Rankled, Firestrom shook his hoof away from the niceties of the vixen. He didn't want sympathy.
It pained him to say it, but "Their herd is too big for my family to take on. I learned that the hard way. I don't think father would hesitate to kill me if I failed again. And who the hell would help me? Some weak groundling?" he sneered. "Who else would Balrog have pissed off?"

Kumiho backed away a bit, realizing he was more irritated by the fluffy-pet-in-distress act than sympathetic, but at least he was listening and angry; angry enough to take action. She tapped her chin with one of her vulpine claws, thinking. One of her first daughters, Teumesia, had made a home with a aggressive and interesting lot... if Firestorm could silver up his tongue a bit, they would be a formidable opponent to the overcocky Thunderbirds.
"There's a herd west of here, before the swamp and adjacent to an old Kawani burial ground. They are led by a very strange creature... violent, and deadly. They have amoung their rank some of the most intimidating Soquili I've come across. Parts of them move like shadow, and walk on the feet of wolves. They protest their land quite aggressively as well, and their land is so close to the mountain, I would be very surprised if they haven't had their own run-ins with those winged bullies. It would take a bit of finesse, but maybe you might learn a thing or two about them? See if they have any reason to join with you?"

One ear swiveled back toward the fox consideringly. "Hn." He paused, thinking. He had heard of the herd. More than heard of, his mate, Shinoma... she came from there, didn't she? The mistiness to her was from that secretive herd in the tangled woods.
Firestorm had never met them, but it was an option he had never considered before.
He was silent for a time before looking back to the small animal. "I have heard of them. My mate... I believe her father is one of them." It was an in. He had had a falling out with his own family. Maybe it was time for a new one.
"I will consider this, fox." He eyed her injured tail. "Consider your debt paid with your idea."
He had never mentioned any kind of payment or debt before.

Kumiho repressed a sneer at his assumption that he owed her anything. He was actually getting the better deal here; not only allowing him to live but actually helping him. But for now, she kept up the charade. "Thank you so much," she said, bowing her vulpine head. "I wish you the best of luck, my friend. You certainly deserve to get your rightful herdlands back!"
Growing tired of playing the sniveling, helpless critter, she decided she would use this cue to take her leave. "I won't forget you!" she called behind her as she slipped back into the underbrush. No, indeed she would definitely have to keep an ear out in these developments...
