Eldorada fell silent as she pondered the question brought forth by Izel, the items they had on them were the last remnants of their homelands, they were precious not only in physical value but due to the sentimental value they held for them in their hearts. It was a serious matter and one that bore a great deal of thought.
"I..don't know yet, I'm sure that between the two of us we can come up with something however..we will just have to keep our eyes peeled for likely spots." She finally answered with a glance towards the other mare. They were Royals, they had a great deal of schooling and knowledge between the two of them..surely they could come up with a hiding spot that would trick the lowly inhabitants of this land.
"Perhaps a hallow tree trunk..and we can cover it with leaves or something" She suggested just to get the ideas flowing because really she thought that idea was just a little too obvious.

"Of course. We can easily outwit the heathens of this land." Of course she wouldn't simply just toss her jewelery in the first spot they found and assume that it would be safe. These last shreds of her old life and family were too precious to do that. This would be a major step to take care of before they saw their first true steps to their current plan. Walking like a heathen was a minor thing compared to safely tucking away their precious jewelery. "There has to be a spot around here that will work." She said glancing around the area that had been acting as their temporary home for a while now. It had been a nice enough area in this new land, yet Izel would do just about anything to return to her home and take it back from that warlord.
She began to walk towards some trees, to see if perhaps they had a good hollow they could use. "It can't be too deep of course, or else we might not be able to retrieve our items. And too shallow might allow them to be found even if we hide them well." Izel glanced at a tree but found no hollow in it. There were plenty of trees here and she had seen a number of them with hollows in them, so it was only a matter of time before they found the perfect one. "We will have to make sure to cover it but also make it look natural. A big leaf stuck to the side of a tree wouldn't fool even the most dim witted of heathens of this land." If they weren't going to put the effort into properly hiding these precious items then they might as well just leave them laying on the ground - which of course was not an option.

Eldorada followed Izel as she went looking for hallow tree's, she was still concerned that a hollow tree might be a bit obvious..or be to easily discovered. "We could probably find a suitable one." She agreed "But I'm worried now that I think about it - what is a squirrel finds them, they dig about in those areas and they are much like crows with their love of shiny things...or what if a storm comes along and blows all or our leaves away?"
Of course if a hollow tree might not work - and it would only work if they stumbled across an absolutely perfect one - then perhaps another solution would work better. "We could bury them." She suggested after a few moments thought.

She looked at a few more trees, one had a small crack in it but it was no where near big enough for their purposes and she couldn't tell how deep into the tree the crack went. No, that wouldn't work at all. The solution was here somewhere, they just had to keep their eyes open...and their minds as well. Izel paused in her search as Eldorada pointed out a few flaws with their plan. No, it wasn't perfect, which was exactly the problem. They needed to be able to find their jewelery but not make it obvious or open to wind, pesky shiny loving critters, squirrels or even plain dumb luck to allow someone to find them. Perhaps a tree hollow isn't the best idea after all."
She considered the idea of burying them. "They would have to be protected from the dirt." Izel said, mulling their options over. "But I feel like even that will be obvious. I can think of a number of peasants who thought they could hide things by burying them, those items were quickly found and taken away because everyone knows that burying something is one of the first things others think of...same with hiding them in the hollow of a tree." She gave her head a shake. "No, what we need to do is something original, something that no one would expect and therefore they would never think to look where we put them." She knew there was an answer their dilemma, she just needed some time to think on it and then that answer would come.

Eldorada nodded in agreement as Izel pointed out the many flaws in their idea's so far "Well we will figure it out." She assured the other mare "Unlike the lowly creatures we used to mind we tend to think beyond such obvious but flawed solutions to find the true one beyond it, surely the answer will come to us..in the mean time I suppose it is pointless to keep looking here, we might as well continue our journey and look as we go." She suggested.
After all if they were not planning to use any of these trees for their solution then continuing to look through them was a waste of time. Up the trail there may well be the solution they were looking for "We still have time to figure it out, there is still a good bit of distance between ourselves and the nearest herd."

Izel smiled at her friend. Perhaps they had not been the best of friends prior to what had happened to their herds but now she could see that Eldorada was a good Soquili to have around. Beyond being forced from their homes they actually had a lot more in common that she had first believed. This was good because if they still didn't get along it would make accomplishing anything a whole lot harder and could lead to one or both of them getting into deep trouble - deeper than they already were in. "That is true. But then again when you are raised to not think for yourself how can you expect them to be smart enough to think beyond the obvious." She said with a nod. The lowly were useful yes, but without someone to guide them they were a burden on society as well as themselves.
"Yes, let us go, we have spent enough idle time here. If we are ever to move into the next phase of our plan then we must do so now." She began to walk then, using her more refined graceful walk. Why suffer with the heathen walk if they were so far away from a herd? She would make sure to play the roll once they got closer. "I know we will find the perfect place to hide our jewelry along the way." She said to Eldorada confidently, and she was. Besides this area had lots of wear from them spending several weeks here, an obvious sign to anyone wandering through that someone did or had recently lived here and so this grove was the worse spot to hide anything. As long as they didn't run into any travelers along the way that could spot their jewelry and pass that knowledge onto other then they would be fine. She made a mental note to watch out for others and to move out of sight of them to avoid such incidents until the jewelry could be properly and safely tucked away.

"I expect that's true." Eldorada responded when her friend commented on the heathen's upbringing - it was impractical to expect anything more of those beasts. She wondered briefly how her former subjects were faring under the cruel stallions rule, no doubt they were suffering a good and deal would never again complain about their service to the royals once she returned and restored things to normal. They wouldn't have known how good they had it until they lost it.
"Yes lets go on, I don't want to be wandering in the forests forever." She agreed, and hastened after her friend. "If we meet with any travelers along the way I'm sure we will be able to avoid them - or barring that at least come up with enough false answers to satisfy whatever curiosity they might have." Eldorada stated with confidence, they were smart mares - surely they would be able to outwit a few travelers.

The made their way out of the grove that had been their home for several weeks, and Eldorada's for a time longer than that. It felt a bit bittersweet to be leaving that spot but Izel knew they could not stay there waiting for a prince to stumble upon them and offer his services to free their lands. No, they were on their own, so to speak. Most importantly they had a plan and were smart enough to be able to not only stick to it but shape it as needed depending on what and who they found in their travels.
"I agree. One of us will answer all the questions, simply for consistencies sake. We will built a false persona if needed but I doubt we will need to go that far." The continued to walk and Izel took one final look over her shoulder at the grove. There would be no turning back now, she told herself, the time for planning was behind them, now it was time for action. "So tell me about this herd we will reach first. I hope they will have something useful for us."

Eldorada walked alongside Izel as they left the makeshift home they had created in the grove, it was nerve wracking - not because she was in any way attached to the grove, despite the shelter it had offered her, but because they now marched into the unknown. In all her life Eldorada had rarely had to face the true unknown, she had always had a relatively predictable existence prior to fleeing her old home.
Shaking her head slightly she pushed the thoughts of any fears away, there was no time for her to be afraid, not if she wanted to ever return home and reclaim her lands. Sheh ad to be brave now and with Izel beside her that seemed a bit easier, between the two of them surely they would prevail. With these thoughts lifting her spirits somewhat she turned her attention to the question that Izel asked her.
"I've only seen them from afar really, I was never sure enough to actually approach them...but they seem like a small and relatively peaceful herd, I never saw any fighting nor any signs of defense that would make me think they were hostile to outsiders or in any sort of danger."

Izel listened as Eldorada gave her what little information she knew about the herd they were traveling to. While it didn't sound overly promises at least they also didn't sound like the type you would want to avoid. It wasn't much but it would have to do and really they had to start somewhere, so a small herd seemed like the perfect stepping stone to start this next phase of their journey.
"Small can be good." She finally said after a bit. Large herds were also good but sometimes size meant different issues and she wasn't sure if she wanted to face something overly challenging when they were just starting off. "And I am sure they know the lands around here better than we do, so at the very minimum we can gather information and use that to further our plan." One step at a time, that is how they would have to get through this and see to their eventual return to their respective families land. Step one was finding this herd and seeing where it led them.

Eldorada nodded slightly "That's true and it will give us a chance to practice remembering the story we make up about our past without to much risk, I would rather make sure we have all the details down with a smaller group then be scrambling to do so when faced with a larger one." She stated.
"It's probably best if we keep our story fairly simple." She went on "It will be too hard to recall detailed intricate life stories when we are under pressure." Of course they had some time still to work out all the details they would need, if nothing else planning these fake lives would give them a way to pass the time while they traveled...and of course they would still need to keep an eye out for someplace to stash their belongings.

"Yes, we definitely want to get our story straight so that it stays consistent throughout our travels." And really it would be a good opportunity to test it out as well as remember it. Not only that but talking to locals would be a good source of information, not just about the lands but other herds and it would help them to learn to act more like a local - something she was not looking forward to doing but knew it was necessary.
"I agree." She said with a bob of her head. A simple story and background would be much more useable than something complicated. Hopefully the locals wouldn't want to pry too much into their past, but really most of these lowly types didn't care so much for gossip like that, they wanted the current information and nothing else, which worked perfectly for their purposes. There would be a lot to work out as they traveled but it would be fairly easy. "Now to build our story." Izel began to think as they continued to walk, between the two of them they would be able to sort out the perfect easy story for them well before the reached that herd.
