Goodbyes and Legacies (WIP)

Amongst the crowd, a young boy stood back, his jaw tight as he watched those around him mourn and grieve the loss of the man in the casket at the front, trying to draw the courage to approach him himself. He had barely been forced to ask his parents permission to attend the ceremony, as they had already made plans to return to the region for the holidays anyway, and knew his great respect and admiration for the fallen hero.

But now, even so close, amidst numbers of his fellow fans, the he was unsure of what to do aside from wait. Wait until the crowds began to wane, until he would have his turn. The great stone statues that once would have intrigued him only held sorrow for now, and as he watched, even at such a young age, he couldn't believe the injustice of it all. None of this was right.

Eventually, as his parents turned to speak with someone familiar, he slipped into the larger portion of the crowds, seeking a way to just catch a glimpse of the man he had followed so loyally. He had little to offer... just an envelope, a letter written and decorated with drawings by his own hand that he hoped to leave
...a letter Dragon Champion Lance would never read.
