Hmm, sparkly wasn't too hard. There were a lot of things in Jauhar that glowed and shimmered. Although if Tahira recalled correctly she knew a place where she might actually be able to show him some real magic. If nothing else it was a place of magic and it always made her feel funny when she went past it. Well past them.. it was complicated. "I have a good idea of where to start looking" she told her small companion before staring to lead him off towards one of the more well walked pathways in the jungle. For all that there were many climbable structures in Sauti they didn't, according to her ma, have a lot of scalable trees so they'd have to travel by ground. Tahira supposed it was for the best since she highly doubted Amma or Nuawahn would have been comfortable trying to cross bridges made of vines or trying to balance on tree limbs.

Nuawahn had learned tree climbing by watching Takoda while he recovered and by trying it himself. It was like climbing rocks, except it felt different. But Takoda could jump from tree to tree, and Nuawahn wasn't sure he could, and every time he contemplated trying to jump from branch to branch, Amma gave him the stinkeye and he chickened out. "Okay!" he said, skipping a little because her strides were a bit longer than his. He was so excited! He was going to see magic! Magic magic magic! he loved magic! Magic could do so many things! It could make water appear and turn into the shapes of animals. It could make petals blow out of a hand in a really neat way. Magic was just so... Just so... awesome! "Can you do magic, Tahira?" he asked. It would be funny if she could sense her own magic. Not funny in a good way, though. He bet that if her antennae were sensitive then it would itch like his itchy scarf that mama made him wear when it was cold. He didn't like that scarf... but it was warm and it was something that mama wanted him to do, and he could play with it and... What if Tahira could use magic?! He'd have to get her to show him her magic.

" Not yet, I need to take lessons first and not many Alkidike can do magic," Tahira replied. Only mystics and sacred hearts practiced magic. Tahira didn't know any sacred hearts with the time to cater to her request. She was planning on seeing if the current mystic in training Kadriye would teach her though. It just felt right since the only other option was to learn from her ma and much as she loved the other female Tahira was more Alkidike than earthling. "Have you seen any sprites yet while you've been here?" she asked curiously as she lead Nuawahn deeper into the jungle. They weren't as frequent as some of the local fauna but the strange little beings were special and so far as she knew had only been spotted in Jauhar thus far.

"Really?" he asked, not quite believing it. It seemed strange. Magic was so... magical. He knew a few people back home who did it. It seemed like something that quite a few people did. He opened his mouth to ask her annoying things like 'why' not many alkidike could do magic. He was, unusually, a bit skeptical of that claim. He normally was not skeptical or suspicious about anything- adults were trustworthy in his experience, after all. But it just seemed so strange! People everywhere had magic.
But Tahira distracted him with a question of her own. Sprites? "What are sprites?" he asked, his interest caught. They sounded like magic and the very name promised fun- something to entertain his curiousity. He shook his head, his enthusiasm causing his hair to follow suit, an interesting effect for the soft curly locks. "No! I've never seen one!" he did a little skip, equal parts enthusiasm and equal parts a necessary step to keep up with the longer-legged alkidike. "Are you gonna show me one?"

"Sprites are like small magical people that can fly," Tahira explained. " They make a lot of noises that seem like talking but we can't understand what they are saying. I might not be able to show you some for sure but I think i can find us a place where some of them have been living." While it was true that she'd never found anything particularly interesting via her antennae before they could pick up the aura of places that were frequented by sprites. Not that that had helped her any in attracting the attention of one so it'd come home with her.

Small magical people who can fly? Nuawahn accidentally missed a step and had to skip twice to keep up. Really? Even the guile-less Nuawahn was incredulous. But Tahira hadn't lied to him yet, had she? So maybe there were sprites. And he was going to see them! "So they talk?" that he found a bit less believable. Amma made sounds, too. But she couldn't talk, because she was a capramel and capramel couldn't talk. It just wasn't a thing Capramel did. "What sort of places do they live in?" or on, he supposed, or near. He knew he should stay quiet so that they would actually find things, but Tahira was so interesting! He couldn't stop talking- the questions and comments just bubbled up, and she seemed not to mind!

"They seem to be able to talk to each other and they understand what we say but we can;t understand them." Perhaps someday though someone who had befriended sprites would crack the secret of their odd little language. " They sort of live everywhere but i think it depends on the group," Tahira replied, antenna swaying back and forth behind her as she walked, trying to pick up trace vibrations of magic."I've seen some live near ponds , in trees, really wherever they want to." Despite mostly being known for being mischievous pranksters the sprites seemed to be a clever and resourceful people.

"Ohhhh" Well, sure they shoudl be able to talk among themselves because they were the same. Amma talked to other capramel. She used her body and her tail and her noises to do it. He didn't know what she said when she did. And them understanding things was believable too. He thought that Amma listened to him sometimes, and he knew that Raptrix could learn tricks. They understood the words and did the tricks. It was so incredible! But okay. If that's what she meant by 'talking' then he could believe it. "So you can find them everywhere?" he said, puzzled, "... But I've never seen one..." he paused, thinking. Oh! "Maybe they're hiding!" of course! Thats why he had never seen them, they hid from him. If they were smart and small, then they could hide. "... do you think we should put out something? Like food? so that they come to us?" he didn't like to think of the idea as bait. Bait, he had learned, was for traps. Traps were for catching and hurting things. But he wasn't setting a trap. He didn't want to catch these flying people things. He just wanted to see one so that Tahira's antennae wouldn't be disappointed and find a place where they were supposed to be without any sprites there. And, of course, so he wouldn't be disappointed too! "What do they like?" he asked, thinking about his pack. He didn't have much in the way of tasty things- he'd been finding fruit as he went.

"Sprites tend to be tricky so it wouldn't surprise me if they were hiding." Tahira agreed. The young woman paused for a moment to look at Nuawahn. "Did your bring any food from sauti with you that you still have? or even any stones or leaves?" Sprites were also curious and if they were hiding when she found one of the living spaces then they might come out to investigate unknown objects.

Nuawahn poked at his pack. "Ummm." he stopped and started searching through it. It was pretty sparse! He'd have to put more things in it. There was an old, dried bundle of spices, a piece of string, a squishy fruit, a piece of bug jerky. Oh! That was his stuffed dolly! He loved his dolly, with its horn-button eyes. Well the fruit and bug was for lunch and dinner... He didnt know what was for dinner. He guessed he should have planned that. Maybe Tahira would know! He'd ask her later. He didn't want to give away his spices or his dolly. If they got taken away, then the dolly would be gone and mama would be unhappy. It had been her dolly! And his spices made all the food taste really good, and people liked them. He pulled out the piece of string. "Would this work, Tahira?" he asked, holding it up to her. It was a coiled piece of string, about the thickness of yarn, a summer saffrony color made of rough capramel wool.

Tahira's stared at the piece of yarn with her pales eyes for a moment before nodding. " Yes that will do." It wasn't anything special but it was pretty and if she tied it into a pretty pattern and hung it from a low branch or smaller plan it should catch the sprites attention even if only briefly. She just hoped the boy wasn't overly attached to the string, there was no guarantee a spite wouldn't simply take off with it, assuming it was gift or something. With that sorted the young woman began walking again letting her memory and the faint tingling from her antennae guide her.

Nuawahn was so excited! A piece of string was a small price to pay for something neat and magical and, well, he guessed Sprite-ish! now he just had to see one! He would see one! Failure was not an option because Tahira was a grownup and smart and pretty. They would see a sprite- there was no question in Nuawahn's mind. Success was the only option possible.
A faint, curious chime rang out from the bushes to the side, followed by the flutter of wings. Another chime, this time more distant. A lookout perhaps?
Nuawahn tugged at Tahira's hand. "What was that?" he asked her, almost bouncing on his heels from excitement. "Was that a sprite? Are we there?" He was just so excited! This was going to be a great adventure! The best, even!

What had followed was a strange but interesting experience as far as Tahira had been concerned. The chiming and rustling of bushes had continued for some time although nothing had emerged. Only when they reached a small grove the noises had been practically constantly although the sprites causing them had continued to remain hidden. Tahira had used the piece of string to tie a particularly complicated not with the string,as a challenge and then backed away to stand by Nuawahn. " You watch" she whispered. At least one of them was bound to be interested in the challenge and once one came out, more would follow. Sure enough a pale bodies, sprite soon appeared and began to hover around the knot, chattering to itself and poking at it experimentally.

Nuawahn gaped as the chattering creature flew into view. Wow! It was so small, but it looked like a person! He wanted to laugh but held the bubbling joy down. He didn't want to scare it away!Another sprite emerged to join it's fellow in inspecting the knot, prodding at it with a long stick. When the knot didn't do anything but sit there and not attack, another sprite joined them. The sprites moved in closer, investigating more aggressively now, pulling and tugging at the knot, looks of focussed consternation on their faces. More rustling and chimes, like laughter, caused answering glares and chimes from the group investigating the knot. It was laughter. Nuawahn couldn't help a little delighted trickle of a giggle from escaping his lips at their antics. He covered his mouth with his hand, hoping that he had muffled it enough to not scare off the strange creatures

The sprites were not startled by the sound at all. In fact while some continued to work on trying to detangle the knot , others emerged from the jungle and moved to investigate the pair of beings that they had brought them this new source of amusement. Tahira smiled as sprites began to swarm her and Nuawahn. She had a feeling they too were going to be poked and prodded at until the sprites curiosity was satisfied. Not that that was a bad way to spend an afternoon.
