Vollerei smiled in relief when the berries came into view. They were ripe and ready to eat! And luckily nothing else had eaten them yet!
"Oh good! They're ready to eat. Now I can munch on these and fill Zweil up long enough for me to hunt my food!"
She walked over, and checked the surround area for prey or predators. You could never be too careful int eh wild. Satisfied that there wasn't anything, she settled down and plopped Zweil down in her lap.
"Here fluff-ball, stuff yourself on these!" She said as she handed him some and munched on some herself.

Zweil was happy; sweet stuff! Oh so tasty juicy sweet stuff! More mommy! Wanna eat more! He chirped eagerly after gulping down his small handful, looking expectantly up at Vollerei.

Vollerei hadn't heard anything, but this half breed had. Deciding that since Zuri was older than her and had lived around here longer she would know more, Volle patted Zweil on the head and told him to be good and stay here before she handed him to Zuri.

Zweill was unsure of what was happening but he saw that mommy had the hunting look on her face. Meat! Yeah, meat to go with sweet stuff! But why I have to stay behind? Wanna go with mommy. Zweil chirped sadly and gave the not-mommy a sad look.

Vollerei chuckled as she nodded thanks to Zuri before leaping up to a nearby branch and quickly clambering up the tree into the canopy and heading towards the direction Zuri had indicated. She was eager to have meat herself. Zweil usually ate most of it.

She soon spotted a large Sumudu. It was about the same length as Zweil and the only reason she spotted it was because it was moving along a tree that didn't match its coat. Otherwise she'd have never seen it. She grinned, Sumudu were pretty tasty! They had an interesting texture, but Vollerei liked it.

Vollerei grabbed her primitive rock knife from her bag and jumped on top of the Sumudu, sliding the sharp edge into it's brain. A quick and clean kill, she grinned triumphantly. Meat! She looked around to make sure no other predators were nearby and then scurried up the tree and headed back to Zuri and the animals.
Zweil was happily distracted from his missing mother by food. Sweet stuff good! More not-mommy, more! As he cheeped demanding, he spotted Vollerei returning, food in hand. Mommy! Food for me! Yes? Tasty meat with sweet stuff is good maybe? He fluffed himself up and flapped his wings impatiently. Even though he'd eaten already, he was always willing to stuff himself more!

"Hey Zuri, found this!" Vollerei held up the Sumdu, "Don't know if you've ever eaten them before, but they're rather tasty when cooked." She grinned, her scars stretching.
"I'll have to get a small fire going..." She muttered and looked around for a spot away from the bushes to put a fire pit.

Vollerei looked at the location Zuri had pointed too. It had no plants nearby and there was already a small put, good! She chuckled at Zweil's reaction and demanding cheeps.

"You get to wait, Fuzz-ball! You've already had some meat today, this is for me and Zuri! Hold on to him still would you, Zuri? Zweil tends to jump at food and he hasn't yet learned that fire is bad and will burn him so..." She shrugged. Perhaps she should let him burn himself to teach him, but she didn't want to have he baby kinfa get hurt. She must be getting soft...

Going over to the small hole, she laid the dead critter on the ground and set her fire rocks next too it. She deepened the pit a bit and grabbed some dry leaves and branches and dumped them in the shallow hole. She carefully smashed her rocks together to get the spark she needed, and once the spark caught, she carefully fed it till it was a small fire.
"Oh good, now to let the bug roast then we'll shell it and eat it!"

Vollere nodded in agreement to Zuri's statement but didn't respond right away, since she was absorbed in preparing the food. Once it was wrapped in leaves to keep the fire from burning it too much, she covered it in the smoldering grass and turned to Zuri.

"I learned to cook real quickly when I was young. Since I got hungry before meal times and my mothers would never cook anything unless it was a meal time, if I wanted to eat I had to hunt and cook it myself. I always carry my fire rocks with me and a small handful of dried grass to start it with if it rains and I can't find anything dry." She smiled and grabbed Zweil before he got too close to the fire.

"I've tried catching and eating most animals in the jungles of Chibale Islands and tasted a lot of plants too. Plus I always ask any of the elders what you can use to cook safely and what's bad for you. Jahaur isn't too much different, though there are some new creatures. I'm hoping to find even more tasty food in the other lands! It's why I'm traveling right now." She liked her lips at the thought of all those delicious and new foods just waiting for her to eat.

Vollerei looked over at Zuri and smiled, "If I ever visit Zena, I'll be sure to look them up! Can I ask why you've left your home and come here?" They had some time before the meat was cooked enough so why not find out why this strange woman was here. Vollerei knew why she wanted to go wandering, but was certain that others didn't travel to taste new foods. What did others travel about for?

She smelled the meat and knew that it'd be done real soon. Tasty smelling creatures, they'd be best with some spices, but she didn't have any on her right now... "So you came to find out about your people? Sounds really important and neat.. I've got a lot less glorious reason for being here, I ended up begin washed out to sea and away from the islands and decided that since I was out here, I might as well go see what other people had to eat!" She heard the meat begin to sizzle, it was done! Quickly reaching in, she tweaked the leaf wrapped meat out of the smoldering fire and then smothered he fire with sand to put it out. "It's hot, but should be ready to eat now!"

Vollerei had never thought of it that way, just a different kind of knowledge? She'd have to tell her mothers that when she saw them next!
"Hmm, spices.. I like my food really hot and spicy, so I prefer using types of peppers and chiles.. there's a dark green vine that grows in the canopy in the Jungle that puts out these lovely bright orange and red pods. The seeds inside add a lot of heat, while the skin provides a nice smokey flavor. They're called Cyenne peppers. My other favorite thing to do is to chop the meat into cubes, put some peppers and onions in between the meat,. skewer the whole then and roast it!"
