"Grandpa used to make his coffee thick as sludge and make me drink it once. Never not put a truck load of sugar in coffee he gave me since." Not that he had much to base it off of, Quinn based his whole opinion on the drink on what he was given at home.
Taking the sugar, he dumped a few good spoonfuls into the cup. Testing it, he winced at the familiar burned aftertaste. Not as strong but, still present. Reminded him briefly of home...
Though that thought was cut off as he listened to Jordan speak about the divisions. Nodding here and there to confirm he was still listening, he waited until he was finished speaking. "Its like any form of politics really form the way it sounds. Though it seemed everyone worked well together on the ship?"
"Im guessing your sun, then?" He had followed him in here and caught a glimpse of the back of Jordans coat on the way. Which lead him to another question. "Does the detail on the coats give hint to ranks here? I noticed a lot of different colors, and variations, but there were similarities as well."

Quinn got a narrow-eyed, suspicious look. "I bet you've never had good coffee," Jordan said. "This stuff is absolute crap, I only drink it because I'm an addict, but I keep good coffee for my own use and that of my friends. If all you've had is burnt sludge, you should really try some fresh, well-made coffee."
"Yeah, on missions most of us can set aside the off-duty stuff and work as a unit. It's what happens when you're here that you have to look out for. Sometimes there's less cooperation that you really need." He paused for another sip of coffee. "Again, I gotta say that I'm not in Life, so I only know these things secondhand. Sun and Moon are tighter, but when I go looking for information, half the time I get a shocked look and Why do you want to know, you're a Sun?" He shrugged, but his expression held a note of dissatisfaction.
He nodded in response to Quinn's other question. "I'm Sun," he said, obvious pride in his voice. "Coats display your division and rank, and most people get theirs personalized, especially when you've got your full Hunter coat. Yours is the basic trainee coat, white and gold only. When you're promoted to intermediate, you'll get a new coat with bars of your scarf color at the hems and cuffs; once you're promoted again to hunter, your coat gets a color fade from the bottom up and the sleeves. You can get a little more personalization in the decorative elements then too." He pulled the tails of the coat he wore around to show Quinn that there was a semi-abstract design worked into the sun symbol on the back. "Any fancier than this or any more color on the coat and you're probably looking at a division assistant or lead, so be polite."

"Theres a such thing as GOOD coffee?" He frowned, eyebrows pressed together, staring at the other man with a curious look. In his eyes there was no such thing as 'good coffee'. He only was growing used to the taste because how often he was forced to chug the sludge back home. Even now, the smell inside the cup of the burnt liquid was making him lose any apatite he had.
"...Just because your sun? What?" Quinn was a firm believer in knowledge was power, and information was included in that category. "Seems wrong, i mean if your in the front lines its best to know what your getting in to right?" It was better left unsaid that Quinn assumed the Suns had the highest fatality rate. First in line meant first attacked. It would be better if they knew about there enemies and knew what to look for, yes?
He nodded a little more, taking a second to glance at both his coat and then at Jordans. His coat seemed a little large for him, but maybe he liked it loose yeah? "There are so many people here, is this the only location for hunters? How come the outside world doesnt know about this place? I mean its kind of large to be so hidden..."

"You've never had good coffee," Jordan said, nodding. "This stuff is burned from sitting on the hot plate too long and it was probably made with stale, cheap grounds anyway. Right. You should try some fresh with good quality coffee sometime." He gestured with his mug at Quinn, his expression and enthusiasm suggesting that Quinn wasn't getting out of this suggestion.
At the question, he shrugged. "We get some information, but Sun Division gets regarded as the jocks and muscleheads. Which isn't always wrong," he added, amusement sneaking into his tone. "The reputation means that other divisions don't necessarily go out of their way to share more esoteric information."
"This is our central location," he said. "We have bases and locations all over the world, but the island is home. We're actually in the Bermuda Triangle, and the island is protected and hidden by magic. You've heard of Excalibur - he's real, and he's here. He's a weapon like yours or mine, though much more powerful; if I understand right, he may have been the first weapon. He generates a protective field that helps keep us safe and hidden."

Fortunately for Jordan, Quinn was not one who could ignore a request. Or hell, a demand really.
He was about to open his mouth, but he soon felt his jaw drop.
No sound came from his mouth at first, he just stared.
".....W-wait."
A pause.
".....KingArthurandtheKnightsofRoundareREAL?" The words were mushed together, quick, as he stared with a dumbstruck expression at the older hunter.

"A lot of the myths you're familiar with have some basis in reality. Or reality has some basis in myth, the line's kind of fuzzy sometimes, since the creatures we fight are generated from human emotion and the subconscious," Jordan explained. "As Hunters, we deal mostly with Fear creatures. There are others, but the shadows you used to see, those were creatures of Halloween."

"Okay okay but, hold up, one second. Let me... absorb this for a moment. " A small pause once more, a little longer than the one prior. " .... I expected werewolfs, witches, monsters, etcetera, in general sure. Really all of us have been seeing things out of the corners of our eyes since we were kids...
"....But i never thought really about the tales of King Arthur. I guess thats a fault on my side. I guess i was really thinking of all the nasty stories out there. Is merlin real then too? Morgan le fey? Well i guess shes real... if the others are why not?"
He was looking away the entire time, mostly at the ceiling, during his little rant. WHen he looked around at Jordan once more, Suddenly he looked really sheepish. "Wow... i kind of freaked there for a second didn't I."

Jordan sipped his coffee, waiting politely for Quinn to process the idea he'd just been presented with. A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
"Merlin's certainly real," he said. "He's also a weapon and also on the island; he's most definitely not friendly to humans, though. Excalibur keeps him in check." He paused. "That's right; you haven't had the orientation at all, have you? Do you know what the weapons are?"
"Don't worry about it," he answered. "It's a lot to take in at once."

He opened his mouth once, before closing it again. Was that a small flush on his face? "I was tossed onto the ship without being told much of anything." He said a moment later, shrugging off the embarrassment. Or he tried to make it look that way anyways. Deep down he felt a small pang of anxiety, which was not being helped at all by Oki who was currently laughing at him too. "I feel like there has to be a manual around here somewhere with all this. Or maybe there needs to be one written. Deus for Dummies."

"The ship?" Jordan's eyebrows arched.
"I don't think there's been a weapons orientation given recently. Mm. Maybe I'll check in with Allan about that." He sipped from his mug thoughtfully, though not without a small grimace over the burned taste. "Anyway. Our weapons were creatures of Halloween, converted to the forms they currently are in by runic technology. Yours will probably tell you what they used to be if you ask." He held up his right hand so that Quinn could see the heavy ring set with a faintly glowing red stone on his index finger. "This is Ferros; he was an iron dragon."
He paused. "Has your weapon or anyone else told you about the Fear shield or charges?"

There was that term again, Runic. It seemed a lot of things around here were powered by this runic thing, he would need to make sure to ask around about what it was in more depth. Without realizing it Quinn had reached out with his unoccupied hand and grabbed his necklace. It required pulling it out of his shirt, but hidden away at the end of the long silver chain was a decently sized teardrop shaped aqua stone. Oki is this true? Might i ask what you used to be?
The answer came more in feeling than words. Oki was a creature whom expressed themselves more with action than speech, and he did not fail this time. Quinns eyes unfocused as he felt the beasts attention turn towards him, and felt once more like prey than master under that mental gaze. There was a distinct feeling of water oddly, and did he just smell....salt? Ahklut. The word rang in his mind. "....Ahklut." He said a moment later, blinking as his eyes refocused on Jordan. "This is Oki.. and he is an Ahklut."
He paused. "Huh. Maybe thats why he chose me." He mused more to himself, realizing something. He shook his head at the following question too. "No, Oki doesn't...really speak much."

Jordan watched the abstracted expression cross Quinn's face as he listened to his weapon. He didn't seem to be disturbed or bothered by the communication, even if it was distracting. "Nice to meet you," he said politely to the weapon. He had no idea what an Ahklut was, and a quick thought to Ferros told him that the dragon was equally puzzled; it must not be a common creature type. He'd look it up later. He nodded. "Are you adjusting all right? It may take a little while to get used to sharing." He tapped the side of his head to clarify what he meant. At the news that nobody had told Quinn about shield or charges, he shook his head a little and turned to put his coffee cup into the sink. "Is there anywhere you're supposed to be right now? I can give you the rundown, but a demonstration would help, and for that we should go out to the training fields."

Even though he was pretty sure the other hunter could not sense it, Quinn felt as if oki had given the other a nod in greeting too.
Wait.
"....They can hear other people too?" Quinns gaze snapped back towards the heavy ring on Jordans finger and hovered there briefly "Ohman! Imsorry! Gran would have kicked me if she knew. I-Its a pleasure to meet you too, Ferros!" Well that was a bad first impression wasn't it? The newbie alert sign must be going off in all their heads right about now.
"And honestly Oki is not much of a talker, he says more with... feelings? Senses? Its odd really i cant explain it. I think it will take a while to get used to." Possibly a little longer to learn how to interpret it too, he shifted a little uncomfortably.
"I finished what i was working on for today right before we met so, i am free right now." Not like he had anything else better to do really? The added bonus would be seeing some of the things Jordan was talking about; Quinn could not deny he was curious. Though oddly, part of him was wary... hmm.

"They use our senses, so anything you can see, hear, feel, etcetera, he can too. Not everyone introduces their weapons or talks to other people's weapons, it's an individual thing, but I feel like I'm being rude if I talk about them like they can't hear." Jordan chuckled. "Ferros says thanks. He and I talk less than we did when we first bonded. The bond gets deeper over time, and you'll both get stronger as a result. We sort of think together at this point, so I think I might have an idea of what you're talking about."
He grinned at the assurance. "Let's go on out, then. I can give you the primer." He headed for the door. As they walked, he explained, "Weapons are made of Fear, which is an emotional energy that humans generate. Fear is also what Halloween's creatures and their world itself are made of and what they feed on. When you bonded with Oki, his Fear was linked to your body; when you fight, he'll instinctively generate a field of that energy to protect you. That's your Fear shield, and it keeps you from sustaining any serious injury until the shield breaks. Someone swings a sword or a set of claws at you, the edge will pass through without actually slicing you. It's still going to hurt some, but you're now a lot more resistant to damage than a normal human. You're also going to heal from injury or illness a lot faster."

He followed after Jordan, pausing only briefly to put the halfway finished cup of coffee in the trash can.
He listened as they walked, trusting Jordan to lead the way to the training fields. "....So basically the only impossible way to ever rid ourselves of halloween would be to tell every person on earth to stop being afraid." Fat Chance at that. "but then again if that happened we would be out of a job too huh?" Halloween and Hunters needed each other as much as they didnt seem to like each other. Hm.
"...This shield thing though, im guessing instead of say a cut it still leaves a bruise?" That was still damn cool though. He was wondering why the people fighting the monster on the cruise ship had not taken as much damage as he assumed they should. That explained a lot. "Im guessing your fear shield also grows stronger as the bond does?"
