"I swear, it feels like we're gradually slipping down." She took another step, and just to be sure Lucrezia peel a bit of the dirt out of her free hand, balled it up, bent down and gave it a little roll. In what little light she had she could see it gradually rolling down the tunnel, even though she hadn't given it any pressure.

When she stood, she looked at him with a frown, and kept going. "We shouldn't be going down. We need to head up to-" Lucrezia only had to scream as the floor gave way under her. It felt as if she were being shot down a winding tunnel. She let go of her mushroom in favor of trying to grab hold of the walls, only to have her hands pulled away from the slick stone as she spiraled down and down.

Then suddenly there was nothing, but light. She registered that she was in another open cavern, this time with more mushrooms than ever, and water, seeing as she'd been shot out into a pool of it. Lucrezia struggled to the surface, pushing herself with all of her might until she finally pulled herself onto a little bank.

His ears perked as the little ball of dirt rolled, and rolled... and rolled. Downhill... Further into the earth...

He gasped as the female suddenly dropped through the floor, his arm snapping out to grab her. His fingertips only brushed her arms though, and he watched with despair as she vanished. "Lucrezia! Are you okay?!"

Lucrezia brushed her sopping wet hair off her forehead, and sat back on the graveled bank with an aggravated huff. "What else..." She murmured. All they needed now was a pit of serpents, and spike pits.

Cupping her hands around her mouth, she called back up, her voice booming off the stone cavern around her. "I'M FINE! I DON'T SEE A WAY BACK UP, BUT THERE ARE OTHER TUNNELS DOWN HERE! COME DOWN, BUT BE CAREFUL. IT DROPS OUT INTO WATER."

Breathing out a heavy sigh of relief, Whitaker, then frowned at the words he heard. ..He was going to have to jump into the tunnel of doom? He paced side to side a little, adjusted his pack to secure it, and took a deep breath. "Okay! I'm coming."

Holding firm to his mushroom, he apologized to the worms on his head before jumping in, sliding along one side of the wall and managing to not scream the whole way down.

Splashing into the water, his legs kicked in search of solid ground, and he let out another sigh of relief. He was in one piece. So was the mushroom clutch! "Which tunnel do you think we should go through?" he asked as he shook out his fur.

At least he dismounted with more grace than she did. Lucrezia had been so worried about falling into a trap that all she'd been able to do was scream like a little girl, as mortifying as it was.

She stood, and opened her saddlebags for a quick inventory check. Everything was still in one piece, if not drenched. "I'm not sure. There are three that I can see," and indeed there were, each of a varying size. One was nearly as tall as the cavern itself, while the other would almost brush the tops of his antlers. "Which do you think?"

Taking a moment to dump water from his own pack, Whitaker hooked it back around his shoulders and went to inspect the tunnels. He stood at each entry, sniffing the air and inspecting the floor.

"It looks like this this one is more worn down than the other two," he said, holding the mushrooms down close to the ground to see with at the entry of the short one on the left. "I... would rather go through one where I don't have to duck the whole time, but the worn ground is a good sign, right?"

"It's a very good sign." She nodded. "That means that at some point something's passed through here, and it doesn't look to me like it's been water. See these grooves here, in the stone?" Lucrezia held up her mushroom, angling it to show the grooves she was talking about. "These are tracks that have been worn into the mud, then dried and made into park of the cave. We're better off going through here."

Looking over to him and his antlers, she winced. "Sorry. I've got a blanket in my pack if you want to put it over your antlers. It won't help you getting hit, but it may buffer damage."

Nodding along with her explanation, Whitaker gave the air another sniff. The air coming through had a faint freshness to it as well. "If it doesn't lead directly to the outside, then it should be connected to something that does!"

Ears perking, he attempted to look up at his antlers and shook his head. "No, thank you. I think a blanket would get caught easier than my antlers. I've been through tighter spaces than this~" He smiled encouragingly, and made sure his pack was comfortable before heading on down the chosen path.

Lucrezia was a little less optimistic. For all she knew that fresh feeling could be coming from a tiny air passage somewhere in the stones, but she wasn't like to tell him that.

"Oh? Explore pygmy tunnels often, do you?" She grinned, carefully picking her way along the path. She held her worms a loft, looking around whenever she got the chance to see if there were any sort of markers.

Whitaker chuckled lightly. "Not purposely." He held his hands out to either side of himself, feeling the coolness and textures of the surrounding walls. "In the other tunnels you came through before you found me, did you see anything that might hint at what made them or why?"

"I found a few that looked like water, but the others....I don't know, I'd almost say naga, since there were ruts in the stone." Lucrezia made a motion with her hand along the ground. "Almost looked like where they slide along the ground. If that's the case, I would have expected to find some kind of artifact or marker to show that they'd had some sort of life down here, but I haven't seen a thing."

Whitaker sighed softly. Naga... They were the last thing needed when he was already stuck in this situation. Unless it turned out to be a kind, sweet, helpful naga who would show them the way out! ...Not likely, but one could dream~

"I didn't see anything like that either. There were spots where it looked like someone had marked the walls, but more like keeping track marks rather than home-making marks." He scratched at his nose lightly as his antlers scraped a bit of dirt from the walls. "Someone might have stayed here, but it doesn't seem like anyone lived here. No holes for storage, no worn bed areas, no collections of anything other than the glowy worms and dirt..."

"Maybe they were on an expedition, following some sort of old map system see what was down here." It gave her something to ponder, as she tromped across the slick stones and moist soil.

Lucrezia paused, turning an ear to the left to make sure she was hearing what she thought to be true. "That sounds like...running water..." She looked at Whitaker, as confused and wary as anything else. "Should we..?" If they kept walking, they may get caught up in it, but if they turned back...
PostPosted: Tue Nov 12, 2013 8:23 pm

"An expedition. I wonder if we might find something then!" Whitaker grinned excitedly. What if they found a treasure chest, or a rich food source, or some old underground hideaway? Cool!

He hadn't paid much mind to the sound until Lucrezia pointed it out. Running water? He leaned closer to the wall and listened. "Well, why don't we keep going? If the water gets in our way, we can just turn around. Not like this tunnel had any offshoots for us to get more mixed up in."

Lucrezia rolled her eyes and snorted. What a fawn! It was like he didn't realize where he was at times. There was no treasure down here; just mushrooms, worms, and an endless maze of tunnels. They would be lucky if they had enough air to last another week.

"Alright, then. Keep a sharp eye." She certainly planned too, since the closer they got the louder the sound became. It opened up into a smaller cavern, no bigger than the tunnel they were in now. This time, though, she dipped down to get a hand-cups full of water. Lucrezia sighed and wiped her mouth off with the back of her hand. What now? All they were finding was water, and - "Damn it!" Her voice reverberated off the cave walls as Lucrezia attempted to stand, only to fall back down in the mud pit she hadn't realized she'd sat in. Apparently she was loosing it faster than she thought!
