Cosine winced a little as Kyrie bounced on her lap and gave her a tight hug.
"We can find one right now." She kept her arm around Kyrie and stood, shifting her onto her hip. She carried her to the shelves and reached out for one of the notebooks her aoide had made from gathered paper and binding.
"This one is about the right size." She smiled, "What do you think?"

Kyrie held tightly to her mother as she was shifted around and played gently with her hair as she searched her shelves too. When the book was produced, she reached out for it and admired it. It was the prettiest thing she had been given, she decided.
"I like it. It's perfect," she grinned and brought her other hand around to gently trace her fingers along its cover. "I bet we're gonna fill the whooooole thing," she grinned and looked up at her mother.

"Well I think we certainly could." The goddess walked back to the desk and picked her quill up and the ink. She carried everything, and Kyrie through to one of the lounging spaces where they had low tables that they both could work at. Carefully she knelt down on the floor and set Kyrie down.
"Right, now what do you want to keep a record of?"

Kyrie quickly moved to get comfy beside her mother and opened her book on the low table.
"I wanna write about my treasure box," she declared, looking up at her. "I'll go get it!" she smiled and bounced up on her feet to go running. Several moments later her feet hitting the floor could be heard echoing down the halls and she returned to flop down beside her mother. Between her hands was a simple carved box she had "borrowed" from her daddy's space. "Here we go," she smiled and set it down as she caught her breath.

Treasure box, that was cute, Cosine thought as she watched Kyrie charge off to her room. Though she was not surprised in the slightest that she was a little hoarder. She was Crow after all. By the time Kyrie returned Cosine had sorted out the quill and written 'Property of Kyrie, an inventory of treasured things' on the inside cover in her careful script.
"Oh, well this is exciting." She grinned as the box was placed on the table. "Here, you can write number one."

Kyrie fluffed her feathers proudly at her mother's praise and she reached to take the quill from her. Trying her absolute hardest to write as neat and pretty as her mother, she managed to scrawl out a slightly wobbly number one. Looking up at her mother, she clacked her beak and held the quill out to her.
"There!" she declared and turned to open her box. "Should we list my box?" she asked as she rummaged inside of it to find her most favourite thing first.

Cosine watched her make the wobbly mark with a smile.
"That's lovely Kyr, and we should list the box, it should definitely be number one. Write box next to it, that's an easy word I'm sure you can write it yourself." She pointed to the line where Kyrie should write the three letter word.

Kyrie looked down at the paper at her mother's encouragement and abandoned her search to pick up the quill again.
"Box. Buh..." she started, sounding out each letter and writing it as neatly as she possibly could on the line. After writing "boks" she looked up at her mother and fluffed her feathers happily. "There!" she declared, then remembered to write the number two. Quickly she leaned back down and scrawled out a crooked two on the next line, then abandoned the quill to dig in her box. After a moment, she pulled out a handful of bones. She really liked the way they felt and sounded.

Now the old Cosine would have told her that her spelling was wrong and make her do it again. Reborn Cosine did not think it was that big a deal, she was trying and that was the main thing. Maybe one day, when she was grown she would look back at the notebook and it would bring good memories.
"Oh, bones, let's write that." The goddess went to reach for a quill and then had an idea. "Oh I know, stay there one moment." She pushed herself up and disappeared into her office. When she returned she had a worn pencil in her hand.
"I will write it in this and you can trace over my letters." She sat back on the floor and started to write bones in very careful, big writing.

Kyrie looked up as her mother disappeared and tilted her head in curiosity. When she returned, she leaned on the table and watched her write the word next to her number two. Picking up the quill, she carefully traced over each of her mother's letters, then looked down at her treasured bones.
"Do I write how many?"

"Yes, now how many are there?" Of course Cosine could look at the pile and know instantly. However she wanted Kyrie to count, afterall this was a lesson disguised as a fun activity.

Kyrie studied her bones for a moment, as if deciding the best way to go about counting them. Straightening them out, she picked them up one by one and set the counted bone off to the side.
"Eight! I have eight. This one is my favourite," she smiled as she caressed the final one still in her hand. "Daddy gave it to me." Reaching over, she set it down lovingly and picked up her quill. "Where do I write it?"

"That is very pretty." She smiled and pointed a finger next to the word 'bones' to show where Kyrie should put her number. "Maybe we could get your father to make a necklace fo you. He's very good at making pretty things from bone."

Kyrie blinked and looked up at her mother. That was the best suggestion she had ever heard ever!
"Do you think Daddy would make me one? I would wear it all the time," she exclaimed, her task of writing numbers completely forgotten for the moment.

"Of course he would." Now, let's move on to number three. "Right here."
