Bronze Alimanth

Yes, because I am very concerned over Zamanateth's feelings. I can be poetic if I'd like, it sounds nice. Alimanth managed to sound prissy as shards when he spoke privately to Disuth and even snorted in the other males general direction. The bronze shoved into the sky after Zam and her blood-soaked self, hissing as the wind rushed past him. His mindvoice turned to Seth, though not private. Mine once read something that reminds me of this situation - I shall call you Oediputh from now on. It suits you. Do try to stop with this 'Mother' business.

See, I'm quite good at poetry. he huffed to Disuth.

Alimanth snapped his jaws in threat before snarling, diving at a different dragon flying too close that was not Disuth. Claws raked and drew ichor on Alimanth in return, fueling his eyes with crimson-purple in anger. He twisted away from them, displeased but, really... he cut first. To you, Zamanateth! A leg, a torso, and my ichor, apparently.

K'yne paused as his dragon decided to randomly claw at another in the sky, mind racing with ichor and A'tsu's face pressed against the pulse of his neck. His hand tightened for a heartbeat and he pushed A'tsu away from him - and towards a spot off their path a bit more private.

Kr'stof, in the meantime, just sauntered to A'stor's weyr. That was the end o that.

Brown Zxyth
Taking the Safe Option

Things were starting, and he took the comment for what it was. They would all have to be flying their best, fighting for her, and he took off into the air. He could see some of them forcing their way through, and while it was a tempting option, he would wait.

She would probably prefer it if he jumped in, claws slashing, forcing himself to the front, but while it might give him an advantage now, it might make him miss a better one later. He would take risks, but so far, there wasn't a need to, and he'd rather save his skill for the later parts of the flight, when the ones who pressed ahead early might be faltering.

Brawn was good, but being smart about it was even better.

L'iv of Brown Howlith
safe option

Howlith wasn't going to rise to taunts or respond to other dragons. For a moment when Ulfriskith made threats, he growled, a small sound deep in his throat. But it wasn't a challenge so much as a comment on the dragon's own bravado. And then Zamanateth took to the air, and there was a tangle of wings and claws, dragons snarling and snapping at each other. Zamanateth wanted them to bloody themselves out and drop from the sky because they had allowed other males to get too close? Hmph, that didn't suit Howlith. It was impractical and unnecessary. No, he wasn't going to get himself caught in the first bloodbath of the Flight.

Instead, he simply took to the air, rolling away from the confused mess that was dragons going after one another. Zamanateth was obvious compared to the bronzes and browns, and he caught sight of a fellow Secondary - Malcarreth. For a moment, Howlith's eyes flashed blue in the red and violet, and he would have bugled a hello to the blue had Malcarreth not elected to throw himself into the thick of things as well. Hmph. Stupid. Not worth it, to get yourself mauled this early on.

Bronze Ulfriskth
Wound Roll

When Zamanateth leaned down to blood two more from the herd he managed to bottle some of his enthusiasm long enough to follow her example and took down another of the panicked beasts, lapping up its blood from his teeth and his muzzle. His eyes were a swirl of red and purple but it was blood lust more than anger that twisted his gaze to a crimson hue. He was enjoying this and when his wingleader issued his returned challenge he ruffled his wings and rumbled a sound that could have been laughter.

I obey my queen and my rider, I do not find you worthy of my queen any more than I find you a worthy leader. Try.

He finished with another flash of his teeth to punctuate the point, if his Queen wanted blood she would have it and looked around and listening in told him he already had gotten the attention of several of the other big males. Good.

Of course he was aware no other gold to bring out her suitors fighting instincts quite like Zamanateth that's why he adored her. He basked in her approval and glee. I will show you! I will tear wings and throats before this is over for you.

He knew then the second herdbeast had been a mistake, several dragons had already gained the air after his queen while he was cleaning the last of the blood from his kills corpse. To try and gain back from the lag he launched after Zama with his claws outstretched to try and tear through the throng to the head of the pack.

Green Berath (F seeking M)

Bereck looked up from his work at the distant call of dragon voices and tutted his disapproval. "Must they be so loud? Some of us actually have important things to be doing. They haven't even started yet and they're squealing as if...." As he was talking to himself the master trailed off there and muttered more to himself in continued disapproval.

After a moment however his head jerked back and up and scowled. "Berath, what do you think you're-"

the huge green replied calmly.

"Berath, this is not a buffet, stop ogling!" Bereck pushed himself to his feet and glared at the ceiling as he felt his bondmate take wing. "Get back down here this instant, I am trying to concentrate!"

Berath replied with a patient mental chuckle. she added.

Bereck responded crossly, switching to a mental touch so that nobody wondered what he was shouting about.

Berath sighed,

Bereck sighed heavily and took off his glasses to rub his face. Muttering under his breath the red haired healer crossed the room, locked his door and then poured himself a large whiskey as he drew his mind away from Berath's.

There had been a time, long ago, when she would only have considered one male in the whole world. He did miss that time.

Unaware of her rider's thoughts now Berath hung at the very back of the pack, behind the very last male, and watched. Well Ber was right about one thing, it certainly was a nice spread!

Ki'en and Bronze Solzeth

wound roll

Solzeth rumbled, eyes gleaming purple and lashed his tail. He tipped his head, waiting, tense in anticipation and called out in answer as she rose like a molten spray of hot lava. Solzeth added his voice to her whoop of delight and snapped into action, pushing off and thrummed.

'Sol...'

Solzeth lashed out, the dark tarnish bronze gleeful at showing off before the queen.

Bronze Tauvolanth
Taking the Safe Option, +1 Point

Tauvolanth bugled, a sound tinged with rumbling draconic laughter, and rolled effortlessly away from Ulfriskith. My hide ain’t gold, son, so why are you riding my a**? You and I are gonna have a talk after, but for now I’ve got a queen to catch.

He wasn’t a savage beast, Tauvolanth really wasn’t. He could give as good as he got , but he wasn’t the kind of dragon who would be first to strike. Let the others scream and rage and expend all their ichor early. He intended to save his to decorate those pretty golden claws. And oh, how pretty they were. His bugle turned into a croon as he swept upwards, long wings beating hard at the air as he tried to extricate himself from the thick of the pack.

Around him, there were other bronzes, other browns – even a blue, he saw out of the corner of his eye, and a… green? Ah. There to console one of the losers, no doubt. Well, Tauvolanth didn’t intend to lose.

Brown Merceth
Wound Roll, +2 Points, +1 Wound

A terrible scream, less a draconic roar and more the predatory shriek of a bird of prey, echoed across Warden’s as Merceth hurled himself into the sky like a bat out of hell.

C’ross had tried – tried in vain – to hold him back from this one… But there was no stopping the savage, scarred brown. He’d refrained from chasing Brakiheth. He would not be chained by his rider’s needs. Not this time.

His wings slashed at the air as if it were an enemy to be battled. His solitary eye gleamed the colors of dragonfire, orange-red beneath the violet. He was after the Queen, and he would not stop until he had caught her. Another scream rent through the air as he hurled himself into the thick of the fray, claws out, teeth bared.

He cared nothing for who might be in range of his claws. Wounds could be nursed and apologies made when the flight was done. He had as much right to battle for Zamanateth’s favor as any other dragon here - and he would prove his worth!

Zamanateth! Let your suitors beware - nothing can protect them from my claws!

A'rik and Peregrith
Safe option

A'rik woke to a turbulent stir of emotions. Oh shells. he thought. Peregrith was looming over him.
was all he said, lowering his quick-spinning red eyes to his rider's level.
"You're not going to fly her are you?" A'rik asked, already fighting back the steadily increasing influence of Peregrith's mind.
His mindvoice was hissing.
A'rik sighed. Shells, what was it about that gold demon that made all the boys fall for her? he said.
Peregrith asked incredulously.
"Right, right. I heard you. Well? Go on, then. Don't be late."

Turning his hungry red eyes away from his rider, Peregrith followed his advice and took off for the Weyrbowl. He barely touched down before springing back up again, using the earth as a spring board to quickly redjusted his trajectory. He was too late to join the first, fray, he decided. But there would be others. Oh, yes. There would be others. And he much conserve his strength for them. He would let the lesser specimens duke it out first. When more of them had fallen, then he would strike.

Afraid? he thought, to the queen's taunt. <I look forward to it.> he said.

Alia and Melangth
Safe Option

((Catching up with Drac's permission, since round 2 came sooner than stated))

Alia noted, as the two were making their way toward the weyrbowl.

Alia asked.
he added, with a touch of amusement. These poor bronze bastards had no idea what they were in for.
Alia tried to tempt him. She was dying to know if another blue-gold clutch would produce the same irregular results.
he told her.

she asked him, finally giving up on getting him to chase.
he said settling down to view the spectacle. Alia turned her attention that way as well.

"Oh. The kid's going to fly his mother?" she asked, noticing Seth amoung the suitors.

"I know, I know." Alia interrupted him. "I wasn't saying there was anything wrong with it. Actually, I think it's mostly A'vin that keeps him from flying regularly."

Melangth was just beginning to enjoy the show, when a presumptious bronze felt the need to point out the same. And none too quietly either. Really, if he needed to display his ignorance, he should at least do so quietly.

Oranges and yellows of annoyance were quickly covered by his usual placid blue.
"Oh-ho?" Alia said, noticing. "Did something make you angry?"
Melangth told her simply. He rose and stretched out his long blue wings with a snap.

Or so he said. But while he might not be out there for Zamanateth he was certainly out for blood. Red overtook his usually blue eyes.

Although not quite joining the front-runners, he came up behind Alimanth, coasting effortlessly on the wind behind his wing. <Resorting to name calling so early?> he asked, also not privately. <Perhaps those who are not capable of fighting with their claws do so with words instead.>

He could do that. I will watch and learn. It might even end up being useful later. His eyes whirled in delight, and he nuzzled his partner's hand. The queen says that I should watch and learn, so that I will know how to do it properly. You will stay with me?

With a sigh, the weyrling sat down beside the grey. "Of course." He would do just about anything for Voc, even if it meant staying out here. "You really should finish eating."

I will in a moment. he responded, keeping his eyes on the flying males. Some of them were more aggressive than others, forcing themselves through the crowd, slashing out. Why are they allowed to do that, and we are not? he asked.

"Mating flights are different, I think." Hatchings were supposed to be though, and he made a note to ask about it. "We'll ask V'tyai later."

Good plan. He noticed a green approaching the tail end of the group of males. I do not think the queen will like that.

Blyte chuckled. "It should be alright."

If you say so.

Gold Zamanateth and Ai

Yesssss, yes oh yes. Bleed for her, you who would fly her. She circled up, higher and higher, enjoying the altitude, judging angles.
Her attention was caught by a blue- ooooo a blue- joining her chase. She ignored Ai's discomfort- this was her flight, and her rider didn't have a real stake in it. And she knew it. The only reason Ai was not happy about a blue was because she didn't want to make trouble.
She should know by now that Zamanateth saw that as a challenge.
Zamanateth circled once as the roiling and now bleeding mass of maleness followed her.
she commented to Malcarreth, impressed, she grinned She angled her wings and dove down to harry her followers, clawing her claws sharp, She swooped away before they could catch her- she still had plenty of flight left in her. She was just getting warmed up.
And then she saw the green.
she roared a challenge.
But eh. It would have been more firey if Berath was a gold. Zamanateth's attention was still mostly on her followers. She swooped up and around again, claws outstretched, not yet at the green but the glance she threw Berath said that if she didn't explain herself, that might not be so far away.

Malcarreth replied with a chuckle. Having made it somewhere into the middle of the pack he bided his time, watching the way the larger males and the massive female moved. C'tis, rising with him, urged him to charge in as recklessly as he had taken wing but Malcarreth overrode that desire with his own sense. He had tasted those claws already and if he could avoid tasting them too much more then that would be just perfect.

Brown Merceth
Courting Death By Zamanateth! +3 Points, NO WOUNDS!

He had ground to make up. C’ross’ hesitation, his rider’s reluctance to let him fly and hunt and tear as his instincts demanded, had lost Merceth time. He couldn’t afford to lose time. The bronzes were slow, complacent – they would be easy to maneuver around. But there were other browns in this race too, and they would surely be thinking the same as Merceth was… that the best way for a brown to win was to do it fast.

So he didn’t stick around to satisfy his bloodlust on the other males, as much as he might have enjoyed a quick taste of ichor on his maw. Merceth hadn’t blooded a kill as some of the other males had, but far from weakening him, his hunger mingled with his desire to chase, lending a razor’s edge to his already sharp reaction times.

Those reaction times would prove to be his best asset. As Zamanateth dove, Merceth dove with her, swooping through an arc parallel to hers. He realized only as he had already begun the maneuver that she was turning, angling away from him in a way that would bring her over to his blind side…

Well. No matter. He would be close to the queen, even if he would momentarily lose sight of her. It was a risky maneuver, insanely risky, and he could feel C’ross in the back of his head screaming at him not to try it. But he hurled himself after the queen with blind – literally blind – fervor.
