He's stressing himself out about things that don't matter. Which, I gather, is his default state. Ellibreth answered Psaumith's question with mild amusement, an eye turned toward I'saak as he wavered at the food table, awkwardly surveying the area around him. Judging by the degree to which so many of the Weyr were dressed right now, I'saak was beginning to think he hadn't adequately prepared for the occasion. So many people were in what was clearly their Gather best, and I'saak....well, once he had finished the job of cleaning and oiling Ellibreth, he hadn't really thought about his own clothes, except to ensure they were clean. He was wearing a soft, charcoal-grey tunic over a teal shirt that complimented Ellibreth's hide, but it wasn't nice clothing. I'saak didn't really own nice clothing.

"I hadn't realized we were supposed to make ourselves pretty for this," he murmured to Kaeyne, lifting a meat pie and sniffing it. He hadn't realized he was hungry until the scent of food hit him, but his stomach reacted to the scent of the pastry with a rumble. "Guess I'm starved," he added, mildly surprised. "Kaeyne - what are you eliding your name to, now?" he asked suddenly. "I'm going by I'saak, I think."

I'saak, Rineth and his are coming toward you, Ellibreth announced, looking up at the flash of silver. She had promised to look for her brother - and she had. That done, she crooned quietly to Psaumith, eyes twinkling pale green. From what I understand, I'saak doesn't like people are paying attention to him. This is a little overwhelming for him. Ellibreth, however, seemed perfectly content in the crowd. People were interesting, and she wasn't particularly intimidated by her clutchmates. There was one in particular she was keeping an eye out for - and there he was. She crooned low to Nimith as he walked his rider toward the food tables. Nimith, she called happily, over here when you and Yours are done!

I'saak, meanwhile, found himself uncertainly trying to end his conversation with K'yne. "Excuse me, I have to - I'm bunking with the silverrider, so I ought to say hello." He turned away. Corloss got a quick, brief wave, the barest glimmer of a smile (Faranth...what was he wearing? I'saak hadn't seen that uniform before), but I'saak needed to talk to Sahar first. "Silverrider!" he called, walking over toward Sahar. He smiled, a little shyly, unsure of how to approach his new roommate. Still, sooner rather than later was good. "Do you have a moment?" he asked as he drew alongside the other young man. "It's Sahar, right? I'm Ildresaak - I'saak. We're bunking now, I guess."

Stand up straight. We are being addressed by a gold.

C’ross hadn’t exactly been slouching to begin with, but he paused in mid-process of transferring delicious food to plate and immediately snapped to attention, turning to look over at the table where the Weyrwomen sat. What? What’s happening?

Not one of them. Hold on. Nimith executed a neat little 360-turn, scanning the crowd curiously and craning his neck to see. As he did so, he responded to Iachixth with all the proper respect that her rank and status required. Thank you, ma’am. I am Nimith, and my rider is C’ross. May I ask which rider is yours? I would be happy to bring mine over to meet her.

“Who are you talking to?” C’ross asked aloud. He still hadn’t quite gotten the hang of all this... telepathic communication stuff. As far as he was concerned, he was standing here with a plate full of tasty meat and pastry while Nimith talked to thin air.

Give me a moment. Really, C’ross was lucky he had a Nimith around. The blue was hardly a secretary, but it seemed that tonight he would be handling the social calls. Ellibreth, glad you and your rider are here. C’ross and I have to go find a goldrider. Want to come?

Nash had not stayed for long after he managed to actually stand without fear of dropping Lan and got off the sands. His twin stayed enough to impart some wisdom in feeding, bathing, oiling and gave him an awkward hug before taking off to find their father. V'ail was alright with that. Mostly.

Roommate was something familiar and different. His family traveled and having a separated bed was a luxury when he was use to a six person pile in the back of the wagon if it was bad weather. Being around non-family for a long period of time was not. It might not have felt so strange if they were near the same age but he likely had a hand full of turns on the kid he was now rooming with. The gifts were nice and he took quick advantage of the wash brushes to clean up dozing Lanterneth to a high glossy red and gently oiled her before quickly cleaning himself and collapsing into a long nap.

Everyone had showed up after that and Lan had enjoyed the attention as he chatted with his family and things were figured out. Hollin had heard about the feast and decided he needed a makeover and V'ail wasn't going to ask how she got Llia to part with her makeup. Instead he stayed still as his little sister lined his eyes in kohl and brushed a thin layer of malachite green over his lids and snickered as she cajoled his twin and father and Loche in getting makeovers as well.

Would have been nice if they stayed for the feast but none of his family were social and well, it took a strong sort not stare at Loche's hook or his father's ravaged eyed and Nash didn't want Sunny around a dozen clumsy dragons. Something about toddlers and hatchlings and not mixing well.

V'ail sighed, walked into the feast slowly, Lanterneth padding at his side. 'Shall we see the queens?' He asked, relaxed in light weight black linen pants and a rich deep blue shirt over a black tunic. Nash had let him borrow his clothes for the night but V'ail had cleaned and polished his boots for the occasion.

Lanterneth replied and after visiting with her mother she planned to rest and let them come to her. She slowly made her way to the trio, partly because the walk had tired her and partly because she refused to be pushed. she replied to Cepheith as her chosen took his knots.

[Iachixth, mostly]

Ma'am. Ma'am.

Iachixth fell silent for a hot minute at the attempt to process the word of ma'am. Other people were called that, other dragons, but not Iachixth. She was Bug and little one, Natai's little beam of lilac that smelled of sunshine (or something to that extent). Even other golds called her other things but ma'am? Nope. And this little pretty blue called her ma'am and for a second after that, even, all Nimith received was a little happy squeaking noise from the young gold until she managed to calm her glee with Nimith and the world in general.

She went to the Feast alone since I am big and she doesn't want to - to, uhm, interrupt. She is not friends with some of them, I think, so I am nearer to the outside of the Weyr with Berath. She is big and green, we're friends. Iachixth hummed happily for a long moment, sprawling further in her position. She wanted to get up an prance towards the Weyr but Natai didn't give her permission for it. Iachixth didn't want to interrupt things! She is wearing bright bright fluffy pants the color of my hide and a top without straps that are the same color. Uhm, she is lovely... That doesn't help, does it?

Instead, she sent an image of Natai - tall and slim, high round cheeks, full lips, nothing but stubble for hair and smooth dark skin. She wore the full pants Iachixth saw her off in, the bright orange yellow top, her lace up sandals. Iachixth loved her.

She knows Masterhealer Bereck a lot, he visits and helps with me and things. He's not mean.

-----

[K'yne and Psaumith]

Mine likes to be angry over things that don't matter. They are matched in that. He sighed with a dragons exhasperation in their silly riders. He nosed at her again before closing his eyes, all three eyelids. the entire thing rang of silliness and excess effort; K'yne spent a good amount of time picking out his outfit for this feast, exerting too much care for such a small thing. K'yne did not go for muted, not ever if he could help it, and he settled for a deep chocolate brown tunic with embroidery he'd done himself made of bright red and gold thread in intricate designs along the edges and cuffs of his clothes, with matching dark pants. He didn't want to wear brown, exactly, but he wanted to almost match Psaumith.

Silliness. Utmost silliness.

"K'yne. I should have said so at the Hatching," he murmured back in a way of roundabout apology. He'd been upset at the hatching, irritated at this change. Atypical, blue or green - that's what he'd expected. That's what he planned his future on. But this... He loved Psaumith. People had no choice but to love their bonded. Having a brown could open doorways if they wanted to take them. Being more of an abnormality, though, it disagreed with him. K'yne took a bite of his meat pie to quell the grumble that would come of it.

He chewed slowly, enjoying the flavor, when I'saak... had somewhere else to be. Eyebrows arched but with his mouth full, good manners dictated words were not said. He nodded instead. When he swallowed his mouthful, I'saak already started away so K'yne (who always enjoyed messing with people, nice to him or not) called out to him, "And I think you look plenty pretty."

I apologize for him. Psaumith sighed to Ellibreth.

T'lon chivvied Poth away from the tables of human food, insisting, Those are all human food, with vegetables or grains and things. Even the ones with some meat in them. Look, there's some meat for hatchlings over at that table, I'll get you some when I've had a bit myself. He grabbed a plate and a small meat pie, keeping an eye on her to make sure she didn't try to get up on the tables.

But I'm hungry now, she insisted pitifully. She did follow him as he headed for a table, but she gazed soulfully at his plate the whole way.

You're not that hungry. I can feel it, he retorted. It was still a bit odd to feel what someone else was feeling, but he'd had some of that from Echo. Where was he, anyway?

Right on cue, the brown flit popped from between with a satisfied cheep. He landed on T'lon's shoulder and handed the boy a piece of paper. T'lon had sent the flit with a note to his father, since the man hadn't been able to come to the Hatching and would probably like to hear that his son Impressed. He set his plate on a nearby table and unfolded the paper, reading the reply note. His lips quirked in a small smile as he read what amounted to 'Congratulations, I'm proud of you, take good care of her and work hard.'

While he was distracted by the note, Poth took the opportunity to sidle closer to the table, then rear up with her front paws on a chair so that she could see the contents of his plate. It smelled so good, and surely he wouldn't notice if she took a little taste...

A sudden clatter made T'lon look away from the note, to find Poth had knocked the plate onto the floor and splattered the meat pie everywhere, including a suspicious amount of gravy on her muzzle. Poth, how could you? he cried in dismay, stuffing the note in his pocket so he coudl lean down to clean up the mess.

It smelled good, she said quietly, but her tone and hunched posture were subdued.

You have to be careful. I don't know what you can and can't eat yet, but I'm sure plates are not one of them. Picking up the plate revealed that it had broken, largely into two pieces but with several smaller shards scattered about. And these bits could cut you, he said, showing her the sharp fragments. Stand still while I clean them up, I don't want you to step on one by accident and get it caught in your foot. He carefully started gathering up the larger pieces of plate and pie. Echo wanted to hopped down to help with the smaller bits, but T'lon told the brown just to stay put. He didn't want Echo to get cut by the shards either.

A change in the air next to his ear announced the appearance of Cap, who landed lightly on his shoulder and dropped the key to his weyr into his hand. Natai must be coming then, good. He hoped it was good anyway. Shifting his stance slightly Bereck looked over at the pair of young gold riders greeting the weyrlings, focusing in particular on Kindra. He hoped she managed to be a little more civil on her own turf than she had been on somebody else's.

He was distracted from pondering (and worrying about) this however by the arrival of Becka and Phasianth. Turning to regard the young pair his frown turned into a small smile, and he greeted them with a little nod. "Ah, Becka, Phasianth. You look very well, little blue. Congratulations again to you both." It was an annoyance to lose and apprentice but he was glad for Becka, that she had been found by a dragon. In about a turn's time her life would be about fighting Thread with little time to return to her craft but he had no doubt she would keep it up as best she could. He didn't like the idea of her fighting Thread in the least, but it was an idea he was starting to come to terms with through Aleck and Rochelle. There was nothing he could do to protect any of them and... and he just had to live with that.

"Have you eaten anything yet?" Bereck added, taking another sip of klah. "If you haven't you should, taking good care of yourself is as important as taking care of Phasianth."

Before he could continue any further with this line of conversation (for conversation, read 'minor lecture') he was distracted by another familiar voice and turned to smile up at Natai. "Ah, there you are," he nodded his approval at this and gestured slightly to the new blue weyrling pair with his mug of klah, shifting his stance again as he did so. "Natai this is Becka, apprentice healer, and her new bondmate Phasianth. Becka and Phasianth, Natai of Iachixth."

Iachixth was older than him, larger than him, and shinier than him. In Nimith’s mind, that made her a ma’am. It also seemed a safer title for her and her rider than Weyrwoman – she was neither Cepheith nor Suunath nor Brakiath, and Nimith could sense that C’ross had no memory of an Iachixth at Trine. Which meant either she was from another weyr entirely, or…

Shells, Nim. I think she’s the stolen gold.

Stolen? Someone stole a gold? Even the thought was scandalous, and Nimith glanced up at his rider, startled.

Yeah, the clutch before yours. It was a big thing – everyone had to help search for the stolen eggs. Now she lives at a Holdtown or something because the Revolution bastards lost her egg there? I don’t know.

Then she certainly requires our protection, in case anyone tries anything nefarious tonight! And that settled it, as far as Nimith was concerned. He reared up onto his hindlegs to survey the crowd again with sharp eyes, then relayed back to Iachixth promptly. Understood. C’ross and I will be discreet. I see your rider, and the healer with her is the one who treated my rider’s injured leg. It made an ideal cover – if anyone should ask why C’ross was taking an interest in a perfect stranger who was trying not to be mobbed as a visiting goldrider, they could simply claim he’d wandered over to thank the healer who treated him.

Nim set off at a brisk walk, fast enough that C’ross had to lengthen his stride a little to keep up, but not quite jogging. The two of them wove through the crowd, Nimith relaying Iachixth’s mental picture of Natai back to his rider. Shells, she was lovely… Although C’ross would have been more likely to use the adjective “hot”, and not in any capacity where she could potentially overhear. One did not simply compliment a goldrider’s attractiveness without potential consequences.

Nimith found the group first, dipping the fore half of his body into an approximation of a neat little bow before chirping over his shoulder to C’ross. C’ross likewise offered a salute. “Masterhealer. Didn’t get the chance to thank you properly before.” He glanced to the other two girls there, looking to Natai first. “You must be Iachixth’s rider – Nimith’s filled me in, more or less. I’m C’ross.”

The third person there, he recognized as the Healer apprentice who’d Impressed. “Congratulations on your blue. Handsome fellow.”

Ellibreth was not content to simply lie there like Psaumith was. She had originally intended to hold the seat for I'saak when he got back, but it seemed like her rider was going on an adventure of his own to talk to Rineth's (which was good; Ellibreth was glad I'saak was making friends. It would be awkward to live together if their riders weren't on good terms) and wouldn't be back for quite some time. Nudging Psaumith's muzzle again gently, she chirruped. I'saak is doing things, but hopefully he will be over to sit soon. When your rider comes back, would you ask him to save a seat for I'saak? She wasn't entirely sure of Psaumith or K'yne just yet, but she was an optimistic little creature. I am going to say hello to Nimith.

And possibly a gold! The thought was exciting to Ellibreth, who had only really glanced at her mother before Impression. Golds were the broodmothers, and Ellibreth, green as she was, instinctively looked up to them. She wove through the crowd expertly, currently a dragon without a rider, and approached Nimith from behind. She drew alongside the blue with a trill of greeting, twining around him and C'ross like a happy feline before settling down at his side.

Hello, Nimith. I'saak is busy right now. We get to meet a gold?

[Natai]

"Thank you for inviting me, Masterhealer. Trine is not exactly how I imagined." Natai huffed a quiet laugh, the corners of her mouth causing her eyes to wrinkle somewhat. Suddenly dragons everywhere. First it had been the brightly colored little blue and his small, delicate little bondmate with the rather nice voice. They stood with Bereck and while aware that Iachixth decided to speak with some of the little dragons, Natai never expected them to come to the little crowd by the healer. Iachixth hummed happily with Nimith's reassurances, pleased with the fact her rider would be getting a little bit of a bodyguard in the midst of everything.

A man a few inches taller than her and three times as wide appeared from the crowd with a blue dragon in tow - the same large man and the blue she noticed only moments ago. Handsome, the new weyrling was, and full of a very serious expression. Iachixth must have contacted them when Natai made note of them, excitable prying thing she liked to be. Natai cocked her head up to look at him, blinking once before she smiled up at him - C'ross, he'd called himself.

"The pleasure is mine, C'ross, Nimith. I'm sorry if Iachixth bothered you overmuch, it's supposed to be a celebration for you, not to have my girl poking for attention," She smiled, mild, friendly as ever. "I've-- oh, hello there, dear."

A little green showed up, small and gangly looking with a bright streak of beauty. Natai brightened up again and wriggled her fingers at both of the small dragons. "And who is this little girl here?"

-----

[Psaumith]

He rumbled an agreement to his clutchmate and stretched out even more to take up two of the seats by the feet. Ha. Two seats. And then, with consideration for the third party, hooked his tail around another seat.

C'ross may have to sit at some point.

"Isn't it?" Bereck's eyebrows raised slightly and he made a mental note to ask her later how she had imagined it. The answer could be illuminating, interesting at the very least.

The appearance of the weyrling whose injuries he had treated on the sands extracted another very small smile from the master, and another incline of his head too. "No thanks necessary rider - C'ross. Pleased to be able to assist you." Much as the thanks weren't needed they left that little smile hovering on Bereck's lips that usually sat in such a serious or pensive line. It was nice to be appreciated.

"Oh? Hello." Bereck looked down at the deep green who had just arrived. "Where's your rider then young lady?" She'd been one of the later Impressed if he remembered right, she'd chosen a large young man who had picked her up. Bereck could see no sign of him just at the moment and dispatched a couple of firelizards to hunt for him. The hatchling didn't seem distressed at the moment but if she became so he wanted to be able to reunite her with her bondmate as soon as possible.

Oh good he smiled, that was better than his frown anyday "Thank yo....." his mental chuckle playful and not at all mean or bashful either. He wasn't afraid to speak his mind, he just needed to nudge Becka into speaking out a little more for herself.

Becka was about to answer Bereck again when Phasianth cut in.. again .. He told Bereck, this time rather smugly as his eyes showed his amusement as they whirled rotating colors.

She stood back a little ways politely as the other woman approached Bereck, she was more than a little surprised when Bereck introduced them to each other. "Hello Natai of Iachixth, I didn't think you'd come to Trine" she said, nicely enough. "Where is your Gold, i would like to see her, Master Bereck has told me a lot about her, apparently she is very mischevious" she smiled at Natai warmly

She wasn't surprised at the news that Bereck had invited the young goldrider, after all she SHOULD mingle much more with other riders, she had a lot to learn about being a dragonrider, well so did Becka if she was honest with herself but Iachixth was going to be a Large Dragon. She was a little disconcerted as another Weyrling came over, Becka was starting to feel uncomfortable and unwanted as people were coming over, was it because of Bereck or the Goldrider Natai? .... The new weyrling was there for Natai apparently, that made her feel a little better. announced Phasianth to all surrounding him and His, dragons and Humans alike, then he virtually pushed Becka towards the tables, and towards food "but.. Phasianth..." her stomach rumbled "Oh alright... We'll be back soon Master Bereck, Rider Natai.... uh .. C'ross" Then she headed to the tables. "Right i'm grabbing a plate for me, a bucket for you and we're going right back over to Master Bereck, that was very rude Phasianth" she mock-scolded, she had to admit she WAS Hungry and Master Bereck wouldn't be happy with her if she didn't eat.

Phasianth, very pleased with himself let out an ear splitting screech, (not unlike the terran bird his markings resembled) and spread his wings up and flared them, stretching his neck out as he spotted the little Green as they walked away from the tables, he wanted to be sure she had seen him ..... to be sure ALL the female dragons paid attention to how lovely he looked! Becka flushed with embarrassment.

“It’s no trouble,” C’ross told Natai frankly. “I’m not a fan of the spotlight, I’d much rather be out here talking to you than up there near the Weyrwomen.” A little blunt, perhaps, but true. C’ross felt better when there was something for him to bedoing.

Nimith was clearly pleased with Ellibreth’s approach, turning bright green-whirling eyes on his fellow weyrling. It is a secret mission, Ellibreth, Nimith explained gravely, entwining his tail with his sister’s and inclining his muzzle in Natai’s direction. That girl there, in the bright clothes, her gold was stolen when she was just an egg. Now she is here visiting, and she does not want to draw unfriendly attention, so C’ross and I are going to protect her.

For a new-hatched dragon, Nimith was pretty good at reading between the lines when he needed to, and it was clear enough that Iachixth was not in sight because she didn’t want to draw attention to herself and her rider.

C’ross, for his part, was somewhat surprised by Ellibreth’s appearance without I’saak, but didn’t miss a beat in response to the questions. “Oh, I forgot to mention I Impressed twice,” he deadpanned dryly to Natai and Bereck, a joke that fell somewhat flat on account of deadpan being C’ross’ default expression. Turning to the green and offering her a hand, he asked aloud, “Where’s I’saak, Ell? Did you lose him already?” Hopefully offering scritchies to someone else’s dragon wasn’t some kind of taboo.

And... oh. The other blueweyrling was leaving. C’ross felt a little bad about crowding her, actually. But maybe she’d be back, or maybe she’d find some other group she liked better. It wasn’t as if he’d never see her again, they were both weyrlings in the same class.

Faranth, it seemed that people weren't too keen on dragons wandering off without Theirs! Which was ironic, considering the fact that this tall, tall woman to whom Nimith's was speaking was clearly a rider without her dragon anywhere to be seen. Ellibreth listened as the blue explained the "secret mission" to her, eyes whirling with rapid curiosity, and then she chirruped and nuzzled him firmly. This sounds interesting, she proclaimed calmly. And then when Natai, Bereck, and C'ross all asked the same question, she looked from face to face and back again, before inclining her head in the direction that Becka and Phasianth had just gone. Come back soon, Phaisanth! she called after them, giving the blue the attention he wanted without much thought. Then she turned back to the assembled riders.

I am I'saak's, or he is mine, whichever you like better. She answered Bereck and Natai first. He is getting food and speaking to Rineth's, because we will be living together, she went on, speaking to all three at once. I'm sure when he is done making friends, he will come join us. For now, though, she wasn't concerned. She could still see I'saak, tall and awkward as he was, sticking out like a sore thumb over at the food. She turned back to the group at hand and her own thoughts. It's not a very good secret mission, she confided softly to Nimith. Everyone here with dragons will know she has a gold, and most of the people here do have dragons. Besides, if her gold really was stolen, and she wanted to avoid attention, she wouldn't come here. That's like inviting people to pay attention to her. Not very secretive.

Roan, err R'an stood in the doorway of the hatching feast. 'Maybe we should wait, you said you were still tired.' He turned to look at Syria. The blue seemed to be staying behind him. Both really didn't think it was a good idea to be around so many people but Syria had convinced R'an that it was a good idea. As long as there weren't too many people all around.

'It's fine, I slept long enough, I'm ready.' The blue dragon said before slipping past his rider and actually entering the room, though he didn't go far. He wouldn't abandon R'an. The boy slowly followed after his dragon and stuck as close to Syriacuth as the dragon would allow.

[Natai]

"I've not been to a Weyr before," Natai shrugged slightly, her expression twisting to one of slight sheepishness. There was no polite way to say she didn't realize she'd be something not quite run of the mill for the Weyr. She'd have worn something a smidge less bright if she'd known. She rubbed her thumb against the curve of her palm in an effort to hold off the nerves, cut abruptly short when Becka asked about Iachixth. Natai smiled back, the line of her shoulders relaxing with the kind tone. "Bereck sent me notice of the clutch hatching and I had promised Narisa a visit when Iachixth could fly. She's just outside of the Weyr - we weren't exactly sure where the landing field was."

The little blue spoke then and she jumped, still rather unused to voices outside of Iachixth's in her head. Natai didn't know what to make of it most of the time and as Iachixth got older, the visiting dragons spoke to Natai less and less. "It was nice to meet you," she said before Becka headed off without further ado. Her gaze followed the young bluerider until C'ross pulled her attention back with his... blunt assessment. It drew a slow smile at any rate.

"Narisa is very nice. I've not spent much time with Kindra, though." Lies, pretty pretty lies but they had two lovely babies still and a man making a joke that drew out a little laugh from her. Her hand went up to cover her mouth again, amused. "You'll soon be collecting a rainbow of dragons, I'm sure, and you've good taste of it too. Hello, Ell. Erm... am I right to assume that isn't your full name?"

What she really wanted to say was 'what do we do now? Sit? Talk? Wreck havoc?' In the end, she kept quiet for a short moment, eyes flicking this way and that before she said it anyway. "What does one typically do at these things?"
