Akubi had nothing to say in response to the fish or the freshness of them. There was just some things that an 'indoor' demoncat could desire on the outside. He was perfectly content with fish bought in cans or on ice at the market.
He was happy sleeping various beds of rooms he could get into or in the sunny spots on campus.
She'd dragged him out of his element and he'd gone along with her simply because...He cared about her on some level. Cared enough to let her talk him into this despite his sense of foreboding and so when he followed along he did have a small complaint, "I already miss my bed," his ears flattened a bit.

Riyo glanced back at the boil with perked ears, though she did not stop her ascent up the trail. "Well, I brought two sleeping bags. They look pretty cushioney, so maybe it won't be much different." Riyo? Being an optimist? More likely than you'd think. At least, in this particular situation.
Things, however, were about to take quite the turn.
It had to have been about 30 minutes worth of walking before the ghoul immediately halted and dropped her pack. There was a beautiful break in the brush and foliage right next to the stream. Overhead, there was a patch of untouched sky that would be perfect for looking at the stars, and directly in front, an overlook where one could see the sunrise. If there existed a more perfect campsite, Riyo didn't want to know. "See? Look at how pretty everything is." A small, satisfied smile cracked through her usually stoic appearance, halfheartedly digging to retrieve the tent as her eyes scanned the area. She pulled it out and dumped the contents of the bag onto the ground before finally looking down at it.
Huh. Odd. Seemed a little small. Well, it would probably be bigger once it was set up.

Where was Riyo? Who was this imposter? What is going on here? Her optimism just solidified Akubi's feelings of impending doom. Why you do this? The boil shifted his shoulders into a shrug. Sure. Whatever you say, ghoul. Whatever. You. Say.
Akubi almost bumped into Riyo when she suddenly stopped during their traversing to their location. He stopped and walked back a couple of feet and started to fiddle with the end of his noose, "Yes. It looks very nice, Riyo." He replied.
He wanted to be optimistic and happy about this, but he was out of his element of luxury and comfort and....
Everything is terrible.
If he didn't like her so much he probably wouldn't be risking his own comfort at this moment. Auntie would be proud of him, right? He was out trying new things. These things managed to get him to put on a ghost of his usual grin on his face.

Riyo glanced back at Akubi's noncommittal response, knowing full well that he hadn't wanted to venture out of captivity, but still somehow surprised that he wasn't his usual happy go lucky self. Did she regret bringing him out here?
Not yet.
The ghoul opened her mouth to perhaps suggest the boil gather rocks for a campfire later, but considering how unhappy he must've been already, perhaps it would be better to do everything herself.
"I got this tent for a steal." Se decided to muse instead, grabbing the tent poles and feeding them through. After reading the manual, tent science wasn't difficult.
Realizing that the tent was fully up and half the size it should've been wasn't.
"... Uh." Riyo shook the bag again with hopes there were extra parts , and when she realized this was it, her face became pale. The tent pictured on the bag was cozy enough to host two plus a coffee table in between. This one... Well, if you didn't know the other person very well before, you were going to.
"... I've made a grave mistake."

Guess who's trip just got better?
Not his.
"You got it for a steal alright, they stole your money." Akubi said dryly. He did little things to help like offer her tools or hold things down here and there. It wasn't like he stood to the side like a disinterested asshat.
As much as he would have liked to, but he was trying to get into the spirit of camping. Trying.
The spirit was just not in him it seemed.
"..I can either sleep in cat form or outside of the tent, if that makes you happiest," there were clouds rolling in over head. Dark heavy clouds. Akubi was starting to rethink the whole sleeping outside of the tent offer.

Riyo looked back to shoot Akubi a glare, but only ended up perplexed when he offered to sleep outside. Even after all this, he would do what she asked of him?
The ghoul started to shuffle through her bag again. "No. Neither of those will do." One sleeping bag was promptly tossed inside the tent, the other outside next to it. Either she hadn't noticed the looming clouds or was bound and determined to believe what the weather had told her.
"I'll sleep outside. It was my decision to come camping, and my naivety that kept me from checking the tent before I bought it." And she knew how little he had wanted to be here. Even if Riyo was as vindictive as she wanted to be sometimes, it wouldn't have been possible to sentence the boil to more trouble.
"But if you want, you can start a fire while I catch dinner." she'd got a fishing pole for just such an occasion. Never mind the fact that it was duct taped in at least three places...

Akubi wasn't a cruel enough of a b*****d (at least not to Riyo) to agree to what she had just proposed. He wasn't going to just sit outside of a tent while it stormed and so he pointedly looked up at the sky for a long moment and suddenly took off his pin and simply said, "No," after he suddenly took on his cat form.
"No. You will sleep in the tent. I will sleep in the tent. We will both sleep in the tent together. You paid for the damn thing, why would you sleep outside of it?" Akubi was being a little bit of a grumpy puss at this point but he learned that with Riyo? He had to be firm.
"If you try to sleep outside I will sleep outside with you," cat eyes now narrowed up at her.
He wasn't going to let her win this one at all.

"Y-you can't build a fire in cat form!" At least.. She didn't think he could? Not that it really would've mattered anyways. Riyo's ears perked and swiveled at the sound of thunder, the fur on her tail standing up on end.
Oh.
Well.
Even in cat form, Riyo looked... Apprehensive at the idea of sharing such a tiny tent. "B-because..." Her fingers tapped together. "I just..." Uh... UHHH. Nope. She just couldn't admit that the concept of being so close for so long made her nervous. It sounded so... Stupid! So irrational. She figured it would be a great first step just to be in the general vicinity but this was... This was a complete 3 levels above what she was comfortable with.
"WELL OKAY HOW ABOUT I GO CATCH US SOME FISH REAL FAST?" She made an attempt to scamper off before he could answer with fishing line and rod in hand.
Though she wouldn't admit out loud, Riyo admired his willingness to stand up to her. It was a refreshing change from the submissive behavior she got from other catty males.

He let her scamper off because he felt he made his point, along with the weather. Akubi took his humanoid form and went about getting bits of wood and things together and then he proceeded to kind of crouch in front of the pile and stare at it.
A good question might have been how does one set a fire?
The stub of his tail twitched side to side as he stared at the pile as if to coax it into making a fire spark.
So far it didn't work.
He remembered something about rubbing sticks together but he wasn't certain how the hell that was supposed to work.

Meanwhile, Riyo had found a nice rock on the bank of the river to sit on while she fished. It didn't take her long to figure out how she fed the reel and pulled it through the loops on the rod. All that was left was the hook. The knot had been difficult to tie at first... But she had it. All the worms the feline had bought had been on discount because, well... they were dead. Which was okay, right? Fish would still eat dead worms. She still ate dead fish, so it made sense.
The line was tossed, and she sat patiently with the rod in her hands, letting out a large sigh.
It was a little depressing. Seemed that every effort she made met with some huge complication.
And just as that thought crossed her mind, the rod bobbed.
"Hey! I got one!" She yelled in surprise and yanked at the rod...
Only to have it snap in 3 places and fly into the river.
Oh.
W-well. That was okay! She was a cat. Cats caught fish all by themselves. Riyo crouched right beside the rock's edge, her clawed hands floating still just above the water. The plan was to snatch a fish out of the water as it floated under, but... It didn't quite happen that way. With her face as close to the water as it was, a fish managed to swim up from straight ahead, jump, and smack her in the face. FISHSLAP!
Akubi could probably hear a shout and a loud splash from back at camp.

Akubi was in the process of staring at the makings of a fire before he tried the trick of rubbing the sticks together. Each time the stick either broke in half or was too damp to really do anything with it and his search for matches amongst all of Riyo's gathering of camping gear proved to be fruitless for him.
The camp now looked as if a tornado had hit it.
He tried and retried tricks and things he'd seen on skelevision and other sources but no matter what he just couldn't get it to work and in the end he only had a splinter in his index finger for all of his hard work.
The yells caught his attention and he was soon making his way over to where he heard her, "Riyo? Are the fish drowning you?"

Little bubbles emanated from the surface of the water before a gasping cat ghoul emerged, her hair practically covering her eyes. After her head resurfaced, so too did her hand. She had managed to catch a fish. It wasn't a big fish, but it was still edible. "I GOT ONE." She yelled, a buildup of water flowing from her mouth as she spoke.
And as she made her way towards the shore, another discovery was made.
There was one on her tail.
Riyo practically tossed the fish in her hands up to Akubi as she flailed and tried to remove the other fish. "OUCH OUCH OUCH OUCH!" Pop! Off came the fish... And a little bit of her tail fur.
"... I'm going to take great joys in eating you." The ghoul hissed as she finally stepped back up onto solid ground.
"So uh... Did you manage to start a fire?" Riyo finally asked Akubi hopefully.

He was amused upon sighting her for a few seconds and then she had to go and ask him about his progress on the fire starting and the amusement drained out of him like water out of a leaky dam.
Akubi's ears drooped and his shoulders sagged a bit, "No. I did not manage the feat you wanted me to achieve," he responded dryly. "I think you should have taken someone much more capable than me, to be quite honest with you."
Yes. He knew it was not plausible since there was currently a prom going on, but still. He felt useless to her at this point. While he usually thrived off of the misery of others this wasn't doing it for him - probably because he was miserable as well right now.
"Maybe you can assist me and we can figure out where I went wrong?" Akubi asked trying to get a hopeful tone to his voice and then added "I .. sort of made a mess of the camp trying to see if there were any matches so..."

Riyo frowned when his mood suddenly soured at her question. "I didn't want to bring someone more capable. I wanted to bring you." The feline sighed, not quite realizing how sweet it might have sounded. "I'm a novice too. I didn't want someone more knowledgeable in this stuff showing off and telling me how it's supposed to be done. I wanted an even playing field."
She would've given him a pat on the shoulder had her hands not been full of fish. "Here. You take these and I'll see if we can't get a fire started."
And then she got back to the camp and noticed her things were strewn about.
Damn son.
"Uh... Was this necessary?"

Akubi at least seemed a little happier when Riyo told him that she had wanted to bring him, but that didn't seem to alleviate his doom and gloom immediately. If she had brought some other sucker and told him the story about it, he'd have enjoyed this trip immensely.
"Fair enough," he said quietly and just sort of took the fish from her without much complaint. It was fish and it was going to be in his belly soon and when they made it back to the camping site he had the grace to look a little bit sheepish. "At least I put effort into trying everything instead of doing what I usually do," he said to his own defense.
He was certain she knew exactly his usual route of behavior, which was taking a nap and waiting for the problem to resolve itself somehow.
"I .. at least didn't drag your unmentionables out into the light of day."
