The returned blow was unexpected.
The smaller hunter had carried herself well and turned about slamming her fist clear into Roland pushing him back. He didn't have time to adjust too much and tried to get one last swing in just before he was out of range, the tip of Sylvia's blade just barely knicking Peyton as he finally came to a halt after the sudden punch.

Peyton was small, agile, and knew where her strengths lay, specially against ranged weapons.
Her first punch had pushed him back, and despite the scythe's blade scratching at her shields as he swung at her, she was already moving, closing that small gap she'd created. Left arm snapping forward now to aim a punch at his side.
She did not relent. She did not back down. Sun was the perfect place for her.

s**t.
That was all he could think when Peyton closed in again. He couldn't pull Sylvia in close enough to deal with the smaller hunter suddenly in arms reach, every time he tried the back end of his weapon would clip the dirt and cause him to stumble all the more.
At one point he simply didn't rely on Silvya at all and threw a quick punch to try and throw Peyton's rhythm off less she continued to pummel him.

Peyton liked pummeling opponents, she liked it a lot. In fact an argument could be made that she enjoyed it far more then she really should have. She had always been a scrappy little s**t though, so it was only natural that she'd take to her life in Deus like a fish to water.
For her, it was as if her entire life had been leading up to this, to now. A semi miserable existance that contained the periodic moment of joy, peppered with disappointment, all of it preparing her for something more.
She continued to advance at him, determined to maintain the upper hand, though his unexpected punch did throw her off a little. She had to doge, taking the blow to the shoulder connecting to the arm she'd already pulled back to strike. It was too late corrections or second thoughts now though, so she let loose anyways, bringing that hand up to smack into his arm and force it away.

Roland was lucky, the last strike only caused him to grunt a little bit as it landed. Still everything was thrown off balance and he was able to break away. Twisting past Peyton putting distance between them.
In the process he swung again, though Sylvia went wide, his attack seeming to hit nothing at all...

Roland managed to get a little space between them with a lucky turn, and Peyton couldn't change direction quite fast enough to make up for it.
Instead she slid to a stop as he swung his scythe in a wide arc around him, narrowed eyes searching for an opening. When the blade passed she darted forward, swinging at him.

When she turned to strike she met resistance. Something in the air seemed slow her blow for a moment dulling the punch into nothing as it never reached the target. What happened next was chaos.
The barrier broke, an invisible wall of sound that stopped the blow before throwing it back and away from Roland in a howling burst of noise that could only be described as a Banshee wail.
Sadly the wail put too much distance between them and prevented him from landing another hit.

Lavender eyes went wide as her hand never made it to her target, and the explosion of sound was enough to pull a startled scream for the petite Sun as she was forced back, boots dragging in the dust as she threw herself into a crouch to dig the fingers of her left hand into he ground to slow herself down quick enough to lunge straight into another assault as his swing went wide. She needed to close that gap again.
Unfortunately her timing was bad, and she the blow she had aimed for him smacked the handle of the other hunter's weapon in a ringing chime. Loud, but not damaging in the least. It was startling, and it made her bounce back, sinking into a low crouch so she could just try again.

Roland could only smile slightly as the sound barrier burst. In a weird way it was music to his ears, he was used to the sounds Sylvia made and so hearing her howling shout was nothing new to him, for once it was reassuring as it meant the barrier worked right this time.
The aftermath was a purring Sylvia in his head, << I haven't let out a shout like that in ages... I like this one! >>
< Don't rejoice yet, she still has her trick too... and she's a sun. >
He recalled seeing what other suns where capable of when their weapons had FEAR, he wasn't too keen on learning what Peyton could do with hers. It likely had something to do with pain and hurting.
Keeping his distance he spun Sylvia around overhead bringing her back down and across Peyton trying to drive her back with wide curving swings.

Well now she was beginning to dislike that scythe. It came down in a wide arc, and Peyton felt the blade slice through her shield and she jumped back, just as Roland had wanted. It was frustrated, and her lip curled as she stared back at him. < Peyton.> Warrick's voice purring into her head. < Let's show him what we can do.> I like the sound of that. Let's do it, War. She grinned, and a** the rush of FEAR crashed over her she darted forward, dodging whatever counter attack he might have thrown at her. Her first hit took him in the chest, the shock of it jarring her shoulder, making her arm tingle, but she ignored it. The second hit was lower, and that too sent a shock through her entire arm as she sank her fist into his stomach. HP: 21/40 DMG: 7.5 rounded up to 8 @ Ro, 9 @ Peyton CHG: 0/3 | 0/2

Sylvia's cry came too late as the rush of FEAR took Peyton over, she moved forward and Roland could only aim a wild slash to try and dissuade her assault. Even so Peyton was able to slip to the side reaching in before slamming her fist once in the chest and lower in the gut sending him sliding through the dirt.
The impact was devastating it left him panting as his shield reformed around him. Sylvia shivering in the back of his mind.

Getting his footing Roland rushed back in leaping into the air twisting about bringing Sylvia full circle as he landed in a wild swing followed by a series of short slashes to drive the smaller hunter back once more. Distance would save him, if she got in like that again he wouldn't be standing for long.

And hard! Peyton let out a grunt as Roland's blade came slashing at her again, driving her back, and for a moment all she could do was back up and try to protect herself.
He hand her arms up, using her knuckles to deflect the curved blade of the scythe, but there was no openings to exploit. Right that moment she couldn't counter him. It was frustrating as all hell!

Peyton had done well to block indeed, Roland had let loose the one wild swing and was continuing forward once more, Sylvia spinning end over end in his hands like some kind of baton with a pointed tip, each blow bouncing off her own weapon time and time again only getting in for the smallest of blows.

The crashing clang of metal on metal was almost deafening as Roland came at her with his scythe spinning, and Peyton had had little choice but to simply keep blocking and back up. Usually she had the advantage over mid or long ranged weapons, but this guy was either good, or lucky. Maybe both. She kept backing up until his weapon slowed, and she took that tiny chance, ducking down beneath the arc of the blade and coming up on her knees, punching at his hip before hopping up on her feet behind him. She had to keep close if she was going to turn this fight around. HP: 14/40 DMG: 3 CHG: 1/3 | 0/2

The sound continued to ring out as Sylvia turned end over end in his hands sometimes switching direction and momentum going from top to bottom, and back to top in a seemingly endless spinning barrage.
One swing was indeed slower then the rest and instead of meeting weapon to weapon again he found Peyton dipping down and around hitting his hip as she slid by before popping up behind him.
He didn't think, he acted, spinning around bringing Sylvia across and over.... right over Peyton's head. He was used to fighting people taller then him, not shorter where a slight crouch would allow them to dodge a level swing with ease.
