James had a feeling that Yahya was unaware that some of these photographs would eventually make their way into his portfolio. At least once he touched them up and what not. He also had a feeling that Yahya didn't know he'd be taking the photos with him first, to apply touch-ups and whatever else was necessary, before he'd provide them with a disc but he figured that could come up in conversation later.

James stepped back when Gatsby tried to jump up, holding his camera high in the air to keep it from getting damaged. "Whoa, whoa!" He used his other hand to push the dog down. "Bad Gatsby!" He scolded wagging a finger at the dog. "He is definitely high energy," he agreed watching Gatsby bolt off again. "But I'm sure with the proper training he'd be a great dog. German Shepard are such smart dogs." He fiddled with the settings to better capture motion and snapped a few pictures.

"How old is he?" James asked lowering the camera to look over at Yahya. Gatsby returned to his side and began butting his head against his legs. "Hey, knock it off," he told the dog. He knelt and pet him right behind the ears. Excitably happy Gatsby sat and leaned into it. "And yes," he replied, avoiding looking at the blue haired man.

The pout would not get him this time!

Yahya was sure that any amount of scolding would never make it through Gatsby's thick skull. The dog only seemed momentarily affected by being told he was 'bad'. He backed away from James just long enough to take off after whatever imaginary toy he was seeking. "He just needs an active family to take him home. Once he's burned out all of his energy he can be a pretty wonderful dog. It's just getting him to burn out that energy that is the problem." Gatsby eventually made his way back to the pair, and Yahya easily convinced the dog to sit. Gatsby was smart, just completely difficult to handle.

Yahya had his attention span for all of a minute before the dog wandered off ack to James. "He's about three, so I expect in another couple of years he'll start to calm down. I just hope he doesn't spend those years here." He smiled a little as James knelt down to pet the mutt, thinking that it would have made a cute picture if he had been the one with the camera. However, he was not, and James seemed to be determined to get him in a couple of pictures. He just hoped that a 'couple' did not turn into... a crap ton.

Noticing that James was avoiding eye contact with him, Yahya only pouted more, though decided against stepping into James' line of sight just to make sure the man saw his pout. "Um, okay, what do you want me to do then?" It was only now that he considered his current attire and how picture worthy it wasn't. He was wearing dirty overalls over a plain white t-shirt which was probably dirty as well. Oh god, these pictures were going to be embarrassing.

"Well with all the crazy stuff going on around this city, I doubt there are many people who want to continue to be active," he paused, frowning as he recalled the events at what had been referred to as the surrounding. Things were scary crazy and he couldn't blame anyone who didn't want to leave their house at night. "At least at night. Haven't policemen advised against it?" He was pretty sure some sort of statement had been issued at least once.

Maybe they had given up on trying to enforce any sort of curfew. The world was full of rebels, who would want to abide by a curfew at the age of 18 or older?

"If he doesn't get proper training before then though," he started giving Gatsby a final pet on the head before sending him off in his companion's direction. "It will be hard to teach him anything, even if he's calmed down." He frowned. "People won't want a dog who doesn't understand basic commands, especially if they're prone to high energy," he shrugged. Gatsby jumped up on Yahya trying so desperately to lick his face.

James took the opportunity to snap a picture despite Yahya's pout.

"It's likely that, if he gets adopted, he'll be in and out for a while," he lamented shaking his head. The dogs deserved better but many didn't think about how much work came with owning a pet. Dogs were some of the hardest to care for. "But I hope he finds a good home and that doesn't happen." Gatsby struck him as a dog who wanted to be good but he needed direction.

"Just do what you normally do. Don't think about the photographs. Ignore me," he instructed waving a hand, "I'm not here."

"That's true," Yahya agreed with a small frown. That was something he was supposed to have the potential to help with, but had so far refused to. He had been awakened as Sailor Merlin for well over a year, and yet he refused to do anything that meant committing part of his life to being a senshi. He didn't necessarily feel guilty about it, but he was beginning to see the repercussions of his inactivity as a senshi. Sure, he wasn't lazing about all day while he could be doing something for the greater good... but he still did feel a little guilty. "There has been some crazy stuff going around in this city for a while now." He did doubt that the curfew did anything but encourage teenagers to sneak out at night and get themselves into trouble. Sometimes he felt like teenagers were rather like children, being told 'no' only made them want to do something even more.

"He knows sit, but has difficulty with 'stay'. I think there's little anyone can do to keep him from moving all the time," Yahya answered with a certain amount of fondness regarding the black dog. Perhaps it was the fondness in his voice that encouraged Gatsby to come by him again. "Woah!" Yahya had to step back as Gatsby tried to hop onto his back legs to lick his face. The dog placed his paws against Yahya's chest, and succeeded in being able to lick his chin.

"Down, Gatsby, down!" he was definitely embarrassed to have a dog jumping all over him when he was supposed to be good with animals! He grabbed the dog's paws and gently guided him back down onto all four of legs, looking a little relieved when Gatsby decided to stay there. "I'm sure someone will find him absolutely charming!" came a hopeful and positive response from Yahya.

"But you're right there," Yahya pointed out with a pout. He wasn't stupid, he knew how to pretend... he just knew that James was taking pictures of him, and that was very difficult to ignore!

"I mean, did you hear about how all those people disappeared for like a month then mysteriously reappeared?" He asked looking at Yahya slyly. He didn't mention that he had been one of the ones that disappeared. In many ways that experience had fueled his inner adventurer while at the same time left him very skeptical of world. He had died out there and lingered around as a ghostly spirit.

To say the whole experience had been surreal was an understatement.

He wanted to know what Yahya thought or knew of the whole situation. "Pretty weird stuff right? And that city wide coma. Where everyone just suddenly woke up, no explanation." Maybe he didn't really want to know if he was changing subjects so quickly. "But I guess crazy stuff happens everywhere," he shrugged.

Maybe it just wasn't good topic conversation.

Their conversation returned to high energy Gatsby, "I don't think he's walked enough. There isn't enough space in that kennel for him to burn all that energy." James might have liked to watch the popular Dog Whisperer tv show. "Even you guys don't have enough time to devote to him." A statement.

He waved Yahya's concern away. "No, it'll be fine. Just do what you do. As if I wasn't here. Easier than you think," he offered him a sincere smile. "Promise."

"I'm surprised anyone actually wants to stay in this city with how many weird happenings have been going on." Yahya actually did not have much knowledge of the civilians who had gone missing for about a month. He knew it had something to do with the senshi, or at least with magic. But, he hadn't involved himself in it. Yahya was so deeply in denial over his senshi obligations that he left it to every other magical being to sort out whatever magical war was going on. Obviously, they had done a fair enough job since all of the missing civilians had been returned to Destiny City. The senshi were doing just fine without him! Sailor Merlin was not so great of a loss.

At least that was what he had convinced himself of. "I'm just happy that I've managed to avoid all the crazy," he mused aloud. It was easy to lie about it, even though he wasn't that great of a liar to begin with. Since he necessarily didn't believe himself to be a senshi, so it was easy to tell everyone else that he wasn't. It really wasn't a lie if he chose to never power up or acknowledge Sailor Merlin.

Yahya glanced down towards Gatsby, who was for the moment sitting completely patiently for him. He just knew the dog would explode with energy any second, so he was careful not to look too excited in case the black dog picked up on it. "Oh, he definitely isn't. We don't nearly have enough volunteers to give all the dogs the attention and care they need. It doesn't stop us from trying, however." Their animals were still very well cared for, just not all of them got the special attention they needed to become perfectly adapted animals.

Yahya stared at James as if to say 'but you are here'. It was kind of hard to ignore the man with the classic camera held up to his face. He felt himself seizing up with nerves, which was some sort of invisible clue to Gatsby to try and jump up on him again. "Augh!" Yahya yelped, backing away from Gatsby, though now the dog was on his heels, circling him and trying to get even more uncomfortably closer. He pet the dog's head, trying his best to remain on his feet. "I don't think he's nearly burned out all the energy he needs to..."

"Well," he began, face twisting into an expression of thoughtfulness."I think that some people are unable to leave, not that they're trapped but because they've dug their heels in so deeply that they can't dig themselves out." A sigh escaped his lips and he lowered his lens. He raked a hand through his messy brown locks as he tried to sort out his thoughts. He wasn't making much sense. "I guess, well. What I'm trying to say is that some people are too stubborn to leave. This is their home y'know? If you've lived here your entire life then, despite the bad circumstances, you would be hesitant to leave wouldn't you?" He stood to properly catch Yahya's gaze. "I mean, you're still here right? Why haven't you left?"

After the words left his mouth, James wondered if the question was perhaps too personal. He hardly knew Yahya, what gave him the right to ask such personal questions?

"Ah," he muttered, cheeks flushing, "sorry. You don't have to answer that. Let's uh, focus on Gatsby and the rest of the photographs."

He returned to his kneeling position, raising the camera to take the picture of the surprising calm canine. The shutters snapped at just the right second before the dog took off again. "He's quite excited to be out of that kennel," he commented trying to advert the conversation. Maybe, if they saw each other again he would revisit the old topic. For now, he'd rather focus on the charity work.

He watched, unable to hide his amusement, as Gatsby jumped seeming to have the intent of knocking the young man over.

All in all, it was a pretty smooth session and perhaps unfortunately for him, he took Gatsby home so half of his efforts were wasted but - he had a great dog now, so it was sort of a win!
