"Hm," was the young lad's reply, a simple smile on his face.
"I'm afraid it is far too disrespectful for you to take back a gift. I couldn't allow you to put yourself in such a position. Now, come along," he said, reaching for her hand to pull her into the darkness with him.

Alatriel felt like she was going to burn out the sun with the heat coming off her cheeks in a flurry of rage and embarrassment that seemed to exponentially increase when he grabbed her hand and pulled her along.
Other than a tug and a whining whimper that announced tears showing up in all this mess, she didn't put up much of a fight until an arrow with brightly colored fletching whizzed by and rooted itself into a tree trunk dangerously close to Nicholas' face. Alatriel would've followed obediently just out of a dislike of fighting and conflict, but seeing the distinct design made her jerk her hand out of his suddenly.
"Getting into trouble, little one?" A voice cooed as a tall woman appeared to scoop up both of her hands and pull her close.
"T-.... Tariel, I'm sorry!" She practically squawked. 'Tariel' was a stark contrast to the dirty little girl with leaves in her hair and mud on her feet. The woman was well groomed with delicate white curls hanging down her shoulders and the sleek form of her ornately embroidered dress. But behind her was a much more aggressive figure dressed in leather armor and holding the bow that had nearly taken Nicholas out moments earlier.
"Priestess, I'd advise you take a step back. Looks like one of Invaldi's brats has gotten lost," The sneer was evident even behind a helmet, the arrow was being aimed again already.

Success had been right within Nicholas' grip but with a shot of an arrow any facade that had been up in front of Alatriel had immediately been dropped when that arrow nearly took off his head. He spun around as the girl let go of his hand, the fabric of his outfit filling the space around him like a fire. He no longer had his deep purple eyes on Alatriel, instead falling on the woman with the delicate white curls.
"You missed," he said with a mischievous smile growing on his face. "Ivaldi Archers don't miss so maybe you should get off our land."
In the dark woods behind Nicholas was the glimmer of silver and purple, the tips of several arrows gleaming. Who would leave an heir of the Ivaldi alone so close to enemy lines? Certainly not Nicholas' father.

"You're the one treading the boarder and taking--"
"That's enough," Tariel cooed quietly as she stroked Alatriel's flushed and panicked face and brushed away a stray curl, but it was enough to shut up the archer.
"I think today is best ended taking our respective children and parting ways, don't you think?" Her voice was a quiet whisper, and she never broke eye contact with Ala's worried face.
But she boldly stood up from her crouch and pulled the girl along with a firm hand.
Ala's mind was swirling with confusion about what had just happened. Her new friend wasn't her friend? And she never got her flower back! She looked back over her shoulder as she let herself be pulled along obediently looking back at the dark corner of the forest, trying to sort it all out in her head.
Politics were confusing.
