Lin's eyes lit up at that admission, "So that's how you all met. It never occurred to me to ask, that must have been quite a meeting."
She also noted that the word used was physician, which made sense rather than to use healer, since the kind of healing associated with that title required magic.

Kyrie chuckled at that comment. "Indeed. Three weeks of fever, not that I was conscious for it; then another week or so before I would even leave my room ... I was terrified of them, Lara's mother had to coerce me into eating with the family. That lasted a while, but they made it very clear that I was one of the family whether I liked it or not."
She grinned down at Lin. "I think for a while, Lara and Gwen were a little frightened of me, too. Not that I blame them."

"How old were all of you when that happened?" Lin asked.
It was hard to imagine Lana being frightened of Kyrie, though Lin also supposed if Kyrie had that many scars even when she met her adopted family there was a reason to be a bit frightened.

Kyrie pursed her lips. "Oh, dear ... now you're making me think. It's been somewhere around a thousand years ... I can't remember exactly. In my teens anyways. Late teens."
She looked very human, but her elven blood had kept her looking young, and she had not aged physically since she had been in her mid twenties.

Lin nodded at that, young enough where someone like Kyrie might be considered a bit frightening she figured. Though she had to smile slightly at the way Kyrie worded her thinking.
It reminded her of her mother a bit.
"That is a long time ago," Lin agreed, "And normally you prefer to travel right?"
So around a thousand years of travel, that was a long time, but then again Elros had been the same way before he settled in Haven and then later the Eastland.

"I'm not certain that 'prefer' is the right word," Kyrie mused aloud. "I think it's more a need. Maybe a compulsion. I simply can't sit in one place for long. Trust me, I've tried. It just doesn't work. I'm happy enough for a while, sure, but then it never fails ... word spreads of people traveling who end up in some kind of trouble - attacked, killed, kidnapped, injured, whatever - and I know it's not my fault but I feel guilty, I feel like I should have stopped it ... knowing that I could have, if I'd been there ..."
She shook her head. "No, my place is in the forests, where I can do some good."

"I see...." Lin nodded.
It suddenly explained the odd request Kyrie made in return for her services. It would also explain why she became so restless over the year. It also made Lin wonder what sort of people Kyrie had met over her travels. Someone who tended to look out for others would (or so LIn thought) make friends in all sorts of places.

Suddenly Kyrie looked over at Lin, allowing herself to be momentarily distracted from looking around them.
"What about you?" she asked curiously. "What drives you to travel like this? It must be something more than your husband's job to map the lands, because if that was it then he could simply have copied mine and been done with it."

Lin thought about it for a moment, because over the years her reasons for doing so had changed. Though it always did start from that one childhood promise.
"Traveling had always been a dream of mine and Earendil's," Lin admitted, "We've known each other since we were children, and we always said we would travel. It's also has to do with knowledge and seeing different cultures and places for ourselves. Mapping is only part of the reason why we travel."

Kyrie smiled. "Curiosity and a sense of adventure," she remarked. "Always a good combination, as long as they're not alone. I'm hoping that also comes with a sense of caution. You've already told me that both you and your husband can fight, which is good."
She exhaled slowly. "I'm so used to traveling alone ... this is going to be different for me. Not in a bad way, just ... something to get used to. I haven't traveled with someone since ... a very long time ago."

Considering how old Kyrie was, Lin could only imagine how long ago that might have been.
"That's understandable, I've never traveled alone before, but like I said. Earendil and I have known each other since we were children...."
So there was never a chance to travel alone.

Kyrie grinned at Lin, her eyes sparkling. "I think I'm most looking forward to not having to do all of my own cooking," she winked at Lin. "Not that I'm a terrible cook, but I'm not the greatest."
Then she tilted her head curiously. "What's your favourite part of traveling in a group?" she asked her.

There was a pause, as Lin had to think about it. She just always took it for granted that she traveled in a group that she never thought about it much. She thought about it a bit more before replying.
"Probably getting to know everyone better," Lin replied before adding, "Whenever we travel, we always seem to pick up new traveling companions, so there's always a chance to get to know people better."

Kyrie chuckled at that. "Well, you've already got me as an addition to the group," she grinned, "and I think it's safe to say that eventually - whenever we reach the other side of the continent - my brother may be joining us, he did promise me the last time I was there that he would come with me the next time I passed through the city."
A new expression crossed her face: eager, excited ... hopeful.

She was sure she had heard that Kyrie had a brother in passing, however, Lin hadn't thought about it much before until she saw Kryie's expression.
"Has it been a long time since you've seen him?" she asked.
