Burning Bush laughed. Oh to be young! To entertain such doubts! Her eyes glinted with both amusement and a sort of pity. But never let it be said that Burning Bush was merciless, for she saw fit to help the young buck. The doe settled back down, her tail dipping dangerously close to the surface of the pond.

"There are many who seek what you seek and few that find it. But come child, stare into these waters, rest, sleep, dream, and perhaps we shall help you find even a glimpse of yourself."

He did not miss the glint of what he suspected was pity and if he was honest with himself, it annoyed him. The buck watched the doe with a new hint of coldness in his gaze, but when she spoke, he nodded.

"Very well... He shifted, put his head on the soft ground and turned his gaze to the untroubled water of the pool. If there was anything to see, he would embrace it.

The black water was unmoving. Burning Bush did not have to look into it to know that she would only see her reflection staring back. Such was the water of these ponds, they might seem small but they were unfathomably deep. And here, where the Motherfather was closest, sometimes the waters gave way to... other things. Images from dreams or the past, or even the future.

She waited. If he saw something he would speak up and she could help, but if he didn't then it simply meant that he still had a ways to go. Burning Bush settled her head on the cool grass. Even if she wanted to help The Killing Moon, she could not until he himself was ready. Such was the way of the swamp.

In time, his eyes closed and he slipped into a light sleep. It seemed a peaceful slumber, but when he finally awoke, the buck rose swiftly to his hooves and stared down at Burning Bush with the faraway gaze of someone still lost in a dream.

"Thank you..." He murmured softly. If he had seen anything, he refused to speak of it. Those dreams were his alone.
