She regained her composure and gave a sheepish smile as she moved to his side and leaned against him gently. "I see, well we must visit her soon. Im sure my mother would want to come along to meet her as well. I want to assure her that Im taking her son away from her." She felt like she was in a way taking him away from her even if she knew otherwise.

She then moved back to face him and tilted her head up at him. "Oh come and sit im sure you must be tired and hungry.", she said moving further to the center of the field. As she moved she felt like her hooves weren't even touching the ground. She was so elated she couldn't even explain it.

Eri nodded and didn't argue that point. He wasn't sure how all of them visiting his mother would go, but he supposed it was something that had to be done. "I'm sure she'd like that." he said as neutrally as he could. Honestly, he had no idea if she would or not, and while he figured she cared that he left, he didn't think the reason was important to her. He smiled as she leaned against him and touched the top of her head with his chin.

He watched her move back and nodded. "A bit, it was a long walk, I'll grab a bite and then we can go see your mother." he said grabbing a mouthful as they moved towards the center of the field. He watched her move and sighed happily. It looked like she was hardly touching the ground, so graceful. Honestly he could watch her move forever.

Aruhe smiled as she made her self more comfortable amongst the flowers of the field and she pulled a small gathering of berries that she had collected before hand. "I picked these a while before you came, I figured you'd need a snack and they should be nice and sweet this time of year. I hope you like them.", she said with a smile. She was going to say something else when she heard rustling behind her a ways. She got up and looked to the outlining trees and took a step forward. "What was.....", her question was suddenly cut off when she heard a voice call from the other direction. It was her older brother Kohaku, she surmised it must of been him flying over head and it was just a branch or something that fell. "Haku! What are you doing here?!", she asked gleefully as she dashed over and hugged him.

Kohaku had been to visit his mother and though he knew of Eri as a foal he didnt know the relationship between him and his precious baby sister had grown into something so serious. Once his mother told him that Aru had gone to meet him and how she could talk of nothing else he decided it was time for him to really get to know and talk with the young stallion. He saw them as he flew over head and he beamed just seeing how happy Aruhe seemed, but he was still sticking to his plan.

He landed and entered the field and Aru seemed surprised and happy to see him as she called his name and went to him with a warm hug. "Aru! Man I forget how much you've grown. I was just visiting with mother and she told me all about this 'Eri' so I decided it was time for me to 'pass my judgment on him. I assume this is him?"

"I'm sure--" He cut himself off and wings flicked up slightly as he watched the shadow pass over head. While he figured this was a safe area and it was unlikely to be anything dangerous, it was still a habit. While he wasn't the best at using his scythes, it was good enough to protect Aru if something decided to drop on their heads.

He relaxed as Aruhe recognized the individual and settled his wings comfortably along his back. He shuffled slightly as they made their greetings and then attention turned to him. "Ah," he bobbed his head. "Hello, yes I'm Eridanus. Nice to meet you."

Aruhe smiled as Eri came closer and confirmed his identity, "Yes, this is Eri and I love him as you love Sis Lumi...." she then turned to look up into Kohaku's eyes and mentally noted that Kohaku was a little taller then Eri before she continued speaking. "And you be nice to him, you hear me! Well then Ill let you two chit chat and Ill just be over with the flowers." She turned around stopping alongside Eri and kissed his cheek and whispered in his ear lovingly. "Don't worry, he just wants to ruffle your feathers a little but he is harmless." She then walked back into the field with a grin on her face.

Kohaku just smirked at his sisters words but then smiled seeing how happy she was. He could tell Eri though was a little nervous and as much as he trusted his sister's judgment it was his brotherly duty to ruffle the feathers and 'test' her love. "Im pleased to meet you too Eridanus......now then let us have a little chat.", he said moving to be by Eri's side. "To business, Aruhe is my little sister and she is very dear to me. I have to say that if you hurt her in ANY way I will come after you...you understand? I don't think I have to say that, but as her brother its my duty to look after her pure heart. Also I want you to see me as your brother, I consider you family now and I have faith that you will take care of Aru. If you ever need anything come to me and Ill be there for you stallion to stallion. Look after my sister Eri, she may too pure, protect her heart."

Aruhe watched as the boys talked, but her attention was drawn behind her in the trees with another rustling sound. She moved closer and this time she was sure she saw a figure dashing away. She continued closer to a few bushes, but when she got there she saw no one. She turned to return closer to Eri and Haku, but her eyes caught sight of something hidden in the bushes. It was a basket, a child?!

Why was it out here, who would leave their child? She ventured into the tree line to search for the parents but none where to be found. She knew she couldn't leave it there so she carefully moved it into the field. She laid on ground and wrapped her body around the basket and also picked flowers and put them around the basket. She looked back to the boys still talking and wondered what they were going to do now.....

Eri nodded slightly. "Wish I had more feathers to be ruffled." he muttered slightly. He knew what she meant, but he didn't have to like it. Although he understood this was some sort of ritual, the hazing by big brothers, or fathers of the prospective male friend. He just wished he could skip it.

He resisted the urge to shuffle away as Kohaku moved next to him. He sighed, "I would never hurt Aru. I love her, more than anything. She's the only one that has ever treated me like I was a freak." he flexed the wing on the far side of his body away from Kohaku. "She made me believe in myself and learn how to use these things and I aim to use them to protect her." He didn't add that that included any foals that came along. That was a long way off anyway. He wondered though if he was being to defensive, but what sort of stallion would he be if he backed down and didn't stand up for himself. If he did that how could he prove that he was capable of protecting Aruhe from whatever life threw their way.

He looked over towards where Aru had gone to let them have a little privacy, but he frowned as he didn't immediately see her now. "Wait...where has Aru gone?" he asked slightly worried. He'd just gotten back to her, he didn't want to lose her now.

Kohaku simply smiled and nodded his head, "That's what I expected to hear. I can tell you care about her and I can see she is in good care with you. I knew she was just hearing from my mother but what would of brother would I be if I didn't make sure for myself." It was then Eri made the comment about where Aru had gone. Kohaku turned around, when he didn't see here either he lifted himself up with his wings and then he saw her emerge from the bushes. "Oh there she is, she is settling back in the field, looks like she found something. Well Ill leave you two alone. Glad I was able to meet you, brother.", he said with a sly smile and wink before he took off.

Aruhe was panicked a little and scared for the basket as well. It didn't seem like its parents were going to come back and she would not abandon it a second time. She told herself she would raise it, but what about Eri, she would have to speak to him. She wasn't on her own anymore, Eri was her family now more then ever. She looked up and saw Kohaku flying off and Eri was bound to head back towards her. She was nervous so she raised and paced in front of the basket trying to figure out what to say to him.

Eri nodded understanding where the other stallion was coming from, but he still didn't have to like it. "I know, I'd probably do the same if my sister brought someone home." Although that was a huge maybe. Sadira was older than him anyway, not to mention he'd always been afraid he was going to hurt her with the blades on him if he got to close.

The term "brother", though caught him off guard. He knew he had actual brothers, but he'd never met them, and to hear it applied to him in an affectionate way gave him pause, but in a good way. He smiled a bit and let the warm feeling that came with acceptance rush over him. This really was home, now and forever.

He weaved his way through the grass and flowers to get to Aru and wondered why she looked so suddenly nervous. "What's wrong?" he asked concerned, the rush of the previous warmth fading into a chill. He moved next to her and nuzzled her when the basket caught the corner of his eye. "Is that...a baby?" he asked staring at it.

She froze as Eri stood in front of her and as he saw the basket. She couldn't form words for several minutes but she finally took a deep breath and looked at the basket and then nuzzled against Eri's neck before returning and laying beside the basket. "It would appear so my love. I fear its been abandoned by its mother. I saw a figure run off in the woods and none have come back for it.", she rose again after nuzzling the basket to which it moved slightly. She walked back and faced Eri as tears welled in her eyes. "I can't abandon it a second time, it deserves to have a family and a second chance.......I believe we could be that chance......", as a tear rolled down her cheek and a small smile breached her mouth her eyes helped a question. A question that would change their lives forever, "Can this be the start of our family?"

He listened quietly as Aru explained what she'd seen. He went a little stiff at the fact the basket had been abandoned. While his own mother hadn't been winning any awards in the parenting department, at least she'd been there while he'd grown up. What kind of mother just left her baby alone? Was there something wrong with it? Was there something wrong with her? His mind swam with questions, but there was no sense in asking them. It wasn't like he'd be able to get answers.

He looked down at the basket again taking in it's colors. He felt sorry for the little colt or filly sleeping inside, to be left all alone, and it honestly didn't take much convincing for him to agree with Aru. "Of course, Aru." he said nuzzling her. "I could never imagine leaving a little one alone like this, no matter what it doesn't deserve this." he took a few steps forward and sniffed at the basket, breathing in the scent of the little life inside. "Don't know how good a father I'll be, but I'll do the best I can for you." he promised, then looked back at Aru with a smile. "Besides, I have your mom to help."

She was so happy she had tears forming in the corner of her eyes. She almost bouncing on her hooves as she rushed to him and hugged him and then kissed him. "With or without my mother you will be an amazing father Eri, I know it. This is the start of our life together, a start to our family. I love you Eri and we will give this child all the love it could ask for. Thank you Eri for being in my life.", she said nuzzling him lovingly before laying down around the basket nuzzling it gently.

Eri colored slightly pleased at the show of affection and happily returned it. "I'll do my best, for you and the little one, Aru." he said with a smile. He nuzzled her, then watched as she curled around the basket.

He flex his scythes and took up position behind her protectively. He'd never felt such a rush of happiness before, not to mention fear, but he knew they'd be fine no matter what else life through their way. This was his family, now and forever, and it was the start of something magical he was sure.
