The bartender was already half drained, a bit dopey and tired, minorly out of sorts. It meant that, once Amethyst finally got his hooks in, he'd be able to draw out a decent amount of energy -- and then the man would go limp, unconscious, in his arms. Ilmenite stepped in immediately to help him: lowering the bartender back behind the bar and shooting a look around the place to make sure no one had spotted the damage.
If they had, they weren't speaking up.
"Well done, let's see what you got." Ilmenite held out a hand in request, his eyebrows raised in question. "Did you get a feel for it? We need another?"

The look of intense concentration on Amethyst's face was instantly replaced by one of pure surprise when the bartender suddenly slumped unconscious against him. Did he go overboard with the draining and accidentally kill him? He found himself wondering, already starting to prepare himself mentally for the admonishment that was likely to come from Ilmenite the moment the General was done making sure that the man was safely tucked out of plain sight behind the bar.
It was hard trying to make out with the amount of lighting available the tell-tale rise and fall of the other's chest that would help address that particular concern of his and before he knew it, the General was standing before him with an outstretched hand and asking to see what he got as a result of the exercise.
"Y-yeah. I'm good I think..." He hadn't even realized that he now held a spherical energy orb in his other hand until he curled his fingers around it, his mind quickly putting two and two together and figuring that this was what Ilmenite was alluding to as he uncurled his fingers around it to show him. "Is he..?" A casual tilt of his head towards the still unconscious bartender next, a reluctance to use the D word while the Lieutenant waited with trepidation for the other's explanation as to what was going on.

"He's just wiped." This was dry, faintly amused -- but not displeased, certainly. So many of the Negaverse embraced the D word, and dived right into it, preferring violence to just about anything else. That wasn't Ilmenite. He'd fought, certainly, and would fight if he had to, but generally...well. Other tasks suited him better. Like this. "It's like being really, really drunk." The voice of experience. Ilmenite took the pearl from Amethyst, considered it, turning it over in his palm, and returned it to him -- with another beside it. The rest he'd gathered, earlier. "Including the hangover, the next morning. Worse hangover you've ever had."

The Lieutenant relaxed visibly when Ilmenite dispelled his unfounded concern with the confirmation that the bartender was in fact still very much alive. The idea of death didn't so much as squick or irk him really considering his line of work in the medical field. Death came to everyone eventually through one way or another after all. It was the knowledge that he was ignorant and in being so, possibly costed someone his life that didn't sit entirely well with him and made him self conscientious as a result.
"His as well..?" He took the proffered energy orbs, curious as he gingerly felt them with his hands then tucked them away in one of his pockets. "You make it sound as if you've gone through the experience yourself Sir. Is there a limit to how much we can take from an individual before their life gets endangered?"

"They should be safe, but I wouldn't push it." Let the newbie have the energy; Ilmenite could always collect more himself, and this way Amethyst could hopefully hit his quota more easily -- since he didn't seem to have the way with leeching off people that Ilmenite had, in the start. He shook his head, looked down the bar, and then stole another bottle from behind, shoving it into the inside pocket of his coat. IT was a familiar movement. He'd done it before. He'd done it before out of uniform. "Do you need anything else?" Duty done, he raised both eyebrows at Amethyst in question. Other places to me, and other things to do, perhaps. Or maybe he just wanted to go lounge on the couch with Zed.

"Affirmative." A bobbing motion of the blond Lieutenant's head, the information he was given filed away for now until he had time to go over the steps again on his own later. It dawned on Amethyst that he had the means with which to ascertain if what he was puzzling over would be realized if he indeed went to that extent. It all boiled down to giving the matter some thought then finding the specific individuals to experiment reasonably on to get a better feel for the amount of energy he could get away with though that would certainly have to come another day after he was somewhat familiar with how he should go about this.
...
Was he hallucinating from the effects of the alcohol in his system, or did he really see Ilmenite pocketing a bottle in front of him? His eyes went wide at that, an awkward expression on his face again as he quickly averted his gaze and pretended that he hadn't just witnessed the General performing an act of theft in front of him. "Not for now I think." Not that he had any intention of alerting the relevant authorities or bouncers of course. He might be slow on the uptake of certain things but he wasn't that stupid to go rat on Ilmenite like that. "Do you need anything?" There were consequences if one did that sort of thing in a militaristic organization like the Negaverse and even he knew that.

"I'm set, I think." It came with a grin and a flash of a wave, his shoulder rolling in a quick shrug. Ilmenite had asked -- had offered more help -- had stuck around and done all that he could for a fresh-faced newbie. Or, at least, as much as he knew how to do. Amethyst had his info, where he lived from the meeting. So. So be it. He disappeared, taking the easy way home. baby_gwing Fin! lemme know if you want any other RPs! C:

Amethyst wasn't sure if he would ever figure Ilmenite out. The General seemed obliging enough to take him up on his request to instruct him on the matter of energy collecting. Yet with the way the events of the evening had turned out, he didn't know if it was just him looking too much into Ilmenite's way of doing things or he had perhaps antagonized the General with his behaviour or demeanor to the point that he couldn't wait to leave and finally be relieved of him.
He was appreciative of the lesson nevertheless, thanking the other as he smiled and waved him on his way, finishing what was left of his drink before slipping back out to the street.
