Alexis shrugged. "That's what the mask is for; it filters oxygen from the water, though even if I did take a breath and remove it I could hold my breath for a long time... ten or twelve minutes, I think... the last time I checked," he said with a shrug, giving her permission to bind the wound. "Besides, what good would it do to have an undersea home if I can't swim to it from the surface?" he said with a smile behind the mask; he wasn't going to reveal why he preferred his undersea home to the surface 'homes' that most humans enjoyed, unless she asked.

Aoi tilted her head slightly at the mask and what the human said it did. She didn’t know that humans had made things so they could breathe underwater, yet there were a lot of things that she had no clue of about humans. “I see. I’ll fix your shoulder up so that sharks don’t come…” she shivered as she muttered the word ‘shark’ before tending to his wounds. She bound them the best that she could, but knew and told him that he’d probably have to do something about them once he got out of the water. She figured that she would have to just wait until she saw him again because she wasn’t sure if she could follow him to his home. “Oh, by the way, my name’s Aoi.” She said before running her fingers through her hair that was floating gracefully around her face.

Alexis chuckled as she bound the wounds. "I'm Alexis, and my home actually isn't too far away, come on if you like," he said as he pressed one foot to the wall next to him before he pushed off and shot downward and away from the wall towards an undersea gorge roughly ten feet below them. He swam eight feet down into the gorge before looking up, not realizing his eyes were glowing brighter and giving away his position as he hovered next to the three foot wide tunnel that stretched roughly ten feet into a broad undersea freshwater pool that led up into a large cavern where he lived. He deliberately inhaled before removing the mask, showing his face fully to the mermaid as he hung the mask from his belt.

Aoi smiled as she heard that the man’s name was Alexis and that his home wasn’t actually very far off. She watched him diving deeper and heading for an undersea gorge. She did not know that humans could go that deep, but she didn’t question it because she knew only too well that there had to be things that she did not know being a mermaid. As she followed him she saw his eyes were glowing even brighter and this filled Aoi with curiosity, making her swim faster. She found a tunnel that she assumed Alexis had used and she followed it to a pool that led into an open cavern and she scanned around the cavern with wide eyes. She had seen underwater caverns, yet those had all been filled to the brim by water; she had never seen an open cavern underwater before. She soon noticed that Alexis had removed his mask and that his face was now showing.
Aoi looked at his face and she thought that he was rather good looking, not like the ugly descriptions that her father had given of humans to the other merfolk. She doubted that he had even seen a real human and that he was just down-talking them because he thought that he could. “This is where you live?” she asked, thinking of how she had no place to call home, though after running for so long she was used to not having anywhere to call home and she knew that asking this complete stranger if she could live with him did not seem like an option. “It’s nice.” She added as she looked around the cavern again.

Alexis pulled himself out of the water and walked over to a gourd that was half as tall as he was. "I don't have anywhere else to stay; my family's basically dead, and frankly I'm not interested in dealing with most other humans. They're deceptive by choice or by nature, and I find it dull to deal with them more than necessary," he said with a shrug as he filled two hollowed out coconuts with the milk. He had several things he was fond of, mainly a flute and guitar, as well as a hammock he usually slept in hanging in an alcove. "Besides... you're the first person that has seen this other than me... and honestly, you interest me," he said with a shrug as he walked towards her. He had ground up the meat of several mature coconuts into the watery juice, then added peach juice and sugar to it to sweeten it.
He found her lavender-blue hair interesting and a good contrast to her eyes. "Most of the things I have I've scavenged from sick or dying animals or I made by hand," he said with a shrug as he glanced up at the crystalline quartz spire that rose up through the rocks above the cavern and caught the light, sending it down into the cavern though there were several amber and sapphire spires that cast golden and pale blue light respectively through the cavern.

Watching Alexis pulling himself out of the water Aoi thought about getting out of the water too, though she kenw that she'd not get very far with her tail; so she decided to stay in the water. Listening to Alexis she heard that he prefered not to be around other humans and that he had nowhere else to stay and that he didn't have any family. This made her feel bad that he was all alone, however, she was basically alone too, since she could not go back to her home for fear of being killed for running away and going to the surface. "I think that I can understand how you feel... I have nowhere to go, well I could go back to where I came from... Though if I do then I will probably be tried and killed for running from home and going to the surface like I have a few times... Father got me out of trouble the first time, since he has a lot of money, but money can only get you so far..." she said, looking at the cieling of the cave. After a moment she realized that he had said that he found her interesting and that made her blush slightly. She had never had anyone call her interesting before, though she stayed away from most and was sheltered for the most part of her life. "You think that I'm interesting?" she asked as she looked at the coconut halves that Alexis had in his hands. She had seen coconuts before, but never knew they had anything in them. She nodded as he made mention of the things that he had were all scavanged from sick or dying animals instead of live, healthy things.

Alexis chuckled. "Of course; it isn't everyday you see a cute mermaid, and besides, there are channels and tunnels that lead to smaller caverns, a couple of which have hot spring pools, around here," he said with a shrug, flicking his head at the channels that had been worn into the floor that acted almost like a subtle slip-n-slide rather than anything else.
"Anyway, I usually only go to the surface to scavenge what I can or steal other things, usually smoked fish for meat, though I usually remain in the sea.. where I feel.... I don't know... at home, almost; I never actually felt right onshore, for some reason," he said with a shrug as he sat on the edge of the tunnel where Aoi was. There were three other openings in the cavern they were in that led into the freshwater pool and he had an alcove that led to a natural spring that provided fresh drinking water.

Listening to Alexis as he spoke made Aoi blush even more than she had been before. He thought that she was cute! This made Aoi feel kind of happy, since most of the men, well mermen, never said such things to her. Although it was probably because her father was very intimidating to the mermen and did not want them trying to court his daughter without his approval first. She followed Alexis' gaze and saw the other tunnels, curious to check them out.
"I could possibly help you out? With the food? I can get dolphins to round up the fish in a big ball at the surface and that should make it easier to catch them, if you want?" she said, offering to help Alexis out with food. She was not like some merfolk that didn't like eating fish, though she was more dolphin-like than fish-like and had no problem with eating fish, well there were certain fish she wouldn't eat, though other than that she did not mind fish as a meal.

Alexis tilted his head thoughtfully. "That could help. I am wary though that it might draw attention by some of the fishermen and possibly reveal certain people," he said thoughtfully, referring to Aoi herself. "Besides, I wouldn't want you getting hurt or worse, caught by scientists or fishermen, because of me," he said with a shrug.
He shifted his feet in the water, tilting the coconut to let her take it from him.

As she waited for w reply she looked again at the cieling of the cave. Once she finally heard Alexis speaking she came to a deep realization at his words. She should have thought of that before, but was so interested in helping him that she did not take into account the risks of getting the dolphins to help gather food. "Oh... You're right... I could have them chase them closer to here, if you think that may be a better idea? I could try asking the fish if they may come with me, though I am better with dolphins and other porpoises than I am with fish." She said, greatfully taking the coconut half from Alexis.
She sniffed the juice inside the coconut before taking a sip. The taste was a bit odd to her, though it didn't taste nasty or anything. "This is definately a lot different than anything I have ever had before, though it's pretty good. Way better than tasting salt water all day, though even that you don't taste after a while." she said jokingly.

Alexis chuckled. "Trust me, it's better to be cautious and think ahead than rush in and have something happen and end up hurt for it... it's happened to me a few times," he said as he shifted, not realizing that when he moved, one leg of his swim trunks shifted to reveal a nasty looking scar on his inner right thigh that came clearly from something with sharp teeth.
"If I could, I'd find a way to grow peaches and apples in here... though unfortunately there isn't enough light for that," he said with a chuckle. He thought the flavors would interest her of those fruits, though he personally was impartial to strawberries, apples, and pears. He was thinking of how they could get fish to come closer to them. He glanced towards a hand carved spear of bamboo that looked weathered, though he had an idea. "What if they ran them down the length of the gorge outside here? That way we could get them as they passed without showing ourselves more than necessary. I know that Gin Iruka hosts scuba divers from time to time and we don't need them seeing us," he said with a shrug.

Aoi knew that Alexis was right and that she would probably get herself killed if she rushed into things like she almost always did. "I should probably learn to think before acting... Though I wouldn't have ever gone to the surface if I would have thought about it and everything that everyone had told me about it..." she said, noticing something on Alexis' leg in her peripheral vision. When her eyes drifted to said thing she saw she gasped softly before looking away. She wasn't sure, but it looked to her like a shark bite, and she didn't even want to think that he'd been bitten. she knew of friends that had been bitten by sharks, though they weren't quite so luck to get away so easily.
She did not know what these 'fruits' were, but she thought that she'd like to try more of them. She heard it be said that they'd not grow in the cavern and she realized that not everything grew in dim light like the plant life in the ocean. "I think that I could do that. I could even get a pod of dolphins to help us. i mean if you can keep up with them they could shield us from prying eyes that don't need to see us." she suggested after hearing about chasing the fish down the length of the gorge.{{ooc: I'm going to have to get going soon. Alexis tilted his head thoughtfully. "That could work, I'm sure. I can swim quite a bit faster than some would expect possible," he said with a slight shrug. "There are times when acting quickly may do more than planning, though I can say sometimes it gets you hurt," he said with a shrug as his hand drifted to the scar; a small tiger shark had caused it, though fortunately his return strike had stunned the shark before others had attacked the shark, giving him the chance to escape.
Alexis shifted subtly, blinking as an idea came to him. He remembered one tunnel he hadn't explored yet that he had been curious about.

Aoi listened to Alexis as he told her that her plan could probably work and she grinned. She also heard it be said that he could swim a lot faster than most would expect and she wanted to see just how fast he really could swim. She loved racing dolphnis through the water and thought that racing a human would be just as fun, however, food gathering would be put before playtime.
"I think that I could find a pod of dolphins quick enough and I could try convincing them to come with us. I have heard that dolphins around the islands don't mind humans that much. Well, they don't seem to like those ones with the spears as much, though." she said as she tried thinking through her plan before just acting, even though fast acting could work better than planning.{{ooc: I am sorry that I didn't post any plot or anything with the kidnapperxkidnapped RP yesterday. I actually posted it minutes before having to leave, so I didn't actually come up with much of a plot >.> We could brainstorm if there's anything that you'd like to suggest or I could just post and we could go from there, if you did want to do that RP? _Hoshiyuri_ OOC - I'm still interested in it, though I don't mind just coming up with it as we go; I do have a character in mind, fortunately; kind of a suppressed 'artist-rebel' character. Alexis smiled slightly. "That would help. Fortunately I have a few more unusual tools I can use that would be good for hunting for food... heck, one or two large fish would last a while, not to mention the dolphins would have a chance to hunt as they please," he said thoughtfully.
