Kade readied the supplies after he slid the cape around Umi, listening to her with the occasional 'hm' and 'oh' every so often. So far, the girl had sounded really sweet! He didn't know if he would be kind enough to stay with his parents if they needed help, not when he had his own life and commitments already! Like the rabbits and his adult son, plus the totally booming business he had here on Nirvani Island! He cast a look in the mirror, glancing behind him at the deserted building. ..Yeah, totally too busy. But, at least that wasn't the case for him! He still admired the girl for sticking with it! Plus, it seemed like a good cause – giving a rabbit to help heal a sick old man~ Kade could already imagine the wheel-chair ridden elderly gentleman smiling with one of the soft bunnies on his lap~ It made him feel all warm and fuzzy to do a good deed like that!
“Oh, if it helps, any, sweet-pea, I haven't been out much myself! Just to work and then home again, lately – oh, but there was that one time I woke up at the garden but, um.” He swallowed and sprayed her hair down, following it with a comb to get rid of any tangles. Yeah, he would rather just forget that whole thing even happened, seriously. “It is really nice here, though! I mean, we have our ups and downs, like any place, but it's sort of hard to leave, you know? Anyway, you're from France? That sounds so romantic! Did you have anyone you were sweet on, hm? Or.. do you now?” He paused for a moment before something else hit him – he had no idea where she worked! He was a bit out of the loop, true, but Kade shouldn't be so bad to have missed a new bluenette girl around town! “Where do you work, by the way?”

"Oh, no," Umi said, laughing slightly. Kade's excitement over finding out she was French was sort of amusing (as if the accent didn't give it away, as much as she tried to make it less obvious). "I was too busy with school and the band. But then my father was sick and my parents decided to move here and so I decided to leave school behind for now and come to help my mother care for my father. So I guess now I have time to think of dating. But first I have to meet someone." "Which is hard when mostly I work--oh! I work at the gym," she added, remembering his previous question. "I am a personal trainer there. It is a fun job. I meet a lot of people--but I do not see them outside of work. But at least my co-workers are nice, yeah?" And it was true. She did like her job and it did get her out of the house, which was nice. Still, even though she met people out the gym, she never saw them any other time so it didn't really count as meeting people if it was limited to seeing them at work. "But where do people go to meet others in this town? Is that what the festivals are for?"

Ah~ Roots were so fun to do, especially after having not done them for so long! Well, outside of his back ally business, but he kept that so under wraps it hardly felt like it existed at all! Kade wasn't one to let out a secret, after all~ “Oh, a band! That sounds cool!” He was going to ask her to elaborate because it just really did sound interesting and maybe he could get Junior a date because, well, didn't Junior play on one of those weird guitar like things on his video game system? It was basically like having something in common! Anyway, Kade's mind had gone elsewhere as he heard her answer to his last question – the job. “Oooooh, if you work there, then you must know my brother! Jakey? Jacob? He's always at the gym, you know, or at the church, or anywhere I'm not because he is such a grump.”
And then he would go on and on about the man if he didn't have a question posed at him instead, forcing the scissors trimming Umi's hair to stop for a moment in thought. Or, rather, decision, as there were more than a trillion answers he could come up with! “Weeeellllll, I guess festivals are sort of the go to place, but there's also the bar, which used to be such a hot spot when I was younger, but now I think that the restaurant at the inn is kind of that now or maybe it's the hot spring? There were like so many gatherings there once, of just people meeting and greeting! Oh, but the fountain can work too and.. really, just about anywhere! You can even stop by my house – I have almost thirty-two different 'friends' to meet!” Of course, he was referring to his rabbits and maybe his son, but that could be elaborated later. “I could even introduce you to a few people, if you want? I'm not the social butterfly I was, but I still know a few around your age to help you out!”

"I think it was, yes, cool," Umi said, smiling at Kade through the mirror. "It is an an expression of the soul, no? I was the drummer in that band but we had to break up when I left France. I miss it some, though." She listened to Kade rattle off a list of improbable places to meet others, then offered to introduce her to some people himself. That struck her as rather odd, really. But this was such a small town that she figured such behavior was likely pretty normal. Kade reminded her a bit of her mother's brother Alphonse--very cheery and nice. "Oh yes! I do know Jacob. He comes to the gym..a..." ugh. What was the word she wanted? "Ah...frequently. And he was on my team for the tomato festival, along with my boss. My other co-worker was on another team I think." She smiled slightly. "That was fun. It is a pity but we didn't win. I think Jacob took it very hard, the poor man."

αииα мαяιє ¢σя∂σνα-уσυиg New job and she was nearly late- nearly. Anna pushed the Salon doors open and smiled brightly at her co-workers, "" Sorry I didn't get here earlier to introduce myself," she quipped. She'd only done phone interviews up until that point, not fully sure if she wanted a job at all really. As though. Of course she did. What was the alternative, home? Oh hooray. She bounced to the nail tech station and began rooting around the table, adding small personal touches, such as her framed photo of Bap, her little white pup, and her two boys and a pile of intricately designed business cards. If she was going to do something, it was going to look professional at least. " I'm Anna Marie, pleasure." OOC || She's employed, sooooo hello!

“Oh, yes! I know all about expressions of the soul!” And he would have tried to compare it to like hairstyling but then that just didn't seem as glamorous as being in a band, so he decided to quiet down instead. Kade finished up trimming the woman's hair as she continued to speak, taking his time to brush it back out as he considered what she said. Oh, yes, didn't Jacob look triply as sour after that festival? He remembered being basically banned to go on 'his' side of the island for a week after that. He let out a chortle and rolled his eyes in memory as he set the brush down to get ready on the rooting. He would have to go into the back to get the dye mixed up for her, but, thankfully, Anna had walked in just in time!
He beamed at his little employee and her great timing, though he would have much preferred her to be in earlier considering he was all by his lonesome and he would have really liked to get to know his latest employee some! It felt like he didn't know anything about anyone outside of Haruka – who was that other girl? The make up artist? Leeda? He frowned a bit because, really, it just wasn't right! A salon should be like a little family, not what it was now!
So, with that determination in mind, he spoke to Anna as cheerfully as he could, “I'm Kade Waldroup, owner and salon roustabout. And this,” He pointed to the girl he was working with, “is Umi! She's French.” He threw in with raised brows, because, well, that was pretty impressive to him! France was like the fashion capital! “And she's here to get her roots done. Maybe she wouldn't mind a sample manicure while our nail artist is here?” It would certainly keep her occupied while he finished her roots – that wait was always so boring when he had to let others do it for him.

"Oh, I do not think so," Umi said, "I teach at the gym so I think a manicure would be wasted on me and I cannot grow out my nails properly anyway. But my mother loves to have her nails done so perhaps I shall send her here sometime instead."She felt rather bad about declining but with her work, the likelihood of getting a nail ripped off was pretty igh, so it was best to keep them short. Besides, it would be horrible to jab someone with a long nail while helping them out. And with really short nails, what was even the point of a manicure? In any case, as Kade got to workon her roots, Umi wondered idly if the woman was new. She'd introduced herself and Kade didn't seem to know her. Huh. Well, there must be a lot of new people on the island lately, or something. That was actually a little strange to her because she figured an island this small wouldnt' really attract a lot of people from the outside.

αииα мαяιє ¢σя∂σνα-уσυиg " I understand if you don't want it, but atheletes get them all the time." Anna laughed, her eyes dancing for a brief moment in Kades direction. " Not all manicures result in two inch nails with rhinestones. A manicure and hand treatment relaxes the joints and tendons, giving you better blood flow and younger fresher feeling hands complimented by simple, clean, normal nails." Too many people jumped at labling 'manicure' a girly, sissy thing but there was so much more than that. Technique, style, enrichment--- the way your hands feel after a hot soak in specialized sea salted-water with heat stones working to ebb the pain in each vein away-- Anna loved everything about a simple manicure. While the girls talked, Kade had left to the back room to whip up the dye he needed and come back out to get started on Umi's roots. Really, he hoped he wasn't rushing it too much, but he had been doing this for so many years it felt hard to really screw up even when he was speeding up a bit. Some aspects of the job just became second nature after awhile!
He looked back over at Anna and raised his brows, honestly impressed by the woman, “Oh, wow, now that makes me want to just drop everything to get one!” The man exclaimed as he wrapped up a small section of hair, continuing onto the next as he went on yammering, “You know, she's totally right, though! And it can help so much when it comes to dating – well kept nails are super attractive! It's those little details that people don't realize affect their impression on others – not that I don't think you're having men throw themselves at you left and right, honey.”
He finished up the last of the roots and went to sit down in the next beauty station chair – just give it some time to set in and then he could release a pretty, done-up Umi out into the world! “Speaking of that, have you had any dates recently?” He had asked if she was taken or not, but he didn't recall if she had said she had dipped her hook into the sea since moving there.

"Pretty nails do not go with callouses," Umi said, shrugging. Manicures weren't her thing. She said she'd send her mother over so that should be good enough--she really wasn't one for pampering herself anyway. "I have not...really..." she said to Kade's query about dates. "I did go on a date at the Valentine's festival. But it was not so good. My date was nice? A man named June? But we was distracted the whole time and I think he was upset that his ex-wife was there with someone else? He pointed her out to me and everything--I do not think he is over her yet. Maybe she broke up with him? I do not know.""He got angry and left when I told him to go talk to her..." She smiled at Kade sheepishly through the mirror. That was a pretty pathetic track record wasn't it? Even for someone new to the island. "That is my only date so far. It was not exactly successful."

Kade nodded, not wanting to push it too much because, well, if she wanted to keep her nails all chipped and gross, then it wasn't him to judge! Now, if they were best friends forever and got a little closer, he may start feeling like doing that whole judging thing and do sneak manicures while she was asleep, but that would have to be way later! She was just a customer to gossip with right now and, my, was that some nice gossip! He spared a quick moment to pat her hand consolingly that her only bout with romance had been with some bitter divorcee on a blind date, but his attention hurriedly went on to what details she had said.
“June? Oh, that can't be right – he's playing for the other team now.” ...He wondered – did that girl who ran the blind date mess up or was June back in denial..? Oh, poor Umi to get caught in the middle of such drama! He stood up to finish Umi's roots as he went on, “That's why they divorced in the first place – unless he's in the closet again..? Oh, I hope he's not thinking about getting back together with Yuri, poor girl doesn't need to be strung along again.” He frowned for a concerned moment as he contemplated that, but he would have to find a way to fix that later! He shooed the nail artist out of the way so he could hand Umi a mirror, changing the subject with a cheery, “Done! You're free to go home now! If you ever need another touch up, I'm always here to help!”
