The face he made as she sugared her tea was somewhere between stricken and resigned. More so perhaps at the amoung of sugar she added to the brew to make it palatable. He decided he was going to have to lay in a small stock of generic ‘cola’ for visitors so his tea wouldn’t be barbarized quite so often, just from that moment.
Perhaps he would even name it after her.
“Fine, Dani Bantock it is then, if anyone asks…well, I suppose cousins or something of the sort, just met because of… old, Christmas letters.” He fumbled and waved a hand. “None with pictures and you happened to be in town, decided you like the city here, transferred schools.”
He waved his hand as though to say he would come up with something far better to explain her background, or rather to help explain it, since she’d have to remember it after all.
“I’ll keep in mind the toothbrush thing.” He said and offered a wicked grin.
