"Oh shut up," Zia said dryly in a tone that could've been playful ribbing, but given the context, they all knew it wasn't. She'd been looking forward to a day with Chris, since all their interaction since that godawful announcement of his marriage had been in groups. The carnival was open, her boyfriend had class, it was a good opportunity. She even rolled out of bed and dressed cute for this, it was going to be like old times!

But nope.

She declared this to be her prediction come true, or at least the beginnings of it, that Chris wouldn't exist outside his marriage and pretty soon everything was going to tank horribly. She was hyperbolic and was taking this as clear evidence and acting out as a result.

"I like how the big top is last on the list," She snarked, flicking a kernel of popcorn at his head. She was mentally going back and forth on whether or not she should stay and resent the situation or just ditch it and let them have their day. But a lot of her decision making process hinged on how rude it would be to bother Chester during his big day.

Noah wasn't entirely sure how he got here. He wasn't exactly a planner and after some 'hey, this looks fun' and wandering, he was suddenly surveying games and wondering if he was on break or just taking the rest of the day off, because ******** if he knew.

Going back to work didn't sound nearly as fun as the roller coaster. Sampling fair food also sounded appealing. It had it's novelty, and was downright delicious when artery clogging. But ultimately he was a floating sort and he was just floating all over the grounds right now, eager to see the sights and get distracted from them on a whim before floating to the next thing.

"EVELYN!" Dana shrieked into her cellphone, stomping her foot. Evie was supposed to take her, but she got busy, so fine. But now she was saying she wasn't showing up at all? Dana was already here!

Well she definitely wasn't going home like her sister requested. Thirteen was old enough to be at a carnival all by herself and she was going to prove it by mostly sneaking around and lying through her teeth when she got home. Which was less proving it but hey, she just wanted to have fun, and take advantage of the fact she met the height requirement for most rides now. Flaky family members be damned.

Arian had meant to get over to the Carnival of Fate earlier, he really had, but as he'd gone to leave he'd noticed up the package lying almost accusingly on the small side table near the apartment door. The self-same package that Arian vaguely remembered guiltily promising Saffy that he would get posted out today.

So he'd ended up taking a trip over to the post office, so as to get the package sent off before heading over to the carnival. Half-wishing as he he did so that he hadn't gotten quite so caught up in the planning of the pair of earrings he was planning to make up as a little surprise for Saffy.

Tonight was the Carnival's opening night and Arian had been pretty excited even since he'd seen a flier for the place.

He finally made it only to find out that there was quite a bit to check out. From rides to a whole big top thing.

Eventually Arian decided to start with the Animal Pens and then mayhaps check out somewhere else later. The horses initially drawing his eye, before moving on to look at the two tigers for a few moments, a slight smile on his face as the big cats made him think of a certain senshi of tigers who was his friend.

As he turned to move on, Arian thought he spotted a couple of familiar faces across the way walking over for a closer look.

"Gwen? Orah?"

He smiled at the other two as he made his way over to them and then hesitated for a moment as he saw another girl heading in Gwen's direction. He was about to call for her to be careful, but appeared to be too late as she seemed to bump into Gwen. Continuing over he asked "Are you okay?" the way he looked from one to the other suggested he was directing the question to both.

Strickenized
Hope it was okay for Arian to notice

Marlin had the day off from the shop and had decided to spend part of it checking out the Carnival place that he'd heard was having its opening night tonight. It was a bit of the trek across town but the variety of things on offer made the trip kind of worth it to his opinion. He wasn't sure how he'd ended up at the House of Mirrors, had initially thought about checking out the rides instead.

But his feet had taken him that way and Marlin hadn't felt like turning back and checking out what else was on offer - at least not yet - plenty of time to go do that later.

It was a shame that the Fun House didn't appear to be open - he could have checked both out at the same time.

Still he mused as he headed for the nearest entrance there was always a next time.

It was dimly lit inside, light glinting dully over the reflective surfaces, as Marlin pondered the direction to take.

“There's not even anything to do at the Big Top,” Paris said, attempting and likely failing to keep his voice conversational when he was already feeling terribly out of place.

Really, this was just awkward. He barely knew Zia at all, and the things he did know about her... well, they were far from reassuring, particularly as he was fairly certain he didn't even have the whole story. He wasn't even sure if he wanted to. Everything about it was weird and complicated and a bit more than he really cared to try and comprehend at the moment.

They were at a carnival. This was supposed to be fun. Instead, he just felt like he'd inadvertantly crashed someone else's date, and the apologizing from Chris and the snark from Zia weren't helping.

He walked a few feet apart from Chris rather than standing a bit closer and holding his hand as he might have done under different circumstances in the hopes that it would help lessen the awkwardness. It didn't. All it accomplished was to make him feel removed from the others, as if he'd done something wrong by showing his face.

“If you guys just wanted to come here without me, you could have just told me,” he said. “It's not like I would have been offended. I could have come with someone else.”

He just wanted to eat some crappy food, go on some rides, and enjoy himself, not spend the evening feeling as if he had no place here whatsoever.

"I'm sorry, okay?" he finished, "But is this really that terrible?"

Benitoite had jumped at the chance to get out and gather energy. Anything to pass a night in some fashion other than wandering his house or wandering the city skyline. The moment he'd heard of Painite's plan he'd jumped the idea and clung to it. He might not have known where he'd be posted but he didn't care to be honest. He just needed something to do. He'd told his new lieutenant, who also was living with him, about it and suggested he sign up as well.He didn't know where the dark haired lieutenant would be assigned, he almost hoped they'd be paired together, but as he didn't see the other he figured it wasn't the case.

The short haired blond had been assigned to the rides, something which he took seriously. As sleep deprived as he was, and over worked, he had his head in the game and his eyes solidly on the prize tonight. At least he'd been using one of those eye rollers to help reduce the dark circles under his eyes, he couldn't imagine what he'd look like if he hadn't started to use the little eye roller.

Even if he didn't have prominent dark circles the blond stood out how could he not? His uniform was quite the sight to be seen. It was because of this that he sat perched high atop one of the rides. This particular ride had been a favorite of his as a child. Little chairs attached to chains which would life off the ground and swing about higher and higher into the air. Looking down at the people milling around like ants he felt a genuine smile curl his lips. He hadn't felt this thrill or rush of adrenalin in a while now and he missed it. He'd let tonight sweep him away and rid him of the dark and depressing thoughts and emotions which had been plaguing him. Tonight was a night of duty and a night to have fun whilst causing chaos. He'd forget that he was to pull starseeds and wait till the enemy would make their entrance, as they surely would do so by nights end. They would be the ones he would rip starseeds from.

He didn't like crowds of people and noisy people he liked even less. But this was better than being at home right now. His mother was working a double shift and his father had managed to not crawl too far into his bottle this evening, at least not by the time Ian had decided to leave the house. His father had been slow in crawling into his comfy little bottle and had taken to yelling, shouting, and being hard to tolerate in general. He didn't know why his father wasn't his usual eager to drink self and he almost wished he would have downed the whole bottle faster, he wished he had the courage to encourage him to drink more or drink faster even. It was just easier to remain at home when his faster was unconscious in the living room.

He'd managed to, somehow, out talk his father and inform him that he was going out to the carnival and would be home at some point. Predictably the man didn't care, didn't wish him safe, or tell him to call if anything happened. He didn't even get told when to be home by, like his mother would tell him. Unsurprised and yet still hurt he had left the house and walked to a more populated road so he could hail and cab.

Now that he was here, and with his ticket purchased, he wondered if this was really a good idea. There were just so many people and they were loud. In a rather bored like manner Ian made his way toward the rides. He had a wallet full of money and was intent upon spending some of it as he tried to fill his night up with something, it didn't seem right to come here and do nothing. He supposed he could have powered up and patrolled around his area but it just hadn't been the first option which had struck him. The first idea had been the carnival. He'd seen the flyers for it for the last month, and scoffed at them every time. And yet when he needed something to do and somewhere to go it had been his first thought. Sticking his hands into the pockets of his jeans he sighed as he pressed his tongue to the back of one of his lower lip piercings. Maybe if he went from ride to ride he could ignore some of the noise of the people around him? Or at least replace that noise with something more attention holding. That in mind he headed for a random line, not even bothering to care which ride the line was for.

Kyndall Darrow

Kyndall thought there were probably more comfortable things she could be doing right now. With an enormous pregnant belly she could imagine herself happy at home cuddling with her husband sipping decaffinated tea. Harmony was the one that wanted to come here, not her, but the teenager had vanished into the crowd and now she and her husband were strolling hand in hand down the quaint boardwalk.

She smiled and shrugged and tried to make the best of it, despite the disappearance of their daughter. She wasn't going to have him try to win her a teddy bear or anything, though it would have been cute. In all honesty just getting out of the house made Kyndall feel very good.

"Have I mentioned recently that I love you?" She purred, squeezing his hand lightly as they strolled.

Harmony Rosen

Harmony had gotten away from her huggy touchy feely mother and stepfather for good reason. Yes, this was supposed to be a family outing but she'd been good and spent time with them. Her mother was too preggo big to move quickly or to want to and the teen wanted to see all of this. The carnival was fun and she was young and carefree. Hell, she was about to graduate high school! If that didn't deserve a celebration nothing did!

She moved into the Big Top and looked around, seeing a few people milling about. She felt a little silly exploring on her own and wished she'd brought a friend or at least agreed to meet one there. The sights and sounds were fun and impressive nonetheless. She delighted in look around. Who knows? Maybe she'd make a new friend to hang out with.

Donovan Flynn/ Vesuvius

Donovan was having fun here! He'd dressed up to make sure he looked good. Dapper, that was what Pappy used to call it. He needed to look dapper when courting young ladies. Flynn preferred dashing by far but dapper worked, so long as he looked it. He slicked his hair back in a suave old fashioned way and dressed like he was something other than a pseudo-transient child. Which he was, really, most of the time.

Carnivals were right up his alley. Not only were they good places to meet women he also got to ride on rides, play games and see shows all in one place. One stop shopping. He grinned and waited in line for the roller coaster, striking up conversation with those nearest to him.

Destiny Kent/Lt. Opal

Destiny missed her girlfriend but she had other things to do tonight. She was new to this whole Negaverse thing and figured that she might as well start with a bang. Painite seemed to have that bang thing wrapped up with this little number so she ditched the structure and decided to go with what felt right. Being bad felt good. She thought of this as a little rebellion from what she understood the Negaverse to be and she liked it!

Why she was around stinking animals she'd never know.

She figured she'd know when it was time to power up and fulfill her purpose so for now she walked among the animals an looked at the lions and tigers and bears, OH MY! The thought made her chuckle to herself as George Takai's voice highjacked the last phrase.

She was careful to observe but not to look creepy, watching kids with their parents and teens milling about looking like they were having a good time. She'd usually be among them, forgetting the cares of the world. Or she'd be in the bar making jokes with her customers and slinging booze and beer. Not a bad way to make a living.

Jessie sighed and wished that her mother had never seen the flyer for the carnival when she was in town for Mother’s day. Somehow the older lady wrangled a promise from Jessie to visit it on opening day and share everything with her. Jessie knew the reason behind the prodding that her parents seemed to have perfected… they wanted to see their little girl happy and, at least in her mom’s case, with a guy. Her mom was kept abreast of any real events in the city via her friends and somehow she got Jessie to go to most of them. Jessie couldn’t even use the excuse of working since she had recently gotten more help at the store. More often than not now Jessie’s days were her own and on today’s agenda was the carnival… oh goodie.

Her first impressions were laughter, lights, fried foods, and crowds. She had a feeling that whoever was running this thing would be gleeful over the amount of people here, and that was only a fraction of people Jessie knew was here. Nearly desperate to get out of the crush of people she headed over to the Animal Pens hoping that it wouldn’t be as crowed as the more popular spots in the carnival. She was only semi right as to the crowds when she got to the pens. There were quite a few people but it seemed to be a bit tamer than the rest of the sprawling complex. It didn’t take her long to become absorbed in watching the lion and tigers and even the bear…. Oh my.

“Oooh, wait, wait, take a picture!”

Marissa came to a stop just as a phone was shoved into her face, and barely had time to slip her own phone into her pocket before being expected to take her friend's.

Were she and Claire Gallo friends? Perhaps that was more of a relative term in this situation. They were related now, though Marissa very much liked to conveniently forget that fact. They got along fine regardless, and she had allowed Claire to pull her out of the house for an impromtu girl's night out, so she figured that meant they were on friendly-ish terms. Not that she had any idea what she'd done to get to this point, but Claire had a way of being... well, it was difficult to say no to her for long.

Marissa aimed Claire's phone and snapped a quick picture, and then returned the device to her... friend... when Claire hopped back over.

“Are you sending that to Peter?” Marissa wondered. She hadn't intended to look over her shoulder but it was difficult when Claire didn't really making a point of hiding what she was doing, or concealing her girlish yet semi-maniacle laughter.

“Yes, why not?” she asked.

“Isn't he grounded?”

“Yes, but I thought he might like to see what he's missing,” Claire said innocently.

“Claire, that's awful,” Marissa said, but laughed in vague amusement all the same.

“Well, when he decides to stop sneaking out at night, then he won't miss out on the fun.”

Marissa shook her head but left the subject be. She had enough problems with her own kids without questioning anything Claire might decide to do to punish her own.

They ambled down the Game Boardwalk, Claire in the lead with Marissa following somewhat reluctantly, occasionally glancing to her niece to make sure she wan't feeling too put out.

“You don't have to hang around with us if you don't want to, you know,” she told Rhiannon. “Don't feel obligated to keep your old aunt company if you wanted to meet up with some friends or something.”

Inside the Mirror House, and stoned off as his a**, Ricky Cunningham was as lost as ever. He had been searching for Haley within the house, but ended up just getting lost himself. He wandered in circles through the house, constantly stopping and ask his own reflection for help only to find his reflections to be thoroughly unhelpful. And he wasn't sure if it was the drugs or some tricks with the mirrors, but he did not like his reflection as they turned his brawny figure into a unrecognizable scrawny or heavy set person.

Alas, Ricky found another human of the non-reflection variety inside the house - a blonde man around his age.

"Hey, yo," Ricky said, reeking of marijuana. "Have you seen a girl? She's like..."

He then made gestures with his hands, as if trying to trace out her body in an imaginary space, but mostly looked like he was just waggling his arms and hands nonsensically in the air...until that is all he was doing, and found himself uncontrollably moving his hands. Eventually, this shifted into him just clapping with no rhythm.

"She's like...a girl? Long hair? Uhm," he forgot who he was looking for. "Sorry, I'm really lost in this place."

In Ainsley McMahon's comfortable arms traveled a little, fluffy guardian cat while watching their surroundings and trying her hardest to control her excitement. The carnival area was so colorful, so lively, so interesting! Cora wanted to explore it all and more but she also knew she should be careful. Large crowths had always a risk to encounter enemy which why she wore a large cat-sized hat that covered her star-shaped forehead sigil. Poor cat, someone might have thought but what they not knew was that this kitty loved dressing up!

Besides, she had others things to worry about now. Ainsley was so small it was hard to see all these interesting devices and booths and stuff behind all these people. Sure, she could always walk but she didn't want to lose Ainsley in the growth. Oh how she wished they could stop for a moment and take a break on couch or something!

Suddenly, Cora felt a little chill as a one agent of Negaverse hurried to his position and passed her and Ainsley. The feeling resolted her to grip Ainsley a little tighter than a moment ago but that feeling was quickly put aside when her eyes spotted the biggest, the most colorful, the flashiest thing she had ever seen. Her pink eyes stared at the ferris wheel full of awe and wonder. How could anything be so grand and beautiful and in a way also a little scary?

"What's that big circle thing?" Cora carefully whispered, looking at Ainsley and then looking back at the wonderful thing.

"Certainly. It is reassuring to be partnered with a familiar face. I trust that you have been well?" Now that Amethyst was no longer feeling lost, his nervousness with regards to how the rest of the evening would go was beginning to show bit by bit in the tone of his voice and his habit of lapsing into small talk to momentarily take his mind off the situation at hand until it came to the time when they were expected to act.

"Captain?" He offered with a soft chuckle. Not his best guess of course, but he was inherently glad that it was Buddingtonite and not someone else whom he would have to acquaint himself with afresh for this particular operation. The redhead's banter didn't bother him one bit at all. In fact, it was kind of endearing and very much a part of what made his ex-fellow Lieutenant who he was. "So how long has it been since your promotion? Do you feel any different from back when you were still a Lieutenant?"

The jovial look on Amethyst's face began to falter at Buddingtonite's next question. "Draining yes. Truthfully with regards to the maiming, not really..." It was his own inability to say no that brought him here really. After all, the Negaverse was a military organization that wouldn't hesitate to discipline anyone who couldn't follow orders and he wasn't the sort to test the boundaries to see what he could get away with. It was with that in mind that he next stood upright and saluted the Captain, his tone serious as he tried to restore what little faith the redhead might have lost with his earlier words. "But I will not defy your orders or that of the other Captains or Generals so I believe that there is really little for concern."

He would fight if he had to. That he was at least clear on at this point.

There were many things Rhiannon Beaumont would have typically done on a weekend, with no school until fall. She could have gone to the stables to ride and take care of the horses. She could have spent a couple hours in the bath with a good book. Or even without the bath! She could have worked on her scrapbook with things she had collected over the past year, keeping up with the bits and pieces of information she'd acquired about the senshi and the war.

Instead, she was with her aunt and the lady who was her cousin's mother-in-law, at a carnival that opened up in the city. No, she hadn't thought of going on her own, but now that she was there, she figured there may be a few things worth seeing. She had her camera with her. It wasn't fancy in the least — more of a point and shoot than anything more advanced. The thought of the cost of a DSLR camera made her balk. This crappy little camera that could take a decent picture the size of a postcard suited her just fine.

Rhiannon shook her head in response to her aunt's concern, not minding as much as she was sure Marissa thought she did. The people she could do without, but as long as she kept her head down and didn't spend too long watching as deepfried Twinkies were shoved down people's throats, she figured she wouldn't feel too disgusted. "I don't mind," she said with a small smile as she followed Marissa down the Game Boardwalk, not wanting to admit that she really didn't have many friends she'd consider trying to meet up with. She wasn't as confident in herself as she was as Varuna, but as long as she had someone to follow after, she figured this carnival thing would be okay.

Michael Gallo was, surprisingly, not there on a date. Instead he had decided to meet up with a few of his buddies from high school to see how things were going on in their lives. Unfortunately, that got old rather fast. Apparently, of his friends, he was one of the only ones who'd actually matured. Which if anyone has met Michael... it might have been surprising.

Never the less, he was already at the carnival and wasn't going to waste the night. It took almost no time to spot someone he knew, anyway, and approached Marissa with a grin on his face. "Hello, ladie--" he started, eager to introduce himself to her two blond friends as well, only to have his face blanching when he realized he recognized them. "Mom??" he sputtered, grimacing and practically reeling back.

"Cupcake!" she beamed, spinning around to greet her eldest son, throwing her arms around him and tossing her phone back to Marissa. "Quick, take a picture! I want to show Peter that Michael's here, too!"

Well, he couldn't say that he really wanted to hang out with his mother that night, but it couldn't possibly be that bad, right...? "Isn't Peter grounded?" he frowned, glancing from his mother to Marissa and the girl he knew as Paris's cousin, Rhiannon. His mother simply shushed him and smiled for the camera.

Sunshine Alouette

"Zia," Chris said with a disapproving frown, not too happy that she was being difficult when they were there to have fun. ""It's not last on the list... It's third." He tried his best not to sound exasperated with her. She had a way of blowing certain things out of proportion and he was usually okay with handling that, but when the situation had been unintentional, she could at least be a little more receptive to the idea of, you know... having a good time.

"Paris, I did want to come with you. I thought you didn't want to go so I invited Zee, you know that," he reiterated pointlessly since they were all there now, anyway. "You have nothing to be sorry for, and damnit Zee, stop throwing things at me," he snapped, his patience and temper already running thin. There were already so many people there that he wasn't able to focus as much as he'd like and it resulted in him getting worked up. "Sorry... Just... is it so horrible for you to hang out and get to know each other as well??"

Maybe he would like for his partner and best friend to know each other better. They were both so important in his life that he didn't think this squabbling was necessary in the least. To try and make his point stronger, he reached out to take hold of Paris's hand and nodded towards the nearby food booth. "Come on, I'll buy. Pick something other than popcorn, Zia," he requested, sounding worn down now that a bit of his temper had exploded and passed.

Marissa tried to force a smile in response to Michael's presence, but it ended up looking more like a pained grimace.

She took the phone that was once again tossed in her direction and snapped a quick picture without doing much else to acknowledge Michael's arrival. Claire was quick to snatch the phone back once Marissa was done, and went about sending the newest picture to her youngest son who likely hadn't even had the time to apporpriately process the last one.

“He keeps playing these make believe games,” Claire explained, her smile sweet and her tone girlish the whole time. “Thinks he's a superhero saving the city from monsters. It's so sweet, except I've caught him trying to sneak out of the house more than once...”

Marissa choked and coughed to recover, finally forcing herself to meet Michael's eye with a look of mixed concern and disbelief.

“Sorry,” she said when her coughing fit garnered Claire's attention. “I... uh... inhaled something.”

“Silly,” Claire responded, and then went right back to fawning over her son. “Why don't you come with us, Cupcake? Oh, are you meeting friends? A girl?” she gasped. “Are you meeting a girl? Can I meet her? You never introduce me to anyone you're dating!”

“Didn't you say you wanted to play some of the games?” Marrisa tried, not really very interested in hearing about Michael Gallo's love life.

Or anyone's, for that matter.

Kid superheros and monsters, though? Yeah, she'd like to hear about that.

Now don't get the wrong idea because Ainsley loved to go to school but ever since she had gotten wind of the carnival opening she couldn't sit still long enough to focus. She was twelve years old now and she'd never been to a carnival before! The week had gone by longer than the last week before Christmas break and now that the day was finally here Ainsley had practically skipped all the way home.

There she had found Cora waiting, and after changing out of her uniform and into her polka dotted dress and tights, the two of them left. Walking down the street, the two of them looked as if they had been pulled out of a Norman Rockwell painting. The adorable little sunhat that Cora had on her head to cover her star-shaped forehead sigil was but a pair of matching sunhats, and Ainsley wore the other. In a way, this made the strange notion of a cat wearing a hat into something more sweet with the obvious nature.

Cora might not have had the best view but it was more than Ainsley could have dreamed up. Ice blue eyes lit up as they took in everything there was to see. The carnival was bigger than Ainsley expected it to be, and she hugged Cora firmly against her. If they got lost in such a large, foreign place there was no guarantee they would find each other again until both gave up and returned home.

"That big circle thing?" She found herself asking as she looked around to find the source. At first Ainsley was looking in the wrong direction. Instead of looking up, Ainsley was looking around the things she could see at her own level. After a moment though, Ainsley's eyes fell on the wheel in the sky. It wasn't far from where they were, and with a good pace Ainsley's rose pink shoes clicked on the ground with haste until they had an even better view of it.

"It's a Ferris Wheel," she exclaimed with excitement.

Nicole Walter was off-duty when she arrived at the carnival. She hadn't exactly been thrilled about leaving work but after she'd finished all the paperwork and then some extra paperwork the overzealous woman found herself looking for other things to do. For some reason, carnival visiting wasn't too far down the list of possibilities. Given Nicole's job and hobbies, it was no real shocker that she was excited about grabbing a bite to eat and then hopping on a few rides before she went home to clean the bathroom.

Everything that was on the list of things she might do was placed on hold when she seen Mr. Connolly, a grin coming to her already smiling face. With a bit of familiarity, she hopped over to him with a bit of a skip in her step. Now more than ever, the height difference between the two was astonishing. She found herself looking up to him when she announced herself.

"So, on a scale of 1-17 Waverly St, just how lethal is the food here?"

"Right and there's so much to do at the rides besides sit in a moving chair."

Zia's half lidded and entirely unamused expression stayed in place, with the exception of the giant eyeroll at Chris' plea to stop flicking things at him. She had been unpleasant in her usual, sarcastic way when things weren't working out, but apologizing and whining wasn't getting it through her head it was on the rude side.

"Oh calm down, ladies," She sighed, but she wasn't about to lay all her feelings about the situation on the table either.

"It's not that bad, no one needs to get so worked up," She finally declared, sounding like she was conceding.
