Rin closed her phone and put it away. "Don't pretend you weren't willfully antagonizing him. Just for your selfish pride. His pride tells him to do whatever it takes to crush his enemies - even if it costs him his life." Rin tilted her head up at Melvin, eyes narrowed, "If I die tomorrow in a freak accident, I hope it was worth it."

It was a sharp attack, and he swallowed at it was stabbed into him. "You don't think I can protect you. If Rep's pride lets him do whatever he wants, then he shouldn't be allowed to do whatever he wants. It should be cut down. No one else is willing to do it. Everyone just lets him get away with whatever he wants and lets him make threats. He shouldn't be allowed to do that. You shouldn't have to feel like running. You should stay here! With me!" He shouted, frustrated with her and everything else.
She didn't trust him to protect her. "You think I'm weaker than him. Why did you want me anyways if you don't even think I can protect you? What good am I to you if you run away from me? If you can't rely on me?"
He took a breath. "Rep's just a human like everyone else. He's not invincible." Melvin told himself that, but he could see that Rin was afraid, and he hoped he wasn't looking the same way.

"I don't need protecting. And no one lets him away with anything. You said it yourself; he's got no weapon and he was kicked out of his own division. Why do you care how he's being punished anyway? What the ******** effect has it got on you? I had this situation completely under control until you got on your goddamned high horse. Anything that happens to me now is your fault."
She looked hurt, "I don't think he is stronger. He is more ruthless. This is a fact."
"I didn't choose you to protect me Melvin. I chose you because I liked you and found you sweet and funny and honest... and well... not like this. Why are you turning into Rep? Why? I chose you over him for a REASON but you are doing everything in your power to become like him. So proud you refuse to listen or give an inch."

Then he turned around and said he only wanted to create misery and pain to make himself happy. I don't want a person like that around anyone I know. I don't want someone who I've seen take pleasure in hurting people, as if it was a game, to be allowed to go around without punishment. A person I trusted." A Sun who stood proudly and wanted to keep everyone safe.
"I don't want him to take you from me and for everyone to let him get away with it. I don't have anything else, Rin. Everyone has left me. I only had you and Rep, and now I just have you, and I don't want you to leave me. I left - I left everyone I know off this island. I don't have anything else. I don't know what to do if you go. I just wanted him to know I was here and hoped - God, I know it's stupid, but I hoped he'd be afraid." Afraid like he was when he heard Rep saying he'd go after Rin.
He went quiet, looking at her. "This island is supposed to be a place where we all feel safe. Why isn't it?"

"He wasn't going to hurt me. Why couldn't you just trust me on that?... He might now," Rin reached to touch where her arm used to be. "Have you ever dueled him with Tracey out? It's not like he chose to hurt me then. He's choosing to hurt me now. You threw down that gauntlet. I wish you just listened to me. You can't take that back now."
Rin reached to grab Melvin's shoulder firmly, "I felt safe before... I don't now." She wasn't sure how else to put this, "You walked right up to the alien queen then cut one of her offspring in two. While staring her right in the eye. Right. In. The. Eye."

The metaphor worked, and he just looked at her, eyes wide as regret moved in. "I just wanted to be strong. I wanted to take care of this and make sure he was too afraid to touch you...or to do something to get him in trouble so he could never go near you. I was afraid for you because you didn't seem to be. I thought you just weren't taking this seriously."
And like everything he ever did, he ******** it all up. "I just wanted to hurt him." Hurt him as much as he felt hurt. He wanted to do what all the other hunters did and destroy something, but even he should have noticed how ill fitting that disguise was.
He should have just resigned once again to the fact he couldn't do anything, and just waited and hoped nothing bad happened. What did he think he could ever accomplish or do by making threats? He wasn't powerful? Him making a treat was more comical than anything else. He was a joke. Not a hunter who could scare anything away with any sort of power because he didn't have it. Even with a jacket and a gun, he still wasn't in the same league.

"You should have trusted me. He hasn't killed me yet, for a reason." Should have. It was too late now though. "Look. Maybe running away is a stupid idea. I'd just be waiting for him to show up to do whatever. I'm going to approach him. If you want to come, you'd better have a heartfelt and sincere apology. If not? I want you to stay away and just trust me a little. Okay?"

He could apologize to Rin, but to Rep. Even the idea of it made his inside's curl, but would he seem like a coward if he wasn't there to face him? Could he trust Rin to take care of everything and not get hurt if she went to face Rep alone?
Quiet, he thought hard about it, but either option was something he was unwilling to pick. "Could you meet him someplace populated? Someplace he couldn't attack you?" If Melvin couldn't be there, then he would feel safer if Rin talked to Rep someplace where Rep couldn't hurt her.

"It's too late for that Melvin. I can't make any promises now. I could have before... but now it's a matter of on his terms and as soon as possible. Before it gets out of hand." She suddenly slid her arm around Melvin and hugged him close.

"Will you tell me where you are meeting at? I want to make sure I'm close by if anything happens." He didn't think it would be best to show up if he couldn't even apologize, but being nearby in case Rep decided to fly off the handle was something Melvin felt he could and wanted to do.
At her own snuggling, despite each action sending a fresh jolt of tension that he had to easy out of, he finally made the hovering touch of his into just setting his hands on her back and adding a bit of pressure. "So you're staying then?"

When she released, he just looked at her, clearly not liking the idea of her going off alone. She was afraid enough to run from Rep, to look that terrified that he would come after her, and here she had to turn around and talk to him. He didn't want to believe in her and trust her when he felt better to just being close by, but if she wanted it that way, he just had to sit someplace and twiddle his thumbs. It didn't help him feel great in the least.
"Am I....just making your life miserable?" He asked, looking at her. No matter what he did, he couldn't really see why Rin was still clinging to the idea of wanting to be with him. It wasn't like he was offering her what she wanted.

Rin laughed at the ridiculousness of his question. Sure, she was quite miserable right in this moment and yes it was pretty much Melvin;s fault as to why. But in the grand scheme of experiences so to say he just does that and only that was absurd, "Don't you start. We'll talk when I get back." If.
