She watched him eat the starseed and smiled, patting him on the shoulder. The other starseed she stored away for now. One never knew when they might need one. Of course, she had quite a few and it was unlikely she would ever need them all, but she couldn't help herself sometimes. And giving them to people that didn't deserve them didn't sit well with her, either.
At his request for her name she chuckled and did a little bow, theatrical and cute in its curtsey type movement.
"General Painite," she said. That was another thing that she just could not keep from loving about this whole thing. Being in the negaverse, that was. Her name just seemed more and more fitting, and she had not even gotten to pick it. Maybe, subconsciously, she had always just felt like she needed to live up to the moniker, and that was what fueled her decisions.
Or not.
"And it's my pleasure to meet you, Lieutenant. I am looking forward to training you. And hopefully that means you'll enjoy spending some time with me, as well, of course."

He watched her amusedly. He never thought he'd see a commanding officer introduce themselves in such a theatrical and embellished way. From what he'd seen so far, she was highly animated and unpredictable. At least meeting her wasn't the same as dealing with his insufferably droll general, who wasn't even in the mood to train him. He didn't know what the blonde was so preoccupied with, but it didn't matter now. She seemed much more engaging than Benitoite, and was someone he could actually respect. One of the few, really.
"Painite, huh?" He snorted, cracking a smile. "No s**t." That was a name she well deserved. If only he'd picked something with a little more meaning to it... Then again, a meaningless name fit him well, in a philosophical way.
"Perhaps," though it sounded more like perheps. He was already warming up to her, which said a lot considering his misanthropic nature. "You're much more interesting zan zat idiot Benitoite. He just mopes around all ze damned time." But Painite... She was out raising hell in the dead of night, with seemingly no reason. He could respect that. She definitely had the power to do whatever she damn well pleased, and if that meant killing whoever mildly irks her, then he actually really liked that. Maybe she'd take him with her sometime, though he'd like to do more than just pick off one or two stragglers in a well-hidden alleyway.
Maybe this whole Negaverse scheme was worth his while.
Playing nice seemed like a very good reason for them to cross paths again as well. "Next time I'll return a starseed to you." He offered a grin; he liked what that entailed, and he was already considering the target for the crime. She deserved, something special, after all, since she was the first person he enjoyed meeting in a very long time. Maybe something of sentimental value would suit her nicely. Then again, she was pretty unpredictable.
Bischofite wanted to thank her, but acknowledging someone for kicking his a** didn't sit well with him. What did they do in the military? Salute? ******** that, too stuffy. Too overdone and superfluous. "Maybe next time I'll actually hit you." It stung his pride a little to accept the fact that she won (without contest), but he'd swallow his swelling irritation and hopefully prove himself next time. "So where can I find you?" He wanted to know before he just left her there amongst the bodies of her victims.

"You'd better bring me a pretty starseed next time, then! Something with a story behind it." She smiled at the very idea, looking a bit wistful but humming and shaking herself out of it quickly enough. She nodded her head as he said he would like to rematch, or that was what she took it for, and moved to bring her crystal to her hand.
"Every negaverse soldier has one of these crystals. You can use it to communicate with other soldiers, if they are powered up at the time. I spend most of my time powered up, so I'll be easy to reach if you ever need to find me."
She focused on the crystal and sent him a message, letting him feel the way it rumbled, in its pocket of negaspace, summoning his attention like a phone might. A phone that looked a lot like a very dark crystal. Not the most sleek or pocket friendly design, but then, it hardly mattered to them with their powers.
"Just like this," she said, into the crystal.

Little did she know that Bischofite already formed the beginnings of an idea for a perfectly plucked starseed. It would bear all the minute strands of story, woven together to explain, in a simplistic gesture, a deep understanding of his own life. Would she be able to see the significance in such a pathetically small crystal? For her, he considered it a possibility. She may lack the insight into his life, the tendrils of backstory that constricted his choices in life, but she would certainly understand the sentiment.
The necessity.
The rumble of the crystal felt akin to his phone on vibrate. It summoned a sense of urgency, and a preprogrammed desire to answer it. He found the object with little difficulty, though he was somewhat baffled when he tried to figure out its original location. It felt abnormally light in his hand, and appeared to suck the light out of its surrounding area. Perhaps it did. Given its... anti-glow, as he figured it, the crystal may very well be composed out of the sheer absence of light.
From it came a rattling, tinny voice, like a radio not quite tuned to the proper station. Her words were coherent, almost as clear as normal conversation, despite the background noise. Maybe that was due to her proximity. Maybe not.
"So I'll be able to call you wis' zis sing?" He grinned. "I'll keep zat in mind." Now that he had a means of contacting her, their rematch seemed more a possibility than before.
Now she wasn't simply a name floating in the darkness, essentially lost to him.
"Painite..." He spoke, imitating her by speaking into the crystal. He hesitated. He toyed with simply ending his statement at that. But... "Tell me somesing. Tell me zat you'll call me when you need me around. I suspect you'll make a far besser general zan Benitoite. You haf' a lot more to offer. A lot more to respect."

"Yes, you will. Or any soldier, as long as they are powered up." She smiled at him and nodded, giving him some simple lessons because she had found, most of the time, Lieutenants were woefully under trained these days. No one bothered to be useful.
They were all getting too soft, too complacent. It would be their end, but Painite would not let those with skill and power, with potential to bring the Negaverse back into full glory, be wasted by those that lacked such things.
"I can use you," she said with a coy smile, nodding at him. "You, my dear little Bischofite, have something big in your future. I can see it already. You are going to be a powerful General for us. And I'll be more than happy to teach you everything I know to help you toward that end."
She all but purred her contentment at that, moving to pat him on the shoulder lightly, leaving her hand there as she watched him thoughtfully, as if seeing that future she was talking about.
"And we'll have some fun getting there. Does that sound good to you? If I summon you, will you come, regardless of what I might ask you to do?"

The crystal seemed useful in its own way, but he didn't foresee himself using it often. Perhaps he'd respond to a summons via its communication capabilities, but call for backup? Probably not. At least it didn't take up much space, so he wasn't losing anything by having it.
Bischofite couldn't refrain from smiling a little at her praise. Though he was unaccustomed to such words of encouragement, he believed her wholly. She exuded such personality, such grace and compassion... How could he doubt her words? After all, if her fighting prowess was any indication, she'd been at this strange war for a long time. Certainly by now she knew how to spot those with talent.
But could he live up to her claims? Inwardly he wondered if that were possible, but... She held such a strong presence. Even if he failed to meet her expectations, her magnetic charm drew him to her. He could live with failure if it meant she'd accept him into her fold.
"I don't care what you summon me for." Even if it meant a suicide mission, or silencing one of his family, he found it curiously difficult to resist her. "If you need me to blow up all of Destiny City, just point me to ze nearest nuclear reactor and it's as good as done." He meant every word of it - should she summon him and ask him to kill his family, he'd only hesitate once. And, perhaps, that was simply for consideration of his own lodgings down the road. But, if she promised him a place to stay, he had no reason to hesitate.
It took a fair amount of effort to refrain from resting his hand on hers. Connection was a rare phenomena - what was he to do, let it pass unceremoniously or seize it with reckless abandon?
He chose to let the opportunity pass. Perhaps he shouldn't demonstrate how fruitful their connection was just yet. "But if I am to do zis, i want to see you again soon."

Painite watched him for a long moment, then smiled and nodded her head. She would remember that, his words that she could call him for anything. She needed a minion, a partner, who would be willing to follow her into fire, and he was one of the few that seemed not only eager, but capable.
Her smile was cool and almost serene, and she seemed like she might want to kiss him for all that he said. A lot of soldiers were eager to prove themselves, but few were dedicated in the way that he seemed to be. She had to admit, she was intrigued.
More so than she had been in a while.
"Soon, yes. I don't think I can wait too long to put you to some use. Let me come up with something fun for us to do, the two of us, and we'll do a bit of learning together. I want to see what you're capable of, at the limits of your ability, and I'm sure you want to see me back up all my big words." She chuckled, but she continued to ooze all the confidence in the world, dripping from every word and every languid movement.
"But for tonight, I think I've kept you long enough. If I'm to call you, its going to be around this time of night, okay? So don't miss it." She stepped back then, finally letting go of his shoulder and nodding her head in a little show of acknowledgement and the beginnings of respect. Why shouldn't she respect a soldier who was so willing and eager?
She hoped, more than hoped, he would give her more to respect the more they came to know one another.

Bischofite couldn't help but grin. It had been years since he felt any sort of respect for another individual, let alone someone wrapped up in this preposterous tale of a war. Yet, she promised to teach him, promised to come up with a reason for them to meet again, even if it involved peril. And as he discovered thanks to her, he rather enjoyed reminders of his mortality. Perhaps he should stick around with her, and discover where this unusual friendship would lead him. After all, she certainly seemed more respectable than the stuffy blonde that corrupted him.
What would she come up with? A romp through the alleys, looking for victims? An ambush for their purported enemies? Perhaps even something more sinister? Curiosity alone urged him to stay powered up every night, if only to hear her answer.
"I won't miss it," he promised. An event like this was akin to the Berlin Wall - a dichotomy of his personality, both the yearning for connection and the abhorrence of mankind, would soon be reunited via the abolishing of this thick, prickly skin he'd built up all these years. It formed a callous over his experiences, left him abrasive and acidic in nature. However, she possessed the ability to circumvent all those security measures. It would do him some good to explore what she had to offer, even if it resulted in his death. What was the use for living, if not for sensations and experiences?
He finally respired when Painite relinquished her grasp of his shoulder. A pity, but perhaps her hand would find its way back someday, if he continued to impress her. Or... if she continued to impress him, he would return the favor. "I sink you'f already backed yourself up today," he cocked an eyebrow as he spoke, gesturing toward the tear in his uniform. Surprisingly, the starseed had taken care of the severity of the wound. "But if you mean to demonstrate your strengs' against someone else, I wouldn't miss it for ze world." And he meant that - especially if it involved burning the world down.
"I'll see you again soon, General." With a traditionally German salute, he ventured back in the direction from whence he came. Over dumpsters, atop roofs, across streets.
He had a lot to think about, and even more to look forward to.
