The child perked up as soon as she heard a hint of humming nearby. "Oooo, you have a nice figure!" the child said in a manner far too cheery for such a typically sensitive subject. Slipping past the beaded curtain once more, letting the beads slide across her skin, she once more trotted ahead, leading the way. The appointment was already paid for, so there was no way she could convince her Mom to let her work on the makeup.
However, that didn't mean the child wasn't going to sit and watch.
"MOOOOOOM!!! CAIT IS READY!!!"
The child paused every so often, glancing back to make sure Cait was following her. They made their way past the waiting area and past the record-adorned living room into an area just a smidge past it.
A dark hardwood table with a matching tall chair were set up. Upon the table, many different types of makeup were spread out, ready to be used at a moment's notice. Carolynn was pulling from her makeup collection still, placing several sets of eyeshadow out.
"Welcome back!" she said in a chipper tone before pausing long enough to pat the base of the chair. "Go ahead and take a seat Cait and we can get started!"

"Thanks!" Cait said, grinning a little. She followed the young girl, a lot of her self-doubt brushed off. It was strange how a light compliment from a kid could at least sort of make her feel better.
She blinked at the vast array of makeup when she got there, tilting her head tot he side. A lot of it was patently unfamiliar to her - she wasn't a makeup-wearer, generally, so this was far more than she even considered. She took a seat.
"Wow, I hope you don't expect me to have suggestions, because all of this is way beyond me," she laughed, her tone playful. This was absolutely going to be an interesting time.

Once Cait was seated, someone else seemed to follow her lead. Her pair of oddly colored eyes darted about, looking for the tallest seat she could. Once the child seemed to locate a wooden stool, she picked it up and hauled it close to where Cait was seated.
With an easy smile and a giggle, she mentioned "First row seat!"
With a pat on the head, the girl's mother replied to what the client had actually said. "Don't worry yourself Cait! Pin Up makeup is actually very particular... a very specific formula in all honesty. The idea is to exaggerate your features so they are visible. Bright lips, large gorgeous eyes, and even larger, more gorgeous eyelashes." Meandering towards the multiple makeups set out, the woman picked up an application sponge and then some concealer. Making her way back she held it out next to Cait's cheek.
"If you couldn't tell, Mystery is very interested in this style of makeup."
"It's beautimous*! How could I not love it?!" She put both hands up to her cheeks and batted her eyelashes in an attempted coy manner.
The photographer and current makeup artist chuckled before dabbing the sponge into the concealer, then touching the girl's cheek with it. She had a good eye for color it seemed, for after a moment or two of looking over the spot, she soon enough started to seemingly paint the client's face to even out the color of her skin. "She'll be watching, since she is still learning."
Mystery giggled again, but then she moved onto the fun part of it all. Chit-chat!
"Are you in college? Or are you still in high school? I can't really tell... I mean, I am pretty sure you're 18... but are you a high school 18 or a college 18?"

Cait laughed. Mystery's enthusiasm was practically bubbling over, and she had to like that in a person. "Alright, soulds like this'll be interesting," she said. She barely wore makeup usually - pinup makeup would be quite the adventure for her.
She tried to stay as still as she could while answering Mystery's questions. "The just-graduated-high-school kind," she replied. "I'm starting DCU in the fall." She sounded rather proud of herself, and why not? College was an accomplishment.

The momentary makeup artist chuckled a bit, noticing the way Cait restrained herself slightly in the conversation. "Don't worry about talking. If she wasn't here, I'd probably be chatting your ear off too in all honesty. I'll let you know when you need to stay still."
She made quick work out of the concealer, smoothing out the last couple sections before spinning back to her table and picking up the blush and a large puffy brush to apply it with.
"Oh, that's the rose-one, right Mom?" For a moment, the child seemed to get distracted from conversation to check out the selected colors. With a subtle nod from her mother, Mystery seemed satisfied and returned her attentions back to Cait.
While her mother dusted the girl's cheeks, the child resumed with questions. "Do you already have a declared major? Or are you planning on winging it the first couple years before figuring out what you want to do?"

"Oh, I just...didn't know if it'd mess you up," Cait said, and then she relaxed. She wasn't sure, really, how still she had to be for makeup to go on properly, and she didn't want to accidentally mess it up.
"I don't have a declared major, but I'm thinking of going into film studies? I'd really like to direct movies," Cait replied. "It's sort of a hard field to get into, though, so I might major in something a little more practical and minor in that." She unfortunately didn't really know what she was going to do with her life. Her brother was headed to culinary school, her sister into social work, and she was pretty sure even her younger siblings knew what they wanted to be.
Oh well, that was what undeclared majors were for, anyway.

"Oooooo... direct movies? Have you made anything before? Any amateur films? Any particular sort of films you like?"
Not wanting to interrupt the child's inquiries, the mother of the pair just pointed to her own face, primarily at her cheeks as she smiled wide to signal she wanted Cait to do the same thing. Rosy cheeks were a necessity when it came to these sorts of photos.

Cait did the wide smile thing, even as she answered. "Nothing big, just some messing around with friends!" She replied. "I'd like to direct thriller movies, though - not modern stuff, Hitchcock stuff." She really, really admired Alfred Hitchcock. He was a talented director, the master of suspense - and he managed it with his movies being mostly free of onscreen violence and gore.
"It's harder to do it that way, but they're better, in my opinion." She continued, managing to hold the smile the entire time.LizzyMoo HERP meant to hit preview, hit submit instead XD

With the smiling going on, Carolynn made sure to brush some rose colored dust onto Cait's cheeks, coloring them a very deep pink color. Once the woman seemed satisfied with her work on the cheeks, she set down her blush-brush and picked up a smaller applicator for more concealer.
"...if you could go ahead and close your eyes..." she mentioned before slipping in and starting to touch up the client's eyebrows a bit.
"I'm not familiar with Hitchcock's stuff... Mom won't let me watch his stuff..."
"You'll get nightmares, honey..."
"Nuh uh!!! I'm almost 12... I can handle it!!!" The child's concentration upon the task her mother was working on seemed to break as she seemed to move onto the other part.
Carolynn shook her head as she dabbed lightly across Cait's brow. "If I am remembering correctly... Hitchcock's stuff was very psychological... so... even if some of today's scary-movies and thrillers have better special effects... they don't really hold a light to the Hitchcock level of horror, right?"
Mystery's cheeks started to puff up in a sulky manner.

Cait closed her eyes as instructed, and she smiled a little. "It is pretty scary - I saw my first Hitchcock at thirteen and I had nightmares for a while," she said. Of course, it being Psycho probably ad something to do with that. It had gotten into her head successfully.
"That's exactly it, actually. It's his pacing, and editing, and writing that make the movies terrifying - it's not how much splatter there is all over the screen." There was the slightest hint of disdain in her voice at the mention of "splatter." "Special effects are great, but they get overused at the expense of plot and character development way too often. Make more things blow up, forget there needs to be a story."

Finished with the eyebrows, the photographer shifted her attentions to a pair of false eyelashes upon her table. She picked up on and a small pair of scissors, holding it out to casually measure before snipping it.
"Cait, have you ever worn fake eyelashes?"
"...Mom doesn't let me see the movies with all the explosions or the blood and guts... so it isn't like I have anything to compare it to..." The child was still frowning a bit in a pout.
"...complaining about it won't get you to watching them any sooner, Mystery..."
The child groaned.
Sensing that the conversation needed to shift subjects, Carolynn made certain to change said subject.
"So, Cait... what other things do you do for fun?"

"No, I haven't, actually!" Cait said. That was going to be a fun new experience. She felt a twinge of embarrassment. Clearly movies were a point of contention between mother and daughter.
"Uh, other things...I cosplay!" She said. "Which is actually a little like this, except usually with less makeup." She had to try not to laugh in order to avoid messing up Carolynn's work. "It's really fun. I've started doing work on sewing my own costumes, and they're not very good yet but they're coming along!"

"Fake eyelashes aren't that bad! They might be weird at first, because once they dry, they are kinda gummy until you get the eyes open again!" The child leaned in, pointing to her eyes and fluttering her eyelashes as if to show that Mystery had indeed tried them before.
The pale haired woman took her tube of eyelash glue and applied it to one of the lashes. "Cos.....play....?" It seemed to be a brand new concept, or one that Carolynn didn't understand. However, with the brief explanation that was offered, the woman's painted lips curled for a smile.
"...Could you please close your right eye and keep it closed?... I'll let you know when you can open it up."
The topic change did seem to distract the youngest of the group from the previous topic. However, it also led to an onslaught of questions.
"Costumes? So is it like Halloween? You said you sew, does that mean you sew your own clothing? What sorts of costumes do you wear? How many costumes have you made before?"
A brief pause.
"Could you make me something?"
"Mystery!" the mother scolded for how blunt her child had been.

"It's dressing up as characters from anime, or comic books, or video games, mostly...people do books too which is always cool!" Cait explained. She did as instructed and closed her right eye. "I'll have to remember this stuff next time I do a character this would look good on."
She had to force herself not to laugh at Mystery's query. Of course she'd ask. "I don't know that I'm good enough to make things for anyone else!" She admitted. "I feel bad enough about the quality of my own stuff. I've dressed up in all kinds of costumes, from poofy princess dresses all the way to boy's clothes; I've made...hmmm...three so far? Only one totally from scratch, though; I try to alter stuff. And I only really do cosplay sewing; normal clothes are easy enough to find!"

"A.... nee.... meh?" Comics and video games were familiar enough concepts, but that first phrase seemed to not fit within her comprehension.
In all honesty, Carolynn was also just as curious about that word, but she didn't say anything in favor of delicately placing the false eyelash in question upon Cait's own natural ones. With a couple small taps to make sure it stayed in place, she mentioned "You'll need to keep this shut for a bit..." With that, the woman went to gather the eyeliner and started to work on painting up the eye a bit more for a more dramatic feel.
The child seemed completely distracted now by her new query that she seemingly abandoned the rest of her questions from before in favor of the new one. Sure, she got the answers for those previous questions, but the answers weren't nearly as important now.
