Burned!
"Vera, come on!" Zeraphina yipped. "We're going to be late for our first day of work if you don't stop checking your fur!" Sometimes Zera didn't know what to do with her friend Veronica, the vulpix was so obsessed with her own reflection that it didn't seem like she was a Pokemon at all! After a moment of so more of waiting at the corner, Zeraphina sighed and decided to wander forward without her, she'd rather be on time without her friend than be late with her.
The city streets were a buzz with people that day, but it was hotter than usual. Zera pulled her beanie cap back towards her ears and panted. Jeez, could it get any hotter? The sidewalk was practically boiling! Little paws hopped around on the pavement in order to avoid the horrible burning sensation. "Yeooow! This BITES!" She screamed.
"What is is nooow?" Veronica sighed, nuzzling up to Zeraphina. She had finally finished prettying herself for her future employers, whoever they were, and skipped to catch up with Zera. However, as she watched her friend "dance" along the sidewalk like some sort of idiot, she found herself rolling her eyes. "Oh, is the sidewalk too hot for you?" She scoffed, fluffing her fur. "Well, you're just a feeble Zorua, of course you're going to burn up! I for one, being such a gorgeous Vulpix, can't feel a thing!" She giggled. "I'm already as hot as I can become!"
Zeraphina stared daggers at Veronica for a moment. UGH, at times she wondered why she bothered being friends with such a pompous girl. She hobbled a few paces, keeping one eye on her smug little friend, and slowly, a smirk came to her face. "Oh, so you're as beautiful as you will ever be at this moment...?" She said, the area around her becoming shadowed and cool. "Then I suppose when you evolve, you'll be as average as any other Ninetales out there!" She cackled and continued along the sidewalk, the shadows providing a cooling dome around her. "How very dull you will be!"
"THAT ISN'T WHAT I MEANT! NOT AT ALL!" Veronica screamed, barreling after Zeraphina. Oooo! That was so rude, so very very rude! It shook her up, it made her angry! "YOU APOLOGIZE TO ME RIGHT NOW!"
"Why should I?" Zeraphina said, tilting her head towards Veronica. "Didn't anyone ever tell you that when you play with fire, you're going to get burned?" She began to cackle again and darted down the sidewalk. She had been waiting to use that line ALL DAY! Maybe, finally, that jerk would know what it felt like to be teased all the time! The thought of Veronica asking her for forgiveness made her feel evily cheerful, and it showed on her face.
A twisted sort of grin emerged as she padded into "Catch 'Em All!" the place she had applied to work at not too long ago. She leaped up onto the desk and sat down, waiting for Veronica to come wandering in. Oh, she was going to be so upset! This was going to be great!
But when she didn't appear for more than five minutes, Zera's conscience began to beat her up. She sighed, whined and paced around until finally she hopped off the desk and peered outside. To her surprise, Veronica was standing right outside the door, completely drenched with water! She stared at her friend, a dumbfound look on her face, before Veronica simply pushed her aside and sat under the desk. Zera blinked and tip toed over to her side, nudging her.
"What happened to you...?" She muttered, fixing the bow that sat upon Vera's orange fur.
Vera huffed, nuzzled up to Zera, and flopped on her side. "After you ran off," She began. "A kid came by and squirted me with a hose, thinking I was over heated or something..."
Zera blinked and had to hold back another bought of laughter. Well, that was an interesting alternative to a BURN HEAL!

Bubbles And Troubles
There was something about taking a bath that Veronica thoroughly enjoyed. The warm water, the scent of the soap, and the fact that all of her troubles seemed to melt away. Not that this young lady regularly had troubles, she was a good girl, but the need to relax was certainly always there!
Aaah, yes, a nice warm bath in her favorite place, the home of her trainer and dance partner, Angelique Jokanri. The home was rather spacious and lovely, filled with pink and gold, yes, a place fit for the princesses of ballet! While her trainer was away at her lessons for the day, Princess Veronica would relax and take her mind off of the world outside.
"So, you're just taking a bath..." Said a familiar voice from the windowsill above Veronica's head.
"Eeek!" Veronica squeaked, dunking herself underwater. Who in their right mind would disturb her while she bathed?! Brown eyes peered up out of the water and locked upon Zeraphina, who stood at the edge of the windowsill. "ZERA!? Oh, goodness! I thought you were some sort of pervert!" She sighed and floated back to where she had been before, laying her head on the porcelain tub, and waved Zera in. "Come on in, sweetheart! There's plenty of room for you!"
Zeraphina raised a paw and tensed up, her fur arching. No way was she getting in the bath tub! She shook her head profusely and sat, her tail swishing from side to side. "No, that's fine!" She replied. "I... I don't need a bath!"
"Nonsense, dear!" Veronica yipped, leaping up to the windowsill. "You've been out in that dirty old city all day! You need a good cleaning, missy!" Without another sound, Veronica nudged Zeraphina off the windowsill and into the water below. Then, as she was about to hop back in, Zeraphina started to try to claw her way out the other side of the tub. "What on Earth are you doing?!" She screamed. "You'll get the entire room SOAKED!"
"WATER! I DON'T LIKE WATER!" Zeraphina howled, finally gripping onto the side of the tub. There, she panted and sighed, glaring daggers at Veronica. "I had family that drowned! I don't want to drown, too!"
Veronica's ears pinned back. Zeraphina had a phobia of water! Oh, she had done such a terrible thing by pushing her in! What an awful friend she was! She doggy paddled her way over to Zeraphina and gave her a nudge to help her out of the tub before moving to unplug the drain under the water. Once she had finished, she leaped out of the tub and handed a very shaken Zeraphina a towel to dry herself off with. "I am so sorry, I had no idea that you had lost someone to drowning!" She cried, nuzzling Zeraphina's cheek. "Please, dear, let me make it up to you..."
"I-It's alright, V-Vera-a..." Zera said, burrowing into the fluffy towel she had been given. Water was one of the things she hated to touch. She was fine with drinking it or being sprayed with it on a hot day, but being bathed or going swimming were absolute no-nos for her. She stood there next to Veronica, her little body stiff from the experience, until the door to the bathroom swung open.
"Oh, poor dears! You poor little dears!" Cried the maid that had opened the door. "Come come, let me dry you!" She scooped Veronica and Zeraphina up into her arms and quickly went to drying them off. "Who left you in such a state? You could catch a cold, poor dears!"
"Thank you, Katie!" Veronica yipped, though the woman couldn't understand her. Once she was dry and dressed again, she watched as the maid set to drying and dressing Zeraphina. Though she longed to see her friend in a girly ensemble, she nosed Zera's purple beanie cap towards the maid and yipped.
"What is this, Vera?" Katie asked, peering at it. She held it towards Zeraphina and smiled. "It belongs to your friend, yes?"
"Yes, that's mine! Please give it back!" Zeraphina whined, only to frown as Katie turned around. "Hey! Give it back!"
"It is stained with grease, poor little hat!" Katie cooed. "It will need a good washing before it can be worn again." She left Vera and Zera in a very pink, frilly room and headed down the hall. "You play together while I clean and mend it for you! Be back in a minute!"
"We'll be right here, Katie!" Veronica chirped. She turned towards Zeraphina and gasped. "My goodness, your fur! It... It's so..."
Zeraphina stared daggers at Veronica again, a large tuft of pink fur falling upon her face. "PINK. I KNOW." She growled, pushing it backwards. "That's why I wear the cap! I don't like how pink the fur on the top of my head is!" She turned her back to Veronica and whimpered. "I was running through a store a few months ago and a bottle of permanent dye fell on my head... It hasn't washed out yet!"
Veronica giggled and nuzzled Zera on the side of her head. "You may not appreciate it, but I think it looks quite nice with your black fur!" She chirped. "But, if it hasn't washed out in months, it's certainly because you haven't tried to wash it out!"
Zera shook her head several times. "I have! I have!" She cried. "I've dunked my head in water, despite being so scared of choking, and nothing worked!" She whined. "I don't know what to do!"
"Well..." Veronica said, pondering. "Did you try using soap...?"
Zera stared blankly at Veronica for a moment and looked to the floor. "No, I didn't try that yet..." She mumbled. "Should I try it out...?"
"You certainly should!" Veronica chirped, tugging Zera back towards the bathroom. "I will gladly help you wash it out, if you trust me to put you back in the bath tub."
"No way am I getting back in the bathtub!" Zera yelped. "I could faint and drown or choke to death!"
"Not while I'm standing beside you!" Veronica assured, turning the sink faucet on. "But if you're afraid of how deep the tub is, why don't you stand here in the sink where the water can't reach your head?"
Zeraphina paused, giving the sink a once over, before nodding. "That won't hurt me, I don't think." She agreed. "Let's do it!"
-----
About an hour later, Katie the maid came back to find the bathroom drenched in water and two very wet foxes attempting to fix a broken faucet handle. She hustled Zera and Vera out of the bathroom and left them in the bedroom before hurrying to fix the faucet. "Ooo, your mommy is going to be so cross, Veronica!" Katie cried as she dried them off again. "What on Earth made you two play with that blasted faucet?!"
"My hair woman! MY HAIR!" Zeraphina barked, the top of her head now back to her beloved shade of red. "That's what!"
Katie sighed, but mustered a smile towards Zeraphina. "No need to be loud," She said, placing the now clean beanie cap back on Zera's head. "I've cleaned it nicely for you, dear! But, I'm afraid it's color had been changed ever so slightly..."
The color? What happened to the color of her cap?! Zera took one look upwards and gasped, IT WAS MAGENTA! How did it get MAGENTA?! Her eyes snapped to Veronica as the maid left the room again. "Explain to me how my cap is no longer PURPLE..." She seethed. "You have five seconds..."
"You must've put it on while the pink hair dye was still wet!" Veronica sighed, rolling her eyes. "The pink dye changed the inside of the hat and, thus, when it got washed, it mixed with the purple color in the hat!"
"Uuuuugh!" Zera growled. First her hair, now her favorite cap! Was nothing sacred from the PINK VIRUS?! "Is there any chance we could sneak back into the bathroom and wash this out, too...?"
"I doubt it, Zera..." Veronica sighed, nuzzling Zera again. "It looks pretty set, it won't be coming out..." She looked around the room for a second before smiling at Zeraphina again. "I know! I have paint! We could use that to re-dye your hat back to purple!"
Zeraphina grinned and snuggled against Veronica. "That sounds like an awesome idea!" She squealed, bouncing. "Let's get started!"
Veronica and Zeraphina hopped out of the bedroom and into a room filled with art supplies and musical instruments. Veronica grabbed as much purple paint as she could find and brought it all back over to where Zeraphina stood waiting with the not-purple cap at her feet. Quickly, they opened all of the paint bottles and quickly set to working on turning the magenta hat purple once again. However, as the were splattering the paint around and getting the job done, Veronica looked down at her tutu and screamed.
"MY TUTU! IT'S SPLATTERED PURPLE!" She spun around and whined. "What am I going to do?!"
"Don't panic! You can always paint it back, right?" Zeraphina questioned, motioning to an entire set of pink paints to her side.
"I guess I could! Hand me a few of those!" Veronica squeaked, shimmying out of her tutu. Pink paint bottle after pink paint bottle was popped and poured until the desired color for her tutu was reached. 'THERE! Now it's perfect!" She moved to put her tutu back on but grimaced at how heavily coated with paint it was. "Perhaps I used too much! What are we going to do with all the extra paint?"
Zeraphina, who had already placed her purple paint laden cap on her head, scratched her chin and pondered. "Hm..." She muttered, gazing to the side. As she gazed, she noticed an entire stack of blank canvases laid up against a wall and grinned. "We could dump it all on those! They're for painting on, anyway!"
Veronica squealed and leaped over to the canvases, pulling out about five giant ones. "You're a genius, Zera!" She cried, smearing all the extra paint on top of the white canvas. "Quick, get rid of the excess on your hat before it dries into a hardened rock!"
"Way ahead of you, Vera!" Zera nodded, smearing her cap against the canvases. Somewhere along the way she raised her head to look at Veronica. "Hey! We're being painters, here!" She said, bounding over to the rest of the paints in the room. "We could totally make this into something that we do together! Like, we could be famous Pokemon artists, or something!"
"THAT'S AN AWESOME IDEA!" Veronica squealed, grabbing as many bottles of paint as she could. "We'll be known all around the world as the one and only fox painters! That would be like a dream!"
----
The pair popped all of the paint bottles in the room, which could have easily been a thousand or more, and set to painting. They tried to paint birds, they drew clouds, they even painted themselves in the middle of it all! Hours went by like minutes as they busied themselves, each taking a turn making an idea or a corner look better. Soon enough, they were pooped, and decided that it was time to leave the paintings to dry. Veronica and Zeraphina wandered down the stairs and into a small sitting room to curl up for a nap.
"Today was fun, Zera." Veronica yawned. "You should come over more often..."
"Yeah, it was..." Zeraphina replied, eyes closing. "Just let me know when I can come over, and I will... 'Kay...?'
"No problem, Zera..." Veronica said, nuzzling into the cushions of the couch she was on.
It wasn't too long after that Katie came rushing in, having just discovered the paintings and the ruined floor they were sitting upon. But as her eyes laid upon the pair of baby foxes cuddling upon the couch, her anger softened and a sigh came from her lips. "Alright, you're off the hook..." She said, placing a blanket upon them. "But, next time you play together, please don't cause so much trouble..."

Two Foxes, One Star
It was around midnight in the city and only the sounds of the nightlife downtown could be heard echoing through the otherwise quiet atmosphere. The sky was relatively clear and bright, the stars twinkling in a odd fashion. Towards the edge of town, just before the sidewalk ended and the first residential houses began, stood Veronica and Zeraphina, sharing a midnight snack together as they wandered back to Veronica's house from work.
A warm steak burrito was what was on the menu for tonight's late night chow, and being that one of them disliked spicy foods, it was sans Zera's usual "triple hot blood boil" sauce. She didn't mind it, Veronica seemed content licking the smokey flavored sauce off her mouth, and if it kept her quiet, it was always a plus. They traveled side by side as always, each munching on their own half of the burrito, until Veronica stopped dead in her tracks, her eyes glaring straight up into the sky.
"That star!" She screamed, dropping about a fourth of her burrito onto the sidewalk. "I think it's going to crash right into that house over there!"
"Don't be ridiculous!" Zeraphina sighed, biting off a good sized chunk of her half before continuing. "Stars don't fall all the way to Earth! They always burn up in the sky before they can touch anything below it!"
But Zeraphina was wrong, at least this time. The star hurtled down towards them and crash landed upon the concrete. The rest of Zeraphina's burrito found it's place next to Veronica's as both girls lunged forward, eager to inspect the star.
"OHMYGOD VERONICAAAA!" Zeraphina screamed, clamoring up on top of the star. "THIS. THIS IS SO..." She paused, unable to find the correct words to describe how she felt. Soon, she felt her eye lids growing heavy. "Mmm... I'm getting sleepy..." She mumbled, curling up into a ball. "Night Vera..."
"SLEEP?! ON A STAR?!" Veronica exclaimed, leaping up after Zera. "You can't possibly expect me to let you sleep upon this star! I mean, REALLY, ZERAPHINA!" She nudged her sleeping friend, who made no movements in return. "AUGH! COME ON, ZERA!" She whined, her own body sinking down onto the star. "We have to get hooommme!" Her body began to relax and her eyes started to close. "An-gel-ique w..Will b...Be cccon...Concernnnedd..."
And just like that, two otherwise energetic foxes had fallen asleep upon that one giant star.
