It took a good few moments for Raven to remove the pillow from her head, but when she did she sighed. “Fine. Fine I’ll try, okay?” She moved her head and put it into his lap, still looking up at him…in fact still looking rather grumpy.
“I’m not going to pretend that I understand at all why you can’t just quit the DMC. It’s not like we have any purpose with it anyway. And I’m telling you now, Jett.” She sat up, looking him dead in the eye. “The moment that I feel you’re more devoted to that useless cause than you are to your real life, your real future…I’m done. I’m going to walk away from this relationship before I end up getting hurt anymore. So just…please keep your priorities straight…You know. If you really want to keep me in your life.”

The knot in his stomach didn't entirely dissolve, but Jett flashed a smile anyway. He reached over, pulling her back down into his lap so he could play with her hair. "All right," he said; he didn't perceive her words as threatening, just the words of a jealous girl. "If that's how you feel, I'm sure we can figure something out for the future. I haven't given up on real life, you know that. I still go to school, still have my job. The DMC doesn't come with a résumé or a paycheck."
Though, it wasn't quite as useless as she painted it to be. He'd just have to find some way to get her interested in it all again. Maybe Ares would come back, or the wraiths would stop being such disobedient little bastards. He leaned forward, planting a soft kiss on her forehead. "Speaking of paychecks, though, I just got mine. I won't bother you to go out tonight since you seem ready for bed. We should do something tomorrow. Anything you want. We'll just be normal people for a while, how's that?"

She nodded. “Tomorrow sounds good to me…Lunch and a movie or something…? Then you could spend the night here if you wanted. I guess. And we can have dinner with your mom? We can cook her dinner?”
Raven gave a small smile, very small, but seemed at least the slightest bit hopeful. If she could get him to stop being a DMC like she wanted to…well…then she could totally see them being together forever. She wanted them to be together forever. She always had and she would most likely always want the same thing, no matter how long she lived…he was just her perfect guy. Perfectly handsome and wonderful. And all hers.

"She would love that. I would love that." He wore a faint smile, relaxing as he leaned back against the headboard.
For every bit as Raven wanted him out of the DMC, he wanted her to regain the enthusiasm she used to have. She was one of the oldest, strongest members of the Court. They couldn’t lose her. He couldn't lose her.
He'd just have to figure something out.
But that could wait. Tonight, they could take a break from it all. Even if it meant he'd have to work twice as hard to make up for lost time.
