he hadn't seen him since. He knew why Jase was so protective. They were all each other had. He didn't want to cause his brother any more grief, but he couldn't live like this. He needed his freedom.
Tired of running around the field, he went to look for his brother. He was probably doing one of his weird things again. He ducked under the cover of the woods, looking for him.

Jase sighed then took a step back, it was nearly done. The sides were thin, but still strong. So long as he didn’t fail the next few blows he would be able to leave and start looking for a tanner who carried an appropriate leather. Unfortunately the next few blows needed to be applied to the lower right side of the base, one of the weakest spots in the drum. It, however, was the lowest point and where water would pool if it managed to get into the drum. Really, he preferred to risk the drum now, then to deal with figuring out drainage after it was all set up. He took a deep breath, then stepped forward to tap the side with one hoof. Get the stone lined up, get the angle right, then make the hit. He took a deep breath. He didn’t hear his brother coming up the path behind him.

Auden jogged along the path, amusing himself with the patterns the dappled sunlight was making as it came through the foliage above. He told himself little stories about them to entertain himself as looked for his brother.
He could hear a banging noise not far ahead. That was likely Jase. He was always doing weird things. Auden never really understood why he did things likethat. Even when Jase explained them, he never really saw the point. Still, they made his brother happy, so he didn't complain.
And just like that, he was right and Jase was up ahead. Auden smiled a bit and jogged a bit faster. "Jase! Hey! What're you doing?"
