She apologized and the lion turned his head away, shaking it slowly. She shouldn't be sorry. He should have been here to protect her. A roaming male would often think twice of approaching a female if another male stood nearby. It was far more risky to their own well being. An injury for a rogue could be lethal. It would slow them on hunts, fester in the open, and hinder them in fights. But a lone female? Especially one as small as Chi was invited trouble. He should have known that. He did know it. He'd grown careless and she had nearly suffered for it.

He opened his mouth to reply but at that moment Chi's little nose pushed his cloak aside and she began nursing his wound. If he could blush, he would have gone red all over. What...was she doing?! Why? But.... what?!

The lion stared, wide eyed and completely speechless. It wasn't until her final apology that some sense brought a hammer to the shell of stupification that had formed around his mind in order to protect it from his own confusion. He blinked, shook his head, and forced his frown back. "Don't apologize. I'm just glad I made it in time. I should have kept closer."
